Abstract

The most recent development in composite resin is bioactive resin, which replaces common resin. If ignored, the tendency for shrinking in bioactive composite resin could result in microleakage. Bonding material innovations that incorporate more filler have also been created to reduce this issue and lower the possibility of microleakage. The purpose of this study is to compare the microleakage of bioactive composite resin restorations with and without filled bonding material. Thirty-two maxillary first premolar samples were split into two groups: group A containing 16 samples repaired with unfilled OptiBondTM Universal (Kerr) and group B containing 16 samples restored with filled SingleBond Universal (3 M). Utilizing ACTIVATM BioACTIVE-Restorative (Pulpdent), the samples from both groups were restored. The specimens were subjected to a 24-hour artificial saliva incubation period, succeeded by an equivalent duration of exposure to 2% methylene blue. A USB digital microscope stereo was used to measure the microleakage by observing the methylene blue 2% penetration depth. Microleakage was 8.95% in group A and 8.83% in group B, according to the results. The findings of the the parametric test using the independent t-test showed that there was no significant difference (p > 0.05) in microleakage across the bioactive composite resin restoration groups. This indicates that the microlekeage of bioactive composite resin restoration is unaffected by the presence of filler in the bonding agent.

Abstract

Effect of the addition of green mussel shell nanochitosan on the hardness of glass ionomer cement: experimental studyIntroduction: Treatment of caries can be carried out through restoration. The selection of restorative materials in dentistry highly considers hardness to withstand occlusal loads. Glass Ionomer Cement is one substance that can be utilized for restoration. By including chitosan derived from green mussel shells, GIC insufficiency is remedied. It is processed into nanochitosan since its usage is maximized when it is manufactured in nanoscale. This study aims to analyze the effect of adding green mussel shell nanochitosan on the hardness of glass ionomer cement. Methods: This study used a posttest-only control group design in a laboratory setting. Six groups are formed from the group. First, as a control group (GIC Control), GIC was made without the addition of nanochitosan. The GIC liquid was supplemented with nanochitosan at four distinct concentrations: 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, and 2%, to create the GIC group with the addition of nanochitosan. A Vickers microhardness tester was used to test the surface hardness. HV0.05 (490.3 mN) was the load employed in this study, and the indentation time was set at two seconds. The sample has an 8 mm thickness and a box-like form. Every sample was indented twice. Results: The GIC hardness test with no additives had a mean result and standard deviation of 31.94 ± 3.54. The hardness value of glass ionomer cement can be increased by nanochitosan, with the average outcomes and standard deviation as follow: Concentration: 1.5% = 95.22 ± 14.12, 1% = 91.20 ± 15.09, 2% = 117.60 ± 40.90, and 0.5% = 51.60 ± 9.34. The One-Way Anova test showed a significant difference between the concentration groups in the hardness value of glass ionomer cement, with p = 0.000, meaning that p <0.5. Conclusion: The addition of green mussel shell nanochitosan can increase the hardness of glass ionomer cement.

Abstract

The process of tooth extraction can cause injury and trigger healing stages involving soft tissue and alveolar bone. The stages of healing include hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. The use of NSAIDs for wound healing can cause side effects, so it is necessary to look for alternatives such as binahong leaf gel extract. To determine the effectiveness of 5% concentration of binahong leaf extract gel on the number of neutrophils in wound healing after tooth extraction in Wistar rats. This study is expected to be a foundation for the development of further research on alternative treatments using 5% binahong leaf gel extract in the process of healing wounds after tooth extraction. This type of research is a laboratory experiment with a post test only control group approach. The research subjects consisted of 27 jaw preparations of Wistar strain rats which were divided into three types of treatments, namely CMC-Na 1% as negative control, povidone iodine 1% as positive control, and 5% binahong leaf extract gel as treatment. Data analysis was performed using One Way ANOVA test and Post Hoc LSD test. There was a significant difference between the binahong and poviode iodine groups, as well as the binahong and CMC-Na groups with p-value <0.05. The mean difference values between the treatment group and the positive control were -18.267 (day 3), -7.200 (day 5), and -5.733 (day 7). While between the treatment group and the negative control were -11.933 (day 3), -17.533 (day 5), and -13.067 (day 7). 5% concentration of binahong (Anredera cordifolia) leaf extract gel is more effective than CMC-Na and povidone iodine to heal wounds after tooth extraction.
