Abstract

This study aims to find the forms of strategies and functions of requests in English that are used in several films with different ratings. Another objective of this research is to find the relations between the uses of strategies and functions of requests in English. Film is a picture of everyday life and we can see the cultures of a society, one of which is the use of language. To view the request speech acts in English, then two films that use English as a communication tool with regard to the different ratings were selected. The selection of films with different ratings are intended to see differences in the use of language in movies watched by children and adolescents. Rating in the selected movie consists of G (general audiences) and PG (parental guide suggested). Rating G is a film that is for the public, which means that the film can be watched by all ages. Rating PG is a movie that can be watched by children under parental guidance. Having found the forms and strategies of request speech acts in different films with different ratings, the situations and conditions of the use and the functions of request strategies were identified. Forms of speech act strategies invoked were classified based on the theory advanced by Trosborg (1995), while to see the functions of request speech acts Tsui’s Theory (1994) was used. As for achieving the objectives of this study, the authors use several effective methods. In collecting the data, the techniques used were watching and listening to the films that have been selected. Then recorded phrases of request speech acts found in the films. Once collected, the data were analyzed by using analysis technique proposed by Spradley (1980), ie domain analysis, taxonomic, componential and cultural value. From the analysis, it was concluded that there was no difference in strategies and functions used in the two films. Both use four strategies, namely indirect request, the hearer-oriented condition, speaker-based condition, and direct request. In addition, they also illustrate the same five functions of request speech acts, request for action, request for permission, offer, invitation, and proposal. The most frequently used strategy and function are direct request and request for action respectively.

Abstract

Nowadays, many psychological cases have occurred in Indonesia and are spread out almost every day on social media such as sexual abuse, rape, and sexual harassment. Those make people aware and put a concern about their trauma-related issues. People who suffer traumatic events in long-term memory are called experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Analyzing people with PTSD in movies is one example of how to get familiarized with the symptoms and how to cure PTSD, as we know that as a literary work, movies represent human’s life. This descriptive research studied the symptoms and healing principles undergone by Angel in the movie “Redeeming Love” (2022). The data analysis was done by referring to Kring et. al’s theory (2012) to analyze the symptoms of PTSD and Schiraldi’s (2009) theory to analyze the healing principles of PTSD. The result of this research reveals that the symptoms occurring are intrusive, avoidance, negative mood changes, and arousal. Angel managed the symptoms through some healing principles, they are: manage symptoms, integrated memories, confronting avoidance, feeling safety, intact boundaries, and acceptance feeling. Saat ini, banyak kasus psikologis-traumatis yang terjadi di Indonesia yang tersebar hampir setiap hari di media sosial seperti pelecehan seksual, dan pemerkosaan. Dari peristiwa tersebut, manusia mulai waspada dan peduli tentang hal-hal yang berkaitan dengan trauma. Orang yang mengalami kejadian traumatis dalam ingatan jangka panjang disebut mengalami Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Mempelajari orang dengan PTSD dalam film adalah salah stau cara untuk mengetahui lebih dekat bagaimana gejala dan cara penyembuhannya karena kita tahu bahwa sebagai suatu bentuk karya sastra, film merepresentasikan kehidupan manusia. Penelitian deskriptif ini menganalisis gejala dan prinsip penyembuhan PTSD oleh Angel dalam film Redeeming Love (2022). Proses analisis data yang dilakukan mengacu pada teori Kring dkk (2012) tentang gejala PTSD dan teori Schiraldi (2009) tentang prinsip penyembuhan PTSD. Dari penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa gejala PTSD yang muncul pada Angel adalah intrusive, penghindaran, perubahan mood dan kognisi negatif, dan arousal. Angel menyembuhkan gejala PTSD yang dialaminya dengan beberapa prinsip penyembuhan yaitu mengelola gejala, menyatukan ingatan, menghadapi penghindaran, merasakan kemananan, batasan yang utuh, dan perasaan menerima.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis masalah gangguan kecemasan (anxiety) dan mekanisme pertahanan diri yang dialami dan dilakukan oleh Amanda, tokoh utama dalam film Saw 3. Penelitian ini mencari tahu jenis-jenis kecemasan yang dialami Amanda serta cara dia mengatasi kecemasan dengan menggunakan teori Anxiety Disorder oleh Tyson (2015). Penelitian ini menemukan tiga belas data mekanisme pertahanan, dengan mekanisme pemindahan (displacement) sebagai mekanisme yang dominan. Terdapat dua persepsi selektif, satu ingatan selektif, dua penyangkalan, tiga penghindaran, empat pemindahan, dan satu proyeksi yang ditemukan. Di samping itu, ada tiga masalah utama yang ditemukan, dan kecemasan akan penelantaran (fear of abandonment) menjadi yang paling banyak ditemukan. Kecemasan tersebut terdiri dari satu kecemasan akan intimasi (fear of intimacy), tujuh kecemasan akan penelantaran (fear of abandonment) dan lima kecemasan akan penghianatan (fear of betrayal). Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa mekanisme pertahanan yang dominan adalah pemindahan, sedangkan inti masalah yang dominan adalah kecemasan akan penelantaran. Temuan ini memberikan wawasan mendalam tentang bagaimana karakter Amanda mengatasi kecemasan dan dapat menjadi dasar untuk pemahaman psikologis dalam film. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi pada pemahaman lebih lanjut dalam bidang psikologi film dan psikoanalisis.

Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of the community service conducted at SMP Cendikia Insani on the introduction of forensic linguistics. The primary aim of this activity was to enhance students' understanding of language analysis in legal contexts, social media language ethics, and the legal consequences of unethical online behavior. Through materials covering fundamental forensic linguistics concepts, discussions on language ethics, and explanations of the Information and Electronic Transactions Law (UU ITE), students were introduced to essential principles of responsible and ethical communication. Interactive learning methods, including quizzes and case studies, were employed to encourage active student participation and deepen their understanding. The results indicate that students showed increased awareness and understanding of language ethics and the legal implications of online behavior. The high level of enthusiasm during Q&A sessions and discussions reflects the relevance and value of the content delivered. Support from Universitas Abdurachman Saleh Situbondo was crucial to the success of this initiative, reaffirming the shared commitment to holistic and relevant education for the digital generation.

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital technology requires students to develop strong digital literacy skills to navigate the internet responsibly, securely, and efficiently. However, many students still struggle with distinguishing credible information, safeguarding their personal data, and practicing proper online etiquette. This program was designed to improve the digital literacy of students at SMPN Satap 4 Panarukan through an interactive, hands-on awareness program. The approach involved a pre-test, instructional presentations, discussions, simulations, and a post-test to assess learning outcomes. The pre-test findings revealed that only 31% of the 32 students demonstrated a solid understanding of digital literacy. However, after the program, post-test results indicated a notable improvement, with 81% of students correctly answering questions and exhibiting a deeper comprehension. Moreover, student participation in discussions and simulations increased, reflecting the effectiveness of the chosen methods. Despite these positive outcomes, sustaining digital literacy remains a challenge due to limited technological access and the absence of consistent educator support. To address this, integrating digital literacy into the school curriculum and securing support from various stakeholders is crucial to ensuring students can continuously refine their digital skills.

Abstract

This study looks at how verbs are translated from English to Indonesian in the iPhone 13 Pro Max user guide, and how the translation techniques used affect how acceptable the translations are to Indonesian readers. While many studies have looked at translating technical texts, not many have focused on verbs or how they affect users’ understanding. This study fills that gap by focusing on verbs, which are important in user guides because they give instructions that need to be clear and easy to follow. The study uses a qualitative method, applying Molina and Albir’s (2002) framework to identify the translation techniques, and Nababan’s (2012) model to measure how acceptable the translations are. Five Indonesian iPhone users were asked to rate how natural and clear the translated verbs were using a three-point scale. The results show that established equivalent was the most commonly used technique and had the highest acceptability. Other techniques such as linguistic compression, compensation, transposition, and modulation were used less often but were still mostly acceptable. By connecting translation techniques to user feedback, this study offers a focused and user-centered contribution to translation studies. It also gives useful insights for translators and user guide developers who want to make their translations clearer, more culturally appropriate, and easier to understand.

Abstract

Artikel ini menyajikan hasil dari kegiatan penagbdian kepada masyarakat yang bekerja sama dengan Panti Asuhan Tunas Melati di Pokaan, Situbondo. Dalam observasi awal, didaptkan informasi bahwa sejumlah besar anak asuh di panti tersebut memiliki rasa percaya diri yang rendah. Karena merupakan generasi masa depan bangsa, mereka perlu berkembang dan matang sebagai individu yang berintegritas untuk bersaing secara global. Untuk dapat bersaing dalam komunitas global, mereka memerlukan tingkat kesadaran sosial yang lebih tinggi, keterampilan dasar, dan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris yang cukup. Setelah berkonsultasi dengan mitra program, teridentifikasi bahwa tantangan utama yang mereka hadapi berkaitan dengan (a) kurangnya rasa percaya diri pada anak asuh di Panti Asuhan Tunas Melati dan (b) keterampilan berbahasa Inggris yang tidak memadai untuk interaksi sosial. Berdasarkan tinjauan atas masalah-masalah utama ini dan solusi yang diusulkan, pendekatan dalak kegiatan ini melibatkan penguatan integritas melalui pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, yang kemudian diintegrasikan ke dalam berbagai kegiatan. Hasil dari kegiatan-kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa anak asuh di Panti Asuhan Tunas Melati mulai menunjukkan tanda-tanda kesadaran sosial dan kompetensi sosial, meskipun masih ada ruang untuk perbaikan. Demikian pula, kemampuan berbahasa Inggris mereka baru mencapai Level 1, karena kegiatan-kegiatan ini hanya sebagian dilaksanakan. Oleh karena itu, sangat penting untuk segera melaksanakan kegiatan lebih lanjut guna mencapai pencapaian keseluruhan yang diharapkan.

Abstract

Dengan banyaknya tantangan yang dimiliki dikarenakan statusnya sebagai sekolah satu atap, SMP Negeri Satap 4 Panarukan memiliki potensi untuk berkembang menjadi Sekolah Digital 3.0. Jika dilihat dari kesiapan infrastruktur dan SDMnya, sekolah ini sekarang berada di masa transisi antara Sekolah Digital 1.0 dan Sekolah Digital 2.0. Namun, permasalahan yang dimiliki adalah kurangnya literasi digital kebanyakan guru dan siswa di sana karena mereka tidak menggunakan fasilitas yang ada secara maksimal untuk proses kreatif pembelajaran. Akibatnya, ketersediaan fasilitas, potensi, dan kesempatan yang ada tidak termanfaatkan dengan maksimal dan membuat tidak adanya manejemen sekolah terintegrasi berbasis web. Untuk itu, tim pelaksana menawarkan solusi berupa pendampingan bagi SMP Negeri Satap 4 Panarukan untuk mengembangkan diri menjadi Sekolah Digital 3.0 agar kualitas pembelajaran di sekolah meningkat sehingga dapat memenuhi kebutuhan siswa akan ilmu yang semakin meningkat. Proses penerapan IPTEKS yang dilakukan berupa transfer knowledge tentang literasi digital dan sekolah digital dan penggunaan Google Workspace for Education sederhana yang diwujudkan dalam bentuk kegiatan sosialisasi, pelatihan, dan pendampingan pengembangan sistem informasi manajemen sekolah. Pelaksanaan PKM ini dilakukan dengan pendekatan transdisipliner, di mana tim pelaksana bertugas sebagai fasilitator dan mitra sebagai pelaku untuk mencapai perubahan. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah peningkatan literasi guru dan siswa dari dimensi invidual dan lingkungan (environment) dan adanya manajemen sekolah terintegrasi berbasis web sehingga mampu mengantarkan SMP Negeri Satap 4 Panarukan menjadi Sekolah Digital 3.0.

Abstract

This paper studies the translation quality of phrasal verbs generated by Auris AI in the Cartoon Scary Girl (2023) from the terms of accuracy, acceptability and readability. The aforementioned techniques are then applied to translation and the quality of a translated text measured using Nababan's framework. The researcher listed phrasal verbs systematically into a table, which was analysed according to the guidelines given in Spradley theory. As a result, despite Auris AI's claims of achieving up to 99% accuracy with high-quality transcriptions, the study found that the overall translation quality was medium with the average score is 2,24 out of 3,00 or 74,6%. It shows that Auris AI's high claim for translation accuracy is really just a kind of image appealing to the customers. The assessment incorporated three terms: accuracy, which scored 2.25 or 75%; acceptability, which also scored 2.25 or 75%; and readability, which scored 2.24 or 74.6%. These results showed that the translations often do not convey the intended meaning, lack naturalness, and have only a moderate level of clarity and comprehensibility.

Abstract

Penerapan teknologi digital dalam pendidikan dasar, khususnya untuk pelestarian lingkungan dan pengembangan literasi bahasa Inggris, masih menghadapi berbagai kendala di sekolah-sekolah Indonesia. Di SD Integral Luqman Al Hakim Situbondo, tantangan utama mencakup minimnya dokumentasi keanekaragaman hayati, terbatasnya pemanfaatan media digital yang interaktif, serta pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang jarang terkait dengan pengalaman nyata siswa. Untuk mengatasi hal ini, program ini mengimplementasikan model pembelajaran digital berbasis konteks yang mengintegrasikan inventarisasi dan dokumentasi keanekaragaman hayati, QR code, serta materi audiovisual berbahasa Inggris. Setiap spesies tanaman di lingkungan sekolah dicatat dan dikaitkan dengan QR code yang menuntun siswa maupun pengunjung ke video edukatif singkat yang diproduksi oleh siswa. Pendekatan ini meningkatkan literasi sains, bahasa, dan digital siswa, sekaligus menumbuhkan kesadaran ekologis. Selain itu, guru memperoleh pengalaman dan keterampilan dalam merancang serta melaksanakan pembelajaran berbasis proyek berbantuan teknologi. Temuan penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya strategi interdisipliner yang memanfaatkan teknologi untuk menghadirkan pengalaman belajar bermakna sekaligus menanamkan nilai-nilai keberlanjutan pada pendidikan dasar.
