Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of redesigning the hull of a small purse seine ship on its motion resistance. The research was carried out using a small purse seine ship prototype in Manado by changing the length-breath-depth ratio based on the main dimensions of the ship, resulting in three new hull designs coded K-0 (prototype), K-1, K-2, and K- 3. Maxsurf modeler and Maxsurf resistance were used to run a simulation set of three loading conditions (light, half, full) and speed (low, medium, high). The research results show that changes in ship hull design affect the resistance and thrust of the ship. There is a difference in resistance between the ship with the redesigned hull and the prototype, where the smallest difference is shown by K-3. In addition to changes in hull design, changes in ship loading conditions, Froude number, and ship speed lead to increases in ship resistance and thrust. Based on the average allowance (sea margin or service margin) in shipping lanes, the need for propulsion power and the number of propulsion power vessels K-0 (prototype) and K-3 are still better than K-1 and K-2. Abstract

The southern coastal region of Manado Bay is experiencing intensive development pressure alongside increasing tourism activities and marine space utilization. These conditions have the potential to cause degradation of shallow-water benthic habitats, which play a vital ecological role. This study aims to map and analyze the spatio-temporal changes of shallow-water benthic habitats in southern Manado Bay using Sentinel-2A satellite imagery as the primary data source. Analysis was conducted using Sentinel-2A imagery from the 2017-2023 period through stages of image pre-processing, water column correction, and unsupervised classification using the K-means algorithm. Evaluation of the classification results was performed using an error matrix to obtain overall accuracy and Kappa coefficient values. The results indicate that the overall accuracy ranged from 72-78% with Kappa coefficients between 0.60-0.71. Spatio-temporal analysis indicates a significant decline in live coral cover from 41.09% to 28.17% during the 2017-2023 period, accompanied by an increase in dead coral area and sand substrates. These findings demonstrate that Sentinel-2A imagery can be effectively utilized for monitoring the dynamics of shallow-water benthic habitats at a regional scale and has the potential to support sustainable coastal zone planning and management. Abstract

Hull line determines the ship motions in adapting to the ocean conditions, and therefore, ships require a flexibly appropriate hull line to have a highly safe sailing trip.   This study aims to determine influence of small purse-seiner hull line redesign on the ship's motion, namely rolling, heaving, and pitching which can be observed as a Response Amplitude Operator (RAO) due to the sea conditions. The hull lines were redesigned by manipulating the ship's breadth (B) and depth (D) based on the Manado prototype, resulting in three new hull forms (ships B, C, D) and one prototype control (ship A). Data input and simulation used the Maxsurf Modeler Advanced and Maxsurf Motions Advanced applications to analyze motion responses at different wave angles (head sea 180°, bow quartering sea 135°, and beam sea 90°) under average load and service speed conditions. The findings demonstrated that each ship had a unique RAO for heave, roll, and pitch motion. In heave and pitch motion, ship D had a best RAO, but in roll motion, ship C had the best RAO. The rolling and pitching motions of all ships have met the minimum standard of the general operability limiting criteria for ships at all conditions, while the rolling motion at the wave coming of 90° was met at the slight and moderate conditions.
