Abstract

Objective: This research try to identify the condition of circular migration still exist in Surabaya particularly weekly and monthly shuttle migrants and the settled migrants. The research was to examine demographic of the migrant students of State University of Surabaya Campus and their impact on the organizational culture. Furthermore, the study aimed at establishing whether economic characteristics and different demographic factors, to name but employment status of parents, wages, and region of origin of the migrants affected circular migration and joining organizations. Method: In this research, a survey was administered in the year 2023, out of which seven factors were selected under the two broad headings of economic and demographic factors. For descriptive analysis, the probit analysis was performed while for estimation of the impact of the above independent variables, the regression analysis with Stata 10 based on Linear Probability Model (LPW) was conducted. Results: The findings of the result indicated that employment in service sector and urban origin has a positive and significant effect of the participation in circular migration and joining organisations. On the other hand, employment in the industrial sector and parents’ greater distance are factors that inherently reduce this option. Therefore, the last analysis revealed that both parent wages and trade employment have a relatively little impact on organizational membership and migration, but gender does not have such an impact. Novelty:  The current work is an effort to unfold some aspects of circular migration which has not received much attention in the existing literature with the focus on the city of Surabaya. It alone focuses on how economic and demography variable, thus employment status of parents and wages, and urban/rural background, moreover influences circular migration and organisational participation of the students at the State University of Surabaya. This study uses more sophisticated method of probit analysis and Linear Probability Model (LPW) to identify the nature of these variables affecting migration behaviour with a clear differentiation between the service sector and the industrial sector, and impact of the population density of urban centres.

Abstract

Assessing preservice' higher order thinking skills (HOTS) in science and mathematics is essential. Teachers' HOTS ability is closely related to their ability to create HOTS-type science and mathematics problems. Among various types of HOTS, one is Bloomian HOTS. To facilitate the preservice teacher to create problems in those subjects, an Android app called EduAssess was developed as a Bloomian HOTS test for junior high school preservice teachers. This study aims to validate the problems in the EduAssess app through content validity. Content validity was analyzed using Aiken's V formula and expanded Gregory formula. EduAssess comprised three test sets for science and mathematics, each comprising 9 items. The instrument validated by three experts in each subject. The study results demonstrate that EduAssess, for both mathematics and science, has achieved content validity. Expert judgments confirmed the validity of EduAssess items, with Aiken's V index ranging from 0.67 to 1.00, meanwhile expanded Gregory index ranging from 0.78-1.00. The results showed that EduAssess includes analysis, evaluation, and creation. The findings highlight that the application instrument in facilitating pre-service teachers by measuring their ability to analyze, evaluate and create HOTS problems in science and mathematics subjects was proven valid and ready for data collection.

Abstract

Internet usage in the current digital era has become increasingly pervasive, with teenagers emerging as the largest demographic of users. A specific tendency among teenagers to heavily rely on gadgets (gawais) or social media is called humblebrag. The condition of humblebrag is a symptom that is worrying for families because adolescents become less concerned about their families, so it has an impact on family resilience. This study aims to describe the reorientation of rural youth toward technology and its effects on family resilience. A qualitative research method was employed in Delegan Village, Panceng District, Gresik Regency. The research subjects included teenagers exhibiting humblebrag tendencies, their parents, and community leaders, selected through purposive sampling. Data collected involved observations, in-depth interviews, and literature studies. The data were analyzed using the interactive Miles and Huberman technique. The reorientation of rural youth towards technology (gawai) started due to the influence of their peers, especially the demand for online learning due to the pandemic. Insufficient parental supervision has led to excessive gadget use. This condition is caused by dysfunction in the family. The reorientation of rural youth towards technology has a major impact on family resilience, including legality and family integrity, physically, economically, psychologically, and socio-culturally. The role of parents is essential to monitor the behavior of teenagers towards the use of gawais. In addition, fulfilling the love of both parents is the main solution to realizing changes in the child's condition.
