Abstract

Introduction: The percentage of the elderly population in Bali increased to 12.47% in 2020, leading to heightened risks and fear of falling with age. One measure to assess fear of falling is the ABC-6 Scale, which gauges self-confidence in maintaining body balance. A well-measured instrument requires good validity and reliability. Testing the validity and reliability of the questionnaire is essential to demonstrate its usefulness in measuring fear of falling and screening fall risks in the future. Methods: This study employed a descriptive survey method to assess content validity using expert evaluation and a cross-sectional design with a purposive sampling technique involving 49 subjects. Validity testing utilized Pearson product-moment correlation for construct validity and Content Validity Index for content validity assessment. Reliability testing employed Cronbach's alpha to assess internal consistency. Results: The analysis revealed good construct validity values (0.509-0.823) and excellent content validity index scores (S-CVI/Ave=0.98). Reliability analysis using Cronbach's alpha demonstrated good reliability (0.775). Conclusion: The modified Indonesian version of the ABC-6 Scale is valid and reliable for screening and evaluating fear of falling among older people. Abstract

Introduction: Religious rituals in Balinese Hinduism involve numerous ceremonies with offerings called banten. An essential stage in making Banten is mejejaitan, where artisans use staplers instead of bamboo skewers in crafting. However, prolonged use of staplers and highly repetitive behaviour can increase the risk of de Quervain's tenosynovitis. This study aims to determine the relationship between the duration of mejejaitan and the risk of developing de Quervain's tenosynovitis among Banten artisans in Gianyar Regency. Methods: This observational study used a cross-sectional approach, with purposive sampling yielding 88 subjects. The independent variable was the duration of mejejaitan, while the dependent variable was de Quervain's tenosynovitis. Data collection was conducted through direct interviews to gather information about the duration of mejejaitan. Additionally, specific tests such as the WHAT test were performed to assess the risk of de Quervain's tenosynovitis, and pain intensity was measured using the NRS. Results: Data analysis using the Spearman rho test yielded a p-value of 0.018, indicating a relationship between the duration of mejejaitan and the risk of de Quervain's tenosynovitis. The correlation coefficient r of 0.251 showed a positive correlation, suggesting a direct relationship with a low correlation strength. Conclusion: The longer the duration of mejejaitan without rest, the higher the risk of developing de Quervain's tenosynovitis. Keywords: de Quervain's tenosynovitis, mejejaitan, Banten artisans

Abstract

Introduction: Typing activities at work involving repetitive movements with static body posture, if not adequately addressed, can lead to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). Data from the National Health Interview Study (NHIS) shows that the incidence rate of CTS in the general population is 2.6 million. Bank employees are one of the professions prone to CTS due to their computer typing activities. This study aims to determine the relationship between the duration of work and body position during typing and the occurrence of CTS among computer users at BNI in Denpasar City. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional study design and purposive sampling technique for subject recruitment. The total sample size in this study was 86 BNI employees who use computers in Denpasar City. Data collection was conducted through interviews to determine the duration of work and specific examinations such as Phalen’s and Tinel’s tests, and researchers measured the body position of employees during typing using the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA). Results: The chi-square test analysis yielded a p-value of 0.039, indicating a relationship between the duration of work and the occurrence of CTS, and a p-value of 0.002, indicating a relationship between body position during typing and CTS. Conclusion: The study concludes that there is a relationship between the duration of work and body position during typing and the occurrence of CTS among computer users at BNI in Denpasar City. Providing ergonomic training and education by the institution, managing work time and modifying workstations, followed by light stretching by the subjects, can reduce the risk and severity of CTS occurrences.
