Abstract

Schizophrenia patients often experience significant challenges in daily functioning, leading to dependence on caregivers and imposing a substantial burden on families. This literature review aims to examine the effectiveness of telenursing-based psychoeducation in improving family knowledge and reducing family burden in the care of schizophrenia patients. A comprehensive literature review was conducted, analyzing 15 articles published between August 2014 and August 2024. Articles were sourced from Google Scholar and PubMed for English-language studies, and Google Scholar for Indonesian-language studies. The PRISMA framework and PICO methodology guided the selection and analysis of relevant studies. The findings from the 15 selected articles demonstrate that telenursing-based psychoeducation effectively reduces family burden and enhances caregivers' knowledge in managing schizophrenia patients. Various approaches, including telenursing interventions, technology-based applications, and traditional psychoeducation methods, provide significant benefits and can be integrated into mental health care practices. The successful implementation of telenursing-based psychoeducation requires active commitment, resilience, and collaboration from both nurses and family members involved in the care of schizophrenia patients.

Abstract

Introduction: Despite the availability of pharmacological treatments, poor adherence and low patient awareness remain barriers to effective long-term management. Non-pharmacological interventions such as acupressure and progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) have demonstrated consistent benefits, yet broader implementation is limited by inadequate education, practical guidance, and patient engagement. Mobile health (mHealth) technologies offer opportunities for real-time monitoring and self-management support, but integrating complementary therapies into digital platforms remains underexplored. It aims to synthesize current evidence on the effectiveness of acupressure, progressive muscle relaxation (PMR), and mobile health (mHealth) interventions in enhancing self-management among individuals with hypertension. Methods: A narrative review with narrative synthesis was conducted in accordance with PRISMA 2020 and the PICOS framework. Searches were performed in PubMed, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar using predefined keywords. No artificial intelligence (AI)–based tools were employed. Fifteen eligible studies were identified and thematically analyzed. The review included 15 eligible studies that examined non-pharmacological and digital interventions for hypertension management. Results: Specifically, three studies on acupressure explicitly reported significant reductions in systolic and diastolic blood pressure, while eight studies on progressive muscle relaxation (PMR), including multimodal formats combined with breathing exercises, music, or audiovisual support, consistently demonstrated improvements in blood pressure, stress, and sleep quality. In addition, three studies on mobile health (mHealth) interventions reported enhanced adherence, patient engagement, and self-monitoring behaviors. One additional study investigated acupuncture (needle-based stimulation rather than manual acupressure); this study was retained for completeness but not synthesized with the primary findings due to differences in intervention characteristics. Conclusion: Overall, although strong evidence supports the effectiveness of acupressure, PMR, and mHealth individually, none of the included studies integrated acupressure and PMR within a single mHealth platform, underscoring a critical gap in digital hypertension management research.

Abstract

Introduction: Learning in the community presents different challenges than learning in a clinical setting. However, studies on student nurses' experience in the community have not been discussed comprehensively. This study aimed to explored nursing students’ experiences in a community setting using the five stages of the nursing process   Method: This study used a qualitative design with the Photovoice approach. A total of 14 students were involved in the study. Data was collected by taking photos and small group discussions for the narrative photo with the SHOWED approach. Photos and narration are the primary data and are analyzed thematically.   Result: A total of approximately eighteen photos have been included. At the assessment phase, the student requires an adaptation process and strategic anticipation, as the practice was conducted directly in the participants’ community. Formulating nursing diagnosis is done through teamwork and group discussion with an approach based on evidence and theory, and asking for guidance from the lecturer as a facilitator for learning. The development of nursing intervention was done with active participation from society, presenting the intervention plan to the community, community meetings, and ensuring the legality of the plan's activities. Implementation in the nursing community is implemented collaboratively between students and the community following the agreed-upon plan. Evaluating nursing practice is done with collaborative reflection of students, discussion together, and related plans, actions, and carrying on independently in public.   Conclusion: This study finds that community-based nursing practice requires student adaptation, strategic planning, and evidence-based teamwork.   Keywords: Clinical nursing education, community health nursing, photovoice, nursing students, nursing care plan

Abstract

Background: A family with a child with special needs experiences a struggle to provide care and quality of life. However, empirical evidence on the relationship between resilience and caregiver burden in the long-term care of children with developmental disabilities (DDC) in low- and middle-income countries remains limited, with a family nursing perspective in Indonesia, especially in Bali. This study aimed to determine the relationship between caregiver burden and resilience in long-term care of children with developmental disabilities. Methods: This study was reported in accordance with the STROBE guidelines. A cross-sectional study was conducted online using network sampling DDC in Denpasar City. The questionnaires were the Burden Scale for Family Caregivers (BSFC) to measure the family burden as the independent variable and the Resilience Scale for Adults (RSA) used to measure the resilience of the caregiver as the dependent variable. Spearman’s rank correlation was used for data analysis. Results: As many as 102 parents or siblings of DDC joined the research online. Data showed most caregivers were mothers (67,6%), with more than one child (65,7%), and with various types of DDC. A moderate negative correlation was observed between caregiver burden and resilience (r = −0.294, p < 0.005). The higher burden experienced by siblings (mean= 13.5), when fathers have the highest resilience (mean= 99.83), as they felt less burden (mean= 8.93). Conclusion: The greater burden experienced by the family implied a lower capacity to express resilience. Coping skill training could be developed as a response to the burden to build better family coping and boost resilience.

Abstract

Background: Digital transformation in healthcare has promoted the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) as the standard for nursing documentation. Supervision is a key managerial strategy influencing its successful implementation among practicing nurses. However, empirical evidence on how supervision components affect the quality of electronic nursing documentation in low- and middle-income countries remains limited. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the strategic role of nursing supervision in strengthening EMR documentation. Methods: This analytical cross-sectional study examined the relationship between the role of supervision and the strengthening of electronic medical records. The sample included 352 practicing nurses selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a validated and reliable structured questionnaire (Cronbach’s alpha > 0.60). Analysis was conducted using Spearman’s rank correlation and binary logistic regression to assess the relationship and influence of supervision on documentation quality. Results: The results showed that the supervision variable (planning, coordination, control, monitoring, and feedback) was significantly related to electronic medical record documentation (p < 0.001), with feedback being the most dominant factor (Exp(B)=233.049; 95% CI: 15,606–3480.287). Conclusion: Nursing supervision plays a strategic role in strengthening the implementation of Electronic Medical Record documentation. From a managerial and policy perspective, these findings confirm that strengthening the supervision system, primarily through standardized and continuous feedback mechanisms, should be a priority for nursing leaders and hospital management.
