Abstract

Pondok Pesantren (traditional Islamic boarding school) is one of Indonesia's most crucial pillars supporting educational needs. As the foremost institution upholding Islamic traditions in the archipelago, pesantren is expected to remain relevant amidst the advancements of the era without forsaking its deeply rooted values and traditions. Thus, this article aims to highlight the issue of technology utilization by pondok pesantren by describing the general landscape of digital media usage in several pesantren located in the Samarinda Seberang region, as well as analyzing the perceptions of pesantren administrators regarding the utilization of digital media as a means of information dissemination and as a tool to improve the overall management of pondok pesantren institution. To undertake this research, a phenomenological approach is employed to analyze data collected through observations, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation in six pondok pesantren in the Samarinda Seberang area. The findings reveal that the pondok pesantren in Samarinda Seberang are already familiar with the application of digital technology. However, this utilization remains limited to media based on images and videos. The incorporation of text-based technology is still restricted due to the lack of resources available to the pesantren.

Abstract

People Living with HIV (PLHIV) often find themselves trapped in negative emotional states, such as feelings of distress and loss of life purpose. They frequently experience shame, marginalization, and a lack of motivation due to the stigma attached to their condition. These circumstances tend to hinder the achievement of optimal subjective well-being for PLHIV. Gratitude intervention is one program that can be implemented to enhance the subjective well-being of PLHIV. This community service program aims to improve the subjective well-being of PLHIV through gratitude intervention. The method used in this activity is Participatory Action Research (PAR), involving the active participation of 30 participants, including stakeholders, the Mahakam Plus KP team, and PLHIV at every stage of the program, from building rapport, conducting a needs assessment, planning the program, implementing it, assigning tasks, and evaluating outcomes. The intervention sessions include introductions, material presentations, video viewing, and gratitude journaling. The results indicate that after participating in the gratitude intervention program, PLHIV feel more grateful and are better able to accept their condition. Therefore, this program needs to be conducted continuously to consistently support the subjective well-being of PLHIV.

Abstract

The caregiving experience of parents of children with special needs (CSN) can be challenging and can lead to significant stress and negative impacts on mental health. To address this issue, a community service activity was implemented to provide positive self-talk training to 25 parents of CSN who are members of the Indonesian Special Family Forum (FORKESI) in South Sumatra. The training was conducted online using the Zoom Meeting platform and employed the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) method. The results of the community service indicated that the average stress levels of the participants decreased after participating in the training. Additionally, participants reported feeling more grateful for the condition of their children, more accepting of their children's condition, and having more open minds. These findings suggest that positive self-talk training is an effective strategy for reducing stress in parents of children with special needs and may have broader implications for supporting caregivers in the community.

Abstract

One form of the expressions of islamic piety among female university is the use of full face veil (known as cadar) in public sphere. Among educated young Muslim women in Indonesia, particularly in university settings in East Kalimantan, the use of cadar as an expression of piety managed to gain substantial ground since 2016. The majority of people often identify the full face veil with the fundamental Islamic movement. Full-face veil users among educated young Muslims, mostly in those resided in urban settings, reject the stigma and labels of hardliners that often attached to them. Believing that such practice as covering face constitute their very understanding of Islamic tenets, this particular group of young educated Muslim women are struggling to challenge the narrative of covering face among Muslim women as indication of backwardness, radicalism and extremism. This paper, therefore, aims at discussing religious behavior among female students who use full face veil in several universities in East Kalimantan. A combination of in-depth interviews and survey technique are utilized to collect data while thematic analysis technique is applied to analyze collected data. Findings reveal that, ideologically speakings, female Muslim university students split into two factions; one that believes wearing cadar as a highly commendable action and one that believes the act to be merely a good deed. They also feel much safer once they started wearing cadar. Most of informants agree that wearing full face veil has made their private lives much safer in comparison to before they wear full face veil. Abstract

Gratitude is one of the positive emotions closely linked to an individual's psychological well-being. Individuals who perceive and approach problems or suffering positively are more capable of enduring and overcoming such challenges. HIV is a disease for which a cure has not yet been found. Therefore, an assessment of gratitude among People Living with HIV (PLHIV) is necessary to formulate more precise psychological interventions. Testing the validity and reliability of this gratitude measurement scale can significantly contribute to research, evaluation, or intervention efforts related to feelings of gratitude within the population of PLHIV. The researcher obtained responses from 232 participants, with the majority being male aged 25-49, accounting for 59.05%, and the majority having completed high school education, totaling 56.90%. After undergoing psychometric testing, including assessments of internal consistency and construct validity, it can be concluded that the gratitude scale used in this study demonstrates good validity and reliability. This scale consistently measures the same concept and has been validated in assessing gratitude through three main factors: sense of appreciation, positive feelings, and expressions of gratitude.
