Abstract

The lack of research on the impact of self-efficacy and mathematics anxiety on non-routine mathematics problem solving ability emphasizes the importance of this study. While previous studies have focused on psychological factors in the context of learning mathematics, limited attention has been paid to how these factors influence students' ability to solve non-routine mathematical problems. This study aims to fill this gap by identifying the role of self-efficacy and math anxiety in students' ability to cope with and solve non-routine math problems. The main objective of this study is to measure the impact of self-efficacy and math anxiety on students' ability to solve non-routine math problems. By exploring these psychological factors, this study aims to make a significant contribution to our understanding of the factors that influence student performance in the context of solving complex non-routine mathematical problems.

Abstract

Calculus learning requires a high level of visualization in instilling concepts optimally to students. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to look at students' innovative attitudes in developing matlab GUI-based learning media in solving calculus problems and see the influence of the ability to use matlab GUI attributes on the level of innovation of the students in developing learning media. In the early stages, the students developed media according to the given topic. In the second stage, the product was assessed in terms of its validity. The students' innovative attitudes were assessed by a team of experts using questionnaires with 5-point Likert scale. From the 16 media successfully developed, validation results were obtained with an average score of 3.83 which means "valid". Meanwhile, from the assessment of innovative attitudes, the students’ attitudes are in the category of "innovative" with an average score of 3.61. In addition, the results of the regression tests revealed that the innovative attitudes are influenced by the ability to use the matlab GUI attributes by 84.2%. The rest is influenced by other factors with similarities: . Lastly, the results of the assessment showed that the media belonged to the category of "very effective" (score 81.2%).

Abstract

This research aims to analyze problem solving abilities in terms of students' mathematical disposition in class VIII mathematics subjects at Darul Hikmah Karang Genteng Middle School, Pagutan. This type of research is qualitative with descriptive methods. The research subjects were 18 class VIII students. Data on problem solving abilities was collected through interviews with 2 students with a high mathematical disposition, 2 students with a medium mathematical disposition and 2 students with a low mathematical disposition. The result is the mathematical disposition of class VIII students at Darul Hikmah Middle School is divided into three categories, namely high, medium and low. Students with a high mathematical disposition have high problem solving abilities because they are able to fulfill the four indicators of problem solving according to Polya's theory, namely, understanding the problem, planning a solution, resolving the problem and checking again. Students with a moderate mathematical disposition have moderate problem solving abilities because they fulfill the three indicators of problem solving according to Polya's theory, namely, understanding the problem, solving the problem and checking again. And students with a low mathematical disposition have low problem solving abilities because they only fulfill two indicators of problem solving according to Polya's theory

Abstract

One of the impacts of online learning that is not optimal is learning loss. Therefore, the aims of this study, we conduct computing practicum with Maple and Matlab to improve students' ability to develop learning media based on Network Virtual Laboratory (NVL). The implications of this practicum can improve students' innovative attitudes in developing various learning media NVL-based, with still through the validation process and field tests so that quality learning media is produced  . The subject of this study consisted of 61 students who took the integrated mathematics computing course calculus  . This is a development research (R&D), where each student develops learning media then validated and field trials. We assess each media resulting from the development using questionnaires and field observations. The results showed that as many as 85% of students have been able to innovate well in developing learning media NVL-based including function limit materials, derivatives, and integrals. The results of the assessment of the expert team showed that the ability of students in developing learning media reached an average score of 3.97 which is categorized as "innovative", while the results of product trials for early-level students obtained an average of 4.07 blessings "very qualified". Furthermore, the practicum module and all media results of student development have been uploaded to the University's Learning Management System Moodle-based for use in the learning process in the future. We hope that the learning media that has been developed can be applied to calculus learning in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on students’ mathematical literacy skills and to determine whether learning styles contribute to variations in learning outcomes. This research employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a Nonequivalent Pretest–Posttest Control Group Design involving two eighth-grade classes. Data were collected through mathematical literacy tests administered as pretests and posttests, a learning-style questionnaire, and an observation sheet to evaluate the implementation of the learning approach. The data were analyzed using an independent t-test and Two-Way ANOVA. The results show that students taught using the RME approach achieved higher posttest scores, with the experimental class obtaining an average of 69.46 (SD = 6.432), compared to the control class with an average of 58.21 (SD = 8.189). The independent t-test indicated a significant difference between the two groups (t = –5.717; p = 0.000), suggesting that the RME approach is effective in improving students’ mathematical literacy skills. Furthermore, visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles were found to have no significant effect on mathematical literacy, and no interaction was observed between the learning approach and learning styles. These findings indicate that the improvement in mathematical literacy is primarily influenced by the instructional approach rather than differences in students’ learning styles.
