Abstract

In increasing fish farming production, it is very dependent on the availability of fish feed which has recently been expensive. To overcome this, was necessary to find alternative feeds that have nutritional value according to the needs of cultivated organisms. Maggot (Hermetia illucens Linn.) is a black soldier fly larvae that has a chewy texture, high protein and has the ability to secrete natural enzymes that help improve the digestive system of fish. . The aimed of this research was to find out the amount of maggot (H. illucens Linn.) production in several cultivation media with different treatments. The  results of the study found that it took up to 2 weeks to produce maggot that had ready to be used as feed. Maggot had the potential to be cultivated as an alternative to fish feed.

Abstract

Understanding the dynamics of surface currents in the Bangka Strait is crucial for various maritime and coastal activities. This strait connects Likupang, a super-priority tourism destination, with other islands in North Sulawesi. These activities include navigation safety, inter-island transportation, fisheries, search and rescue operations, and marine pollution control. This study investigated the characteristics of currents in the strait using a hydrodynamic model called Delft3D. The result revealed that the currents exhibit a tidal pattern, with dominant westward flow during floods and eastward flow during ebb. Maximum sea current velocity during spring tide in the second transition monsoon occurred in September 2022, with an average speed of 102.67 cm/s. Current ellipse analysis confirmed the tidal type of the currents.

Abstract

The effects of Shochu distillery by-products (SDBP) were investigated by supplementary different level of SDBP to the basal diets for Japanese Common carp. To clarify the growth performances, energy budget equation was applied in this study. The feeding trial was conducted for 20 days by feeding the test diets containing SDBP at 0, 2,1 and 4.2%, respectively. Based on the energy budget equation, the digestible energy (DE) requirements for the maximum growth ranged from 49.0 – 55.8 kcal/ind/d. The 4.2% SDBP diet yielded 6.5% higher growth energy but 7.1% lesser metabolic energy than the control. The energy budget on 4.2% SDBP diet accounted for 10.6% of feces (2.42 kcal/ind/d), 4.2% of non-fecal (0.93 kcal/ind/d), 39.4% of metabolic loss (9.03 kcal/ind/d) and 45.9% of growth (10.5 kcal/ind/d), respectively. Correspond to the control, non-fecal and metabolic energies were lower, in 4.2% SDBP resulting in the higher product energy. The above results indicate that SDBP can be utilized as a supplement ingredient for the growth promotion of carp feed, since it could provide a superior property for growth energy of fish by reduced energy of metabolic loss and non-fecal losses. Abstract

North Sulawesi Province, directly bordering the Pacific Ocean, is located in an area with the highest level of tropical cyclone (TC) activity in the world. As a result, the province is vulnerable to the impacts caused by cyclones, including storm surges. The increase in water levels due to this event has the potential to cause coastal flooding. Previous studies in Manado have identified that sea level rise can be detected through residual water level (RWL), making studying the characteristics of RWL in North Sulawesi important. This research focuses on Manado and Melonguane, allowing for a comparison of characteristics. The data used includes tropical cyclone data from the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and tidal data from the Geospatial Information Agency. The Unified Tidal Analysis and Prediction (UTide) method is used to identify RWL. The analysis was carried out by using a t-test to compare data at the two locations. The results showed that RWL at those locations had significant differences with Melonguane having the higher value between them. Generally, the increase in RWL in Melonguane occurs shortly after the cyclone period, while the RWL in Manado maximum increases 86 hours after TC's first occurrence. Abstract

Oceanographic factors such as Sea Surface Temperature (SST) and Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) during El Nino can make fishing easier. The research aims to analyze the variability of SST and Chl-a in the Maluku Sea during El Nino 2023 and determine the influence of El Nino on upwelling in the Maluku Sea. The method used uses SST from Remote Sensing data which has been validated using observation and Chl-a data. Rainfall data is used to ascertain the climatic conditions of the North and South Maluku Sea regions. Validation of remote sensing SST data with observations has a correlation coefficient of 0.677. The research results show that in the West Monsoon of North Maluku, the SST was 29.1ºC and Chl-a 0.24 mg/m3 due to the influence of La Nina 2022 as shown by the rainfall in February of 199 mm. During the transition monsoon, the SST in the North Maluku Sea is 29.3 ºC higher than the South 29.8ºC. The East Monsoon SST in the Southern Maluku Sea experiences a decrease in temperature reaching 27.9 ºC and Chl-a of 075 mg/m3. Transition Monsoon II SST is 30ºC and Chl-a 0.21 mg/m3. The research concludes that the El Nino phenomenon that will occur in 2023 will affect upwelling in the Maluku Sea by 84%. There is a mismatch between the Chl-a peak in August SST and the SPL peak that occurred in September. When El Nino 2023 occurs, Chl-a is higher in the southern part of the Maluku Sea compared to the northern part, as is the SST. Keywords: SST, Chl-a, East monsoon, El Nino, Upwelling Abstrak Mengetahui faktor oseanografi seperti Suhu Permukaan Laut (SPL) dan Klorofil-a (Chl-a) saat El Nino dapat mempermudah penangkapan ikan.
