Abstract

Abstract

Pregnancy is a critical period that determines the quality of human resources in the future. The growth and development of children are largely influenced by the condition of the fetus in the womb. The fetus's growth can be influenced by the mother's nutritional status before and during pregnancy. A healthy and normal weight baby is likely to be born to a mother with a normal nutritional status before and during pregnancy. Therefore, strategic efforts are needed during the pre-pregnancy and pregnancy period to create a healthy and resilient generation. The mother's nutritional status before pregnancy can be determined by her body mass index (BMI), while the nutritional status during pregnancy can be evaluated based on weight gain, upper arm circumference, and hemoglobin levels. The purpose of this study is to describe the mother's BMI before pregnancy, weight gain, upper arm circumference, and hemoglobin levels during pregnancy, and birth weight at the Cilandak District Health Center. This research is descriptive and based on secondary data from the Cilandak District Health Center, with a cross-sectional research design. The results show that pregnant women with very low and low BMI before pregnancy had a higher proportion of Low Birth Weight (LBW) infants (60%). Pregnant women who did not gain weight up to the standard during pregnancy also had a higher proportion of LBW infants (55.8%). Pregnant women with chronic lack of energy based on upper arm circumference measurements had a higher proportion of LBW infants (71.4%). Additionally, pregnant women with non-anemic hemoglobin levels also had a higher proportion of LBW infants (54.3%). Overall, this study highlights the importance of maintaining a healthy nutritional status before and during pregnancy to promote the birth of healthy and normal weight babies. Further research may be needed to investigate the factors that affect maternal nutritional status during pregnancy and identify interventions that can be implemented to improve maternal and fetal health outcomes. Keywords: Body Mass Index (BMI), Upper Arm Circumference, Hemoglobin Level, Baby Birth Weight

Abstract

Adolescent nutrition remains a significant issue in Indonesia. This study aims to describe the nutritional status, taste perception, energy, and macronutrient content of canteen food among students at SMAN 104 East Jakarta. Using a descriptive cross-sectional design, 85 samples were selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected via anthropometric measurements, taste perception questionnaires, and canteen food nutrient analysis. Chi-Square analysis was used to test the relationship between characteristics and taste perception. Results showed 78.8% of respondents had good nutritional status, with significant differences between genders and age groups. Taste perception was generally good (97.6%), varying by age but not significantly by gender. Macronutrient analysis revealed varying content, with some menus exceeding 30% of daily nutritional needs for lunch. Significant relationships were found between nutritional status and age (p=0.047) and gender (p=0.009). In conclusion, while most students have good nutritional status and taste perception, there is room for improvement in macronutrient balance in canteen menus. Keywords: nutritional status, taste perception, adolescents

Abstract

Abstract

Background of the problem: Adolescents with thalassemia often experience dental health problems due to disease complications and treatment. Prevention can be achieved by improving nutritional status and public education about thalassemia. The program activities that can be a solution to these problems are through education. Objectives: This service aims to improve dental health, understanding of the use of dentures, and nutritional status among adolescents with Beta Thalassemia Major in DKI Jakarta. Methods: The methods used in this activity include socialization and counseling on dental health and thalassemia disease, which were attended by 40 adolescents from the Indonesian Thalassemia Foundation in DKI Jakarta. The stages of the activity include the distribution of activity information, the completion of a pre-test questionnaire, presentation of the material, examination, and evaluation session. Results: The post-test results of the community service activity revealed that 57.5% of participants fell into the high knowledge category, 37.5% into the moderate category, and 5.0% into the low category. Conclusion: This indicates that after this activity, there was an increase in understanding regarding efforts to improve nutritional health, the use of dentures, and the nutritional status of adolescents with beta thalassemia. Recommendations or follow-up: The intervention in the form of socialization and counseling has successfully increased the knowledge of nutritional health, dentures, and the nutritional status of adolescents with beta-thalassemia.
