Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of constructivism and contextualism theory as a philosophical foundation in the application of Project Based Learning and to identify challenges and opportunities in its implementation in the current education system. The method used in this study is a literature review that examines various current literature related to PBL, constructivism theory, and contextualism, as well as its application in 21st century education. The results show that Project Based Learning based on both theories can increase student engagement, deepen their understanding through hands-on experience, and connect learning with real-life contexts. However, challenges such as limited resources, time, and resistance to change are still obstacles to its implementation. However, the opportunity to optimize PBL, especially by utilizing technology, is huge in creating learning that is more flexible and relevant to the times. Conclusion: Project Based Learning based on constructivism and contextualism is effective in increasing student engagement and understanding, even though it is constrained by resources and resistance, but technology opens up optimization opportunities.

Abstract

Local education and traditional arts, such as wayang and gamelan, are used as effective symbolic resistance tools in raising nationalist awareness. The national movement also shows the collaboration between culture and politics as a means of resistance against colonialism. Indonesian society developed resilience strategies through cultural adaptation and negotiation, where local values are maintained despite foreign influences. Abstract

This study explores the educational values embedded in the Minangkabau matrilineal kinship system and evaluates their relevance to the development of the Social Science education curriculum in Indonesia. It advocates for the integration of local wisdom as a foundational source for contextualizing Social Science instruction. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach and thematic analysis, data were gathered through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis across various Minangkabau communities. The findings reveal key values inherent in the matrilineal tradition—such as justice, responsibility, collective deliberation, trust, mutual cooperation, and the pivotal role of women as primary educators within the family. These values offer rich pedagogical insights and cultural frameworks that support the design of culturally responsive and socially grounded learning experiences. The study argues that embedding these local values within the Social Science curriculum can foster a more inclusive, relevant, and character-oriented education aligned with the principles of national identity and local heritage. Keywords: Education, Matrilineal Kinship, Minangkabau, Social Science Curriculum, Local Wisdom Integration

Abstract

Based on the conditions in the field, it shows relatively low student learning outcomes for the material of natural appearance in the IPS learning content. So the need for the use of Nature Card learning media is expected to be able to improve students' understanding of the material of natural appearance in the IPS content. The research method used is the experimental method of the pre-experimental type with the form of One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Research activities that provide an initial test (pretest) before being given treatment, after being given treatment, then provide a final test (posttest). The population in this study were grade IV students at SDN Simokerto V. Sampling was carried out by random sampling. Data collection techniques by interview, test, observation and documentation. Analysis tests can be carried out with t-tests by measuring the normality and homogeneity tests first. Based on the results of the analysis, it shows that the independent sample test table on student learning outcomes can be seen that the sig value = 0.000 <0.05. This shows that there is an influence of the use of nature card learning media on student learning outcomes in the material of natural appearance in the IPS subject.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using culturally-based illustrated textbooks in Social Studies (IPS) learning at the elementary school level. The research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development model, which includes five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The teaching material was developed by integrating elements of local culture into illustrated books, tailored to the characteristics of elementary school students who are in the concrete operational stage. A limited trial was conducted with fourth-grade students at an elementary school in Kerinci. The evaluation results indicate that the developed teaching material is effective in increasing learning interest, conceptual understanding of Social Studies, and students’ appreciation for local culture. The findings show that more than 89% of respondents agreed that the illustrated video media supports the learning process. Furthermore, 97% stated that the media was effective in explaining practicum material, and 94.1% of teachers reported that the media encouraged students' motivation to learn at home. However, 18.5% of teachers considered the media to be less optimal in instilling character values, and 23.5% noted that parental involvement still needs to be improved. In addition, this learning media was able to create a more interactive and contextual learning atmosphere. These findings suggest that the integration of local culture into teaching materials can strengthen student character while enhancing the quality of Social Studies learning at the elementary level.
