Abstract

Purpose: This study aims at analyzing the effects of oxytocin massage on uterine involution to postpartum subjects with anemia. Method: Method of this study is quasi experiment with 36 samples of postpartum mothers with anemia. This study was conducted in November 2017 to January 2018. Samples were taken using random sampling to obtain 18 respondents of intervention group on which oxytocic massage is given, and 18 respondents of control group on which oxytocin massage is not given. The free variables use oxytocin massage, and bound variables are uterine involution. Analysis and effects used in this study is statistical test of Mann-Whitney. Results: The height of uterine fundus on the seventh day in control group is on average of 5.61 cm and 5 cm in intervention group. It is obtained value of p<0,05 in a statistical result, so it can be concluded that there is an average significant difference between uterine involution of intervention group and control group that is started on the fourth day to the seventh day. Conclusion: According to the study result, it can be concluded that oxytocin massage accelerates uterine involution on postpartum subjects with anemia.

Abstract

Background: Postpartum depression is a common mental health disorder among women after childbirth, with high prevalence in developing countries, including Indonesia. Inadequate birth preparation may increase maternal stress and emotional disturbances during the postpartum period. This study aimed to examine the effect of a birth plan on the prevention of postpartum depression in independent midwifery practices in the Derwati Health Center area, Bandung City. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a post-test only control group design was conducted on 30 third-trimester pregnant women, divided into an experimental group (with a birth plan) and a control group (without a birth plan). Postpartum depression was measured using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Data were analyzed using the Mann– Whitney test. Results: In the experimental group, 1 respondent (6.7%) experienced postpartum depression, compared with 2 respondents (13.3%) in the control group. The Mann–Whitney test indicated a statistically significant difference between groups (p = 0.019). However, the small sample size limits the generalizability of these findings. Conclusion: Birth planning may contribute to reducing the risk of postpartum depression; however, larger and more rigorous studies are required to confirm this finding.

Abstract

Cough and cold symptoms in toddlers, as part of Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI), remain a common health problem with a high incidence rate. Common Cold Massage using Syzygium aromaticum is believed to provide relaxation and anti-inflammatory effects that may help relieve respiratory symptoms. This study aims to evaluate changes in cough and cold symptoms among toddlers following Common Cold Massage using Syzygium aromaticum at TPMB Dede Purwakarta, West Java, Indonesia, in 2026. This quasi-experimental study employed a one-group pretest-posttest design and was conducted at an independent midwifery practice (TPMB Dede Purwakarta) from February to May 2026. A total of 50 toddlers who met the inclusion criteria were recruited using total sampling. Data were collected using a cough and cold symptom observation sheet, a massage standard operating procedure checklist, and a questionnaire. Changes in symptom scores before and after the intervention were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Cough and cold symptom scores significantly decreased following Common Cold Massage using Syzygium aromaticum (p = 0.001). Moderate symptoms decreased from 82% before the intervention to 10% after the intervention, while 16% of toddlers experienced no symptoms after treatment. These findings indicate an association between the intervention and reduced symptom severity. Common Cold Massage using Syzygium aromaticum was associated with a significant reduction in cough and cold symptoms among toddlers at TPMB Dede Purwakarta in 2026. However, the absence of a control group and the use of a single study setting may limit causal inference and the generalizability of the findings.
