Abstract

The availability of quality forage in the dry season is an obstacle to increase livesctok productivity.  The highest livestock production cost is feed, 60-70% of the total livestock business needs, so feed is the main component for animal husbandry development.   Indigofera zollingeriana is a legume plant that can grow well for a long time as a Forage (HMT), adapts very well to diverse environmental conditions, and is tolerant to long dry climates.  Another advantage of this plant is the high nutrient content, which is 35% protein, 15% crude fiber, 86% digestibility and very low anti-nutrient content.  The advantages of this plant need to be shared with the community, especially farmers.  Belabori Prosperous Village-owned business entity, is one of the BUMDES that has developed Indigofera since 2018, but the community has not utilized this plant optimally.  Belabori Village is an area with a significant number of cattle including cattle, goats and poultry.  To disseminate the use of Indigofera, Sekolah Petani Desa program is conducted, a learning house with lecturers, students, farmers, breeders and Bumdes to process Indigofera into nutritious feed and to be used in the dry season.  The purpose of ?Sekolah Petani Desa? activities is the transfer of technology of research results in the laboratory to the field.  SPD activities become a direct application media for campus research results to the field of farmers and ranchers and provide invaluable experience for researchers, ranchers and students who are directly involved in community service activities that are integrated with the field work practices of animal husbandry students.  This activity was successfully carried out and achieved the output target, namely breeders can process Indigofera into green concentrate flour, pellets, UMB, hay and silage.  Indigofera is the main source of protein for cattle and goats in the village of Belabori and is used by Bumdes to be a source of income through green concentrate businesses.

Abstract

Coastal areas are potential land for the cultivation of feed crops to support the availability of livestock forage. Indigofera zollingerianaplants have a high tolerance to salinity stress. Gamma irradiation technology, which can change the genetic structure of plants, is expected to increase plant tolerance. This study was conducted to determine the morphological response of Indigofera zollingeriana Mutant, two plants irradiated with gamma rays in coastal areas. This study used a complete randomized design (CRD) method with ten treatments and six replications. The treatments consisted of P0 (control/without irradiation); P1 (Indigofera M2 50 Gy); P2 (Indigofera M2 100 Gy); P3 (Indigofera M2 150 Gy); P4 (Indigofera M2 200 Gy); P5 (without irradiation + salinity stress); P6 (Indigofera M2 50 Gy + salinity stress); P7 (Indigofera M2 100 Gy + salinity stress); P8 (Indigofera M2 150 Gy + salinity stress); and P9 (Indigofera M2 200 Gy + salinity stress). The analysis of variance showed that different doses of gamma irradiation and salinity stress had a significant effect (P<0.05) on stem diameter and number of flowers of Indigofera zollingeriana plants. Irradiation dose of 150 Gy with salinity stress during seedling can grow higher leaves when planted in coastal areas. Keywords: Salinity Stress, Indigofera zollingeriana, Gamma Irradiation

Abstract

Coastal areas have great potential to be developed. One of the good sectors developed in coastal areas is livestock, but the obstacle to the development of livestock in coastal areas is saline land conditions that can affect the process of plant growth. Indigofera zollingeriana is a plant that is tolerant to various types of environmental stress, one of which is salinity stress. Induced mutation is currently the most effective breeding method for plant genetic improvement. One example of induced mutation treatment is gamma irradiation. This study used a complete randomized design method with ten treatments and six replicates. The treatments consisted of P0 (Control/Without irradiation); P1 (50 Gy gamma irradiation); P2 (100 Gy gamma irradiation); P3 (150 Gy gamma irradiation); P4 (200 Gy gamma irradiation); P5 (Irradiation was given salinity stress); P6 (50 Gy gamma irradiation and salinity stress); P7 (100 Gy gamma irradiation and salinity stress); P8 (150 Gy gamma irradiation and salinity stress); and P9 (200 Gy gamma irradiation and salinity stress). The results of the analysis of variance showed that the treatment of gamma irradiation dose and salinity stress had a significant effect (P<0.05) on the total weight, leaf weight, and leaf production of Indigofera but no significant effect (P>0.05) on stem weight and production. Abstract

The utilization of saline land for Indigofera zollingeriana cultivation is an opportunity to develop livestock in coastal areas. Salinity in coastal areas influences plant growth, particularly in the initial growth stages, because high salinity levels inhibit the uptake of both water and nutrients from the roots so that the plants will dry out. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effects of various doses of gamma irradiation and NaCl stress on the early growth of Indigofera zollingeriana Mutant-2 seeds via a complete randomized design (CRD) with a 2x5 factorial pattern with 3 replications. The factors were salinity stress and irradiation dose. The first factor was salinity stress, which consisted of 0 mM NaCl and 40 mM NaCl. Second, the irradiation doses were 0 Gy, 50 Gy, 100 Gy, 150 Gy, and 200 Gy. The research results were analysed via analysis of variance (ANOVA), and significantly different treatments were evaluated via the DMRT test via the SAS Studio program. There was a significant difference in the effects of irradiation dose and NaCl stress on the germination rate, germination rate, mortality rate, radicle length, and plumula length, but the results were not significant for the seedling height, stem diameter, root length, number of cotyledons, or number of leaves. The DMRT results revealed that Indigofera treated with irradiation at a dose of 200 Gy had better germination rates, mortality rates, radicle rates, and plumula rates under both salinity stress conditions and gamma ray doses.
