Abstract

Red guava (Psidium guajava L.) is a plant rich in bioactive compounds such as flavonoids and vitamin C, which possess antioxidant activity and potential as a therapy for gastric ulcers. One of the innovative dosage forms to enhance therapeutic effectiveness is the floating tablet. This study aimed to develop and optimize a floating tablet formulation from red guava juice using a combination of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and carbopol as matrix polymers for controlled drug release. Optimization was carried out using the Simplex Lattice Design (SLD) method, with evaluations including granule physical properties (compressibility) and tablet quality tests (weight uniformity, hardness, friability, floating lag time, and total floating duration). Verification of the optimum formula was performed using a one-sample t-test. The optimization results showed the optimum formula with HPMC 49,72 mg and Carbopol 10,27 mg, with a desirability value of 0,598. The physical properties test results showed a floating-lag time of 1,66±0,24 seconds, total floating duration of 9,69±0,00 hours, weight uniformity (CV) of 2,22±0,270 %, tablet hardness of 4,18±0,41 kg, and friability of 0,39±0,19%. Verification results indicated no significant difference between predicted and actual values, confirming the validity of the optimization model. It can be concluded that the combination of HPMC and Carbopol as polymers in the formulation of floating tablets of red guava juice shows potential to be further developed as an oral dosage form with a modified release system. Abstract

Strawberries (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) contain non-polar flavonoids and function as antioxidants. Nanotechnology can increase drug bioavailability, has a kinetically stable system, has the ability to penetrate deeper into the skin, lowers viscosity, and delivers the active substance to the skin surface to form a thin layer. The purpose of this study was to observe the effect of Tween 80 as a surfactant on the fruit extract nanoemulsion formulation. Nanoemulsion is made from Tween 80 surfactant, PEG 400 cosurfactant, and virgin coconut oil oil phase. The concentration of Tween 80 used by F1, F2, and F3 was 20%, 30%, and 40%. The preparations were tested for organoleptic properties, pH, viscosity, transmittance and droplet size on the formula with the smallest droplet size. The organoleptic of the resulting nanoemulsion is in the form of a clearer brown colour, a characteristicic odour, and a, and a liquid form, form, and there is no separation phase. The effect of varying the concentration of Tween 80 in the nanoemulsion formulation of strawberry fruit extract: the higher the concentration of Tween 80, the higher the pH value, % transmittance and viscosity of the preparation. The droplet sizes on F1, F2, and F3 were 5722.77 ± 1.53 nm, 3328.5 ± 0.00 nm, and 25.97 ± 0.90 nm with a polydispersity index of 16.312 ± 4.32, 9.927 ± 0.00, and 1.060 ± 0.11. Nanoemulsions of strawberry fruit extract with a concentration of 40% can produce good preparations. The antioxidant testing findings utilising the ABTS method revealed that the strawberry extract nanoparticle formulation exhibited an IC50 value of under 50, signifying exceptionally potent antioxidant activity.

Abstract

Banana kepok peel has flavonoid compounds used as antioxidants. The aim of this research is to get optimum formula of cream by combination of stearic acid and trietanolamin on good physical propertie of cream. Cream was made with stearic acid 15% minimum concentration and maximum concentration 17%, triethanolamine with minimum concentration 2% and maximum concentration 4%. The optimization of the formula was using the simplex lattice design method with parameters are pH, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion and protection. The optimum cream formula on the combination of stearic acid 16.7 grams and triethanolamine 2.3 grams. Verification results of optimal formula cream for pH got 6.1, viscosity 237.47, adhesion 12.32, power spread 18.11, protection 14.98 which showed no significant difference in the test, and has good stability.

Abstract

Rosella flower (Hibiscuss sabdariffa L.) in traditional medicine can provide protection against various diseases, such as coronary heart disease, cancer, lowering cholesterol, and liver disorders. This study aims to obtain the optimum formula of tablet of rosella flower extract with a mixture of Avicel PH 101 and lactose as a filler using wet granulation method. Rosella flower extract was obtained by maceration of rosella flower powder using 70% ethanol. The optimization formula for tablets using the Simplex Lattice Design method with Design Expert software version 10. The parameters used in the optimization are weight variation, hardness, friability and disintegration time. Verification of the optimal formula using the SPSS 18 program with the One Sample T-test method with a confidence level of 95%. The results showed that the optimal formula of tablet of rosella flower extract was the Avicel PH 101 97.82%: 2.17% lactose. The optimal formula has weight variation 1.53% ± 0.0073; hardness 5.087 kg ± 0.5135; the friability is 0.3% ± 0.041. The resulting disintegration was 22.99 minutes ± 2.218. The results of the verification of the optimal formula show that there is no significant difference between the predictions of the Simplex Lattice Design method and the results of the tests performed so that it can be said that the method is valid.

Abstract

Transdermal patch is drug delivery system that is pasted through the skin. These preparations can provide a constant drug release, easy to use, reduce the frequency of drug administration, eliminate first-pass metabolism, and reduce side effects such as gastric irritation and improve patient compliance. Blue pea (Clitoria ternatea L.) contains flavonoid compounds that have anti-inflammatory activity. This study aims to obtain the optimal comparison of HPMC and Na CMC as a polymer in the transdermal patch formula of the ethanol extract of the blue pea (Clitoria ternatea L.). Optimization was carried out using the Simplex Lattice Design method with Software Design Expert version 11. The responses used included pH tests, weight tests, thickness tests, folding tests and moisture content tests. The optimal formula obtained from the Simplex Lattice Design method was verified with the SPSS program using the one sample t-test method. The optimal formula of transdermal patch of blue pea ethanol extract was tested for acceptability to determine whether it was acceptable to the respondent or not. The optimal comparison of HPMC and Na CMC as a polymer with transdermal patch preparation of blue pea ethanol extract was 3.5%:1%, with a desirability value of 0.944.
