Abstract

Ptyas korros or Indo-China Rat Snake is one of the snakes that are commonly hunted in Indonesia. This study aimed to identify Spirometra sp. on P. korros in Sidoarjo. A total of 18 snakes were collected within 3 months. Identification of Spirometra sp. was done using a native method, Semichen Acetic Carmine, and HE staining. As a results, 8 (44.4%) of 18 samples showed positive infection with Spirometra sp. The results of this study indicate the presence of spargana in P. korros in Sidoarjo and no adult Spirometra sp. was found.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to explore the hematological value of leopard gecko (Eublepharis macularius). Total of 20 samples were examined, its consists of 10 males and 10 females, blood samples were taken from vena ventral abdominal and deposited into EDTA tubes, fresh blood leaves little to make blood smear, total blood examination conducted with automatic hematological analyzer ABX MICROS 60 and for total leukocyte and differential leukocyte count used standard manual method. The mean result of hematological value of leopard gecko in this research are WBC (x103/mm3) 7,12 male, 8,09 female, Lymphocyte (%) 46,2 male, 38,4 female, Monocyte (%) 17 male, 17,3 female, Heterophil (%) 18,3 male, 21,8 female, Eosinophil (%) 10,8 male, 13,9 female, Basofil (%) 7,7 male, 8,6 female, RBC (106/mm3) 0,64 male, 0,65 female, HGB (g/dl) 8,95 male, 9,46 female, Hematocrit (%) 10,55 male and 9,26 female. In all parameters showed that hematology value of male gecko leopard was lower than female gecko except on two parameters which are hematocrit and lymphocyte which showed male gecko has the higher value than females, but the hematology value difference of both sexes leopard gecko is not significant except in heterophil value.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of aflatoxin content of 9.58 ppb in feed on gastrointestinal biometrics and weight gain of laying hens in the early growth period. Thirty-six day old chicks (DOC) were used in this study and were divided into two groups P0 and P1. P0 (control group) was fed with 100% basal diet and P1 (treatment group) was fed a diet with a composition of 80% basal feed + 20% aflatoxin-containing feed. After the DOC was adapted, the first feeding containing aflatoxin was given from the 20th day to the 60th day. Data collection was carried out three times, namely the 20th, 40th, and 60th days. At the end of each period, the chickens would be euthanized to collect data on the weight and length of the digestive tract and body weight. Weight gain with time increased, but had no significant effect (p>0.05) between the control and treatment groups. Body weight continues to increase because the body's homeresis function is still running well. Observations on gastrointestinal biometrics showed significant differences (p<0.05) in oesophagus weight, proventriculus weight, ventriculus weight, jejunum weight, ileum weight and length, and cecum weight because aflatoxins have a direct effect on the digestive tract they pass. The conclusion of this study was that the provision of 20% aflatoxin-containing feed did not affect weight gain but had shown an effect on the biometrics of several gastrointestinal tracts.
