Abstract

Abstract The presence of survey’s institute hold a strategic role for a politicians as well as for the political party in every political moments, but the main requirement for a survey institute to maintain the public trust in them is their credibility. This study aims to find out politicians’ opinions and factors influencing their opinions about the credibility of survey institutions in relation with electability in the election of legislative representatives in South Sulawesi Parliament in 2014. This descriptive qualitative research involved twelve politicians from different parties and four survey institution officials as informants. They were selected purposively. The data were collected through interviews and observations; and were analysed by using the interaction analysis model developed by Milles and Huberman. The data were processed through three channels of qualitative data analysis: reducing the data, presenting the data, and drawing the conclusion. The results reveal that politicians tend to trust the credibility of survey institutions and the results of electability survey released by the institutions. This is influenced by internal and external factors. Internally, the politicians are influenced by their experience and education. Externally, they are influenced by party traditions and the credibility of survey institutions. Furthermore, according to the politicians. There are five criteria for credibility of a survey institutions, including track record of the institution, track record of the institution’s leader, proffesionality of human resources, positive image, and clear addres of office. Survey institutions maintain their relationship with politicians through emotional approach and professional approach. It is expected for the survey institutions to formulate a relevant method of survey for every existing political dynamis, such as for the money politics phenomena in the recent local elections. As for the politicians them selves, they have to be more selective and based on the ideal standard in utilizing the survey institutions.Abstrak Kehadiran lembaga survei memiliki peran strategis bagi seorang politisi maupun partai politik dalam setiap momentum politik, namun kredibilitas adalah syarat utama yang harus dimiliki suatu lembaga survei agar tetap dipercaya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pendapat politisi dan faktor-faktor apa yang mempengaruhi pendapat politisi terhadap kredibilitas lembaga survei mengenai elektabilitasnya dalam Pemilihan Legislatif DPRD Sulsel 2014. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif kualitatif. Informan penelitian ini adalah 12 orang politisi dari partai yang berbeda dan4 orang pimpinan lembaga survei. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan secara purposif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara dan observasi. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis model interaksi yang dikembangkan oleh Milles dan Huberman, data yang telah didapat kemudian diolah melalui tiga jalur analisis data kualitatif yaitu: reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa politisi cenderung masih mempercayai kredibilitas lembaga survei dan hasil survei elektabilitasnya yang dirilis oleh lembaga survei. Faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi pendapat politisi dilatar belakangi oleh faktor internal dan eksternal. Secara internal pendapat politisi dipengaruhi oleh faktor pengalaman dan pendidikannya sedangkan secara eksternal dipengaruhi oleh tradisi partai dan kredibilitas lembaga survei tersebut. Politisi mengungkapkan ada lima kriteria kredibilitas suatu lembaga survei yaitu: track record lembaga survei, track record pimpinan lembaga survei, sumber daya manusia profesional, citra positif dan memiliki kantor yang jelas. Strategi yang dilakukan oleh lembaga survei dalam menjaga hubungannya dengan politisi adalah melalui pendekatan yang bersifat emosional dan pendekatan yang bersifat profesional. Diharapkan lembaga survei dapat merumuskan metodologi survei yang relevan dalam setiap dinamika politik yang ada, seperti fenomena Money Politic yang terjadi di pileg. Kepada politisi diharapkan agar selektif dan berdasarkan standar yang ideal dalam menggunakan lembaga survei.

Abstract

Muslim women who wear cadar (full face veil) can not explore all forms of non-verbal signs, especially facial expression, while involved in conversation since they can not show their face. However, they have developed strategy to overcome such obstacles. Muslim women who wear cadar create their own pattern of communication to allow them to have distinct rules on how to communicate among themselves. This paper, thus, aims at revealing the patterns of communication of Muslim women who wear cadar through utilizing ethnograpy of communication approach. Findings of this paper signifies that (1) women in this group wear cadar to signify that they are already enlightened in terms of religious obligations, (2) wearing cadar allows them to escape stigmas while involved in communication, and (3) unlike Indonesians in general, members of this group encourage eye contact while involved in conversations and rely on it to enlarge their chances of having meaningful conversations. Keywords: ethnography of communication, non-verbal language.

Abstract

The purpose of carrying out this research is to find out how the implementation of the principles of Islamic communication in the implementation of guidance and counseling and the supporting factors and inhibiting factors. This study uses a type of qualitative research with field research research methods (Field Research). The data source for this research is the subject where the data is obtained, namely the respondent. The main data sources come from interviews and observations of high school guidance and counseling teachers in East Kalimantan. Data collection techniques used are interviews, observation and documentation. The results of the research will be analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method. The results showed that the implementation of the principles of Islamic communication in Guidance and Counseling for Senior High Schools in East Kalimantan was running effectively which was proven by the delivery of guidance and counseling messages which contained the principles of counseling guidance, including: good and true words (Qaulan Sadidan and Qaulan Ma'rufa), communicative words (Qaulan Balighan), light words (Qaulan Masyura'), gentle words (Qaulan Layyina), and noble words (Qaulan Karima). The supporting factors in the implementation of counseling guidance are adequate and competent human resources, visible and invisible facilities and infrastructure, forms of cooperation between parents and the school, as well as periodic supervision. The inhibiting factors of the implementation of counseling guidance are the knowledge gap and the background of the students.

Abstract

Social media is a primary choice of teenagers today to present their existence. Social media can depict one’s life, however, it shows character restriction which can be used. Furthermore, the sociocultural conditions of teenagers also contribute to identity disclosure. Therefore, negotiation of identity can be a choice when they want to present themselves. Thus, this research was designed to describe the negotiation of national identity performed by teenagers, particularly those living in the border territories of Indonesia-Malaysia through their social media accounts. This research is a qualitative study using a method of documentation. By using documentation, the analysis was focused on the language aspect and any relevant contexts to teenagers’ national identity. Documentation was performed in a way by interpreting or construing any existing texts, for instance, a photo of a red-and-white flag uploaded on a post. The results of the study suggested that the main dynamics of their national identity emerged from symbolic communication with other people. Therefore, the characteristic of people living in a border territory also affects the negotiation of their national identity. For example, the use of the neighboring country flag is not necessarily a threat. This is associated with the socio-cultural condition of the border society which is unique and likely affecting their national identity. By understanding such uniqueness, negative perception can be avoided when perceiving the usage of the neighboring country’s symbols.

Abstract

Reformasi yang terjadi sejak tahun 1998 hingga dewasa ini telah berdampak langsung bagi bangsa Indonesia, bukan saja pada bidang politik dan ekonomi, tetapi juga pada bidang pendidikan.  Apa sebenarnya yang terjadi dalam sistem pendidikan di Indonesia. Apakah Negara kita memerlukan atau tidak memerlukan reformasi, dan/atau inovasi pendidikan dari keadaannya yang sekarang. Apakah keadaan dan perkembangan pendidikan sekarang ini bermasalah ? jika tidak bermasalah apa buktinya, dan jika ya, bagaimana alternatif jalan keluarnya serta upaya memperbaikinya.Untuk dapat menjawab tantangan global ini bangsa Indonesia harus bekerja lebih keras  karena rendahnya kualitas sumber daya manusia (SDM) yang ada. Sistem pendidikan yang ada  tampaknya belum memberikan andil yang signifikan dalam membentuk manusia Indonesia yang berkepribadian kuat dan cerdas (intelektual, emosional, spiritual, fisik) sehingga mampu menjawab tantangan jaman tidak hanya untuk kejayaan bagi diri sendiri tetapi juga bagi masyarakat dan bangsa. Oleh sebab itu, pembaharuan pendidikan tampaknya telah merupakan kebutuhan mendesak. Penulis mengajukan sebelas usulan dalam pembaharuan pendidikan yang pada intinya berkenaan dengan penentuan politik pendidikan dan kebudayaan dan pembaharuan sistem manajemen pendidikan dengan segala aspeknya untuk memberdayakan seluruh insan pendidikan dan memfungsikan lembaga pendidikan serta mendorong partisipasi masyarakat dalam upaya membangun pendidikan. Usulan ini diikuti uraian tentang kondisi prasyaratnya.

Abstract

Konflik adalah sebuah kondisi universal didalam kelompok manusia. Ia mewujud didalam pembedaan (bukan perbedaan) ekonomi, perubahan sosial, formasi kultural, perkembangan psikologis dan organisasi politik, dan kemudian menjadi nyata melalui pengelompokan kelompok-kelompok yang bertikai; siapa yang bisa memiliki atau dipersepsikan seperti demikian, serta tujuan yang tidak sesuai antara satu dengan yang lainnya. Konflik juga bersifat dinamis, dapat meningkat ataupun menurun, dan disusun oleh saling silang rumit antara sikap (mental) dan perilaku (nyata), yang kemudian dapat membangun kenyataan atau realitas sendiri yang bisa saja berbeda dari kenyataan yang sebenarnya. Selama ini, konflik seringkali dianggap terjadi akibat kegagalan komunikasi, dan dengan demikian timbul anggapan bahwa komunikasi adalah obat daripada konflik. Padahal kenyataannya tidak sesederhana itu. Penelitian ini akan mencermati mengapa komunikasi tidak dapat dianggap sebagai satu-satunya resolusi konflik yang paling efektif, dengan menggunakan pendekatan 4 paradigma komunikasi. Conflict is a universal condition in human groups. It materializes in differentiation (rather than differentiation) of economy, social change, cultural formation, psychological development and political organization, and then becomes manifest through the grouping of overlapping groups; who can have or be perceived as such, as well as incompatible goals between one and the other. Conflict is also dynamic in nature, can increase or decrease, and is composed of a complicated interplay between (mental) attitudes and (real) behavior, which can then construct its own reality or reality that can be different from the actual reality. So far, conflict has often been thought to occur as a result of communication failure, and thus the presumption arises that communication is the panacea rather than conflict. Though the reality is not that simple. This article will highlight why communication should not be considered the only most effective conflict resolution, using the approach of the 4 communication paradigms.

Abstract

Generally, da'wah is an activity of reciting the Koran or lectures carried out by ustaz or ustazah and religious leaders. As time goes by, various types of media have emerged to make it easier to convey da'wah messages. This can enrich existing da'wah strategies, one of which is through literary media in the form of novels. Based on this, the researcher tried to study a novel entitled Bumi Cinta by Habiburrahman El Shirazy. The aim is to find out how the da'wah message is contained in the novel Bumi Cinta, with three classifications of Islamic da'wah material contained in Surah Al-Fatihah, including the Da'wah Message of Akidah, Akhlak and Sharia. Then, from the da'wah messages, the recipients of the da'wah as told in the novel Bumi Cinta are aligned. This research uses a qualitative approach. Then the object or data obtained is in the form of a novel narrative text. Data collection techniques use library research and documentation. The data obtained was analyzed using Ferdinand De Saussure's semiotic theory. This theory has a sign system consisting of signifiers (signifier) and sign (signified), to explore the meaning contained in the narrative text or object being studied.
