Abstract

This article examines the interpretation of the Quran in Minangkabau from the perspectives of the method of interpretation, interpretation techniques, and interpretation schools of thought. Exegesis of the Quran is one of the sciences that Urang Siak (students) must study in the surau. With a passion for the Quran, literature relating to the Quran was discovered, which is the product of scholars from Minangkabau. The literature extends from Mahmud Yunus' Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim to Hamka's Tafsir al-Azhar. This research is a library research using primary sources such as exegesis books by Minangkabau scholars, including Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim by Mahmud Yunus, Tafsir al-Azhar by Hamka, Risālat al-Qawl al-Bayān by Sulaiman al-Rasuli, Kitāb Tafsīr al-Burhān by Abdul Karim Amrullah, and Tafsir al-Azhar by Hamka. The secondary sources include exegesis books and other relevant books. The research is phenomenological and employs a scientific approach to interpretation and a historical approach. The findings indicate that textual interpretation predominates over contextual interpretation. Textual interpretation can be separated into conventional textual interpretation and contemporary textual interpretation. The traditional textual perspective interprets the Quran literally, whereas the contemporary textual perspective employs rational thought as well. The tradition of Minangkabau scholars interpreting the Quran began in the early 19th century, and the Minangkabau interpretation of the Quran cannot be isolated from the influence of Egyptian scholars' interpretations, particularly Tafsr Jallain.

Abstract

This article aims to find out the cultural functions and maintenance of the Baso Plembang Qur'an translation. By using qualitative methods and Edi Sedyawati's cultural theory approach in his work Indonesian in Culture, namely protection, development and utilization, the results and conclusions show that: first, the function of the presence of the Baso Plembang Qur'an translation is one of which can facilitate the local community to understand the contents of the Qur'an, so that it can be used as a guide to life and provide religious services for Muslims in Palembang city. Secondly, the translation of the Baso Plembang Qur'an is a physical form of culture that is evidence of the consistency of the process of maintaining cultural heritage, namely the culture owned by every region in Indonesia, even the world. Based on the theory of cultural preservation (sustainanble tourism) for the maintenance of the Baso Plembang al-Qur'an translation, the protection of the Baso Plembang al-Qur'an translation is not a form of preserving the Qur'an, but rather an effort to translate it as a form of realization of the protection of the Palembang city language culture. Its development is carried out by printing it and disseminating it free of charge to various communities. Meanwhile, utilization is a form of community concern by holding courses or publishing books that talk about Baso Plembang and the translation of the Qur'an Baso Plembang, supported by the role of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang which carries Malay civilization as its distinction.

Abstract

This study investigates the altruism found in the al-Qur'an and its relevance to philanthropic practices in the Satu Amal Indonesia (SAI) organization. This study uses the maudhu'i interpretation method of the al-Qur'an verses related to altruism. In addition to the relevant verses of the al-Qur'an, this study collected data from respondents who filled out several questions through the Google Form. The data is then analyzed in the context of altruistic values and their relevance to philanthropic practices in SAI. This study reinforces previous research that the millennial generation tends to have philanthropic behavior. The millennial generation of members of the SAI organization internalizes and applies the values of altruism contained in the al-Qur'an. In addition, this study reveals that SAI members tend to participate in philanthropic activities carried out online and use social media as a platform for promotion. Overall, this study shows that the millennial generation, particularly members of SAI, apply the value of altruism and show philanthropic behavior; the same values are taught in the Qur'an, to be precise in Q.s. al-Hasyr verse 9. The values of altruism are reflected in patterns of caring, collaborating, sustainable, and cooperative attitudes.

Abstract

This study examines the principle of asynonymy—the idea that every word in the Qur’an possesses a distinct and non-interchangeable meaning—within the hermeneutical framework of Muhammad Shahrur, a contemporary Islamic thinker known for his reformist and modernist approach to Qur’anic interpretation. The focal point of this research is Surah An-Nur verse 3, exploring how Shahrur’s semantic method offers a significantly different reading from traditional exegetical understandings. While classical interpretations often view this verse as a moral and legal prohibition against marriage between fornicators and polytheists, Shahrur reinterprets the terms zānī, zāniyah, and mushrik as having specific, non-synonymous meanings. He argues that these terms reflect broader ethical concerns such as mutual consent, human dignity, and interpersonal integrity, rather than rigid legal or theological classifications. This reinterpretation carries far-reaching implications for Islamic ethics, particularly in the realms of sexual conduct, social justice, and gender equality. By engaging in a critical dialogue between classical tradition and contemporary thought, this study demonstrates how linguistic precision can open new pathways for understanding the Qur’an in ways that are socially and ethically relevant in the modern context.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the integration of spiritual values in the Quran into modern city planning which has been dominated by a physical approach and tends to ignore the value of nature conservation, in order to create a livable city. This study uses a qualitative method based on literature review with a maudhu'i interpretation approach to analyze relevant verses of the Quran regarding natural beauty. The results of the study show that the verses of the Quran describe the beauty of nature as a reflection of the greatness of Allah SWT by emphasizing harmony and balance (mizan). Elements of natural beauty such as water, air, green open space, and sunlight have aesthetic, ecological, and spiritual values that support environmental sustainability. The concept of a good land (baldatun tayyibah) is a guide for harmonious and sustainable urban planning. This study concludes that the concept of a livable city is in line with the values of the Quran which emphasize balance, welfare, and sustainable environmental management, thus creating a livable and environmentally and socially friendly city.
