Abstract

Low coping strategies and health worker factors reduce the ability to survive from flood. This can lead to low mother’s resilience. This study aims to analyze the correlation between health worker factors and coping strategy against mother’s resilience in managing the impact of annual flood disasters during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research used correlational analytic method with cross sectional approach. This study used a sample of 121 mothers in Sukorejo Village, Karangbinangun District, Lamongan Regency who were affected by flood. The research instrument used a questionnaire of support, facilities, and motivation health workers;copingstrategy; and mother’s resilience. Spearman Rho Analysis correlation test was used as analytic approach with a significance of <0.05. The data obtained analyzed using a Spearman Rho correlation test. There was a correlation between health worker factors and mother’s resilience (p=0.003: r=0.264). In addition, there was a correlation between coping strategies and mother’s resilience (p=0.000: r=0.369). The higher health workers factor and mother’s coping strategies level, the higher mother’s resilience managing the flood impact. Capacity building for health workers is needed to be able to educate mothers about flood impact management, so that ultimately improve their coping strategies.

Abstract

Introduction: Fishermen often face extreme climates and weather that are life-threatening when at sea. The lack of knowledge of fishermen about first aid for drowning victims can increase the death rate due to drowning. This community service activity aimed to increase the knowledge and skills of fishermen in providing first aid to drowning victims. Methods: This community service was carried out on 30 fishermen who live in the Coastal Area of Paciran Village, Lamongan Regency. The method used is through education and training which includes health promotion and training for drowning victims. Education activities are carried out directly to fishermen with the theme of handling drowning victims. The training materials provided to fishermen are basic life support and handling choking victims. The training is carried out through lectures, demonstrations - simulations and discussions. Results: Fishermen's knowledge before the activity was 6 people (20%) in the poor category, 10 people (33.3%) in the sufficient category, and 14 people (46.7%) in the good category. While knowledge after the activity 1 person (3.3%) had poor knowledge, 2 people (6.7%) in the sufficient category, and 27 people (90%) in the good category. The pre-test and post-test results showed an increase in fishermen's knowledge about first aid for drowning victims. Conclusion: Increasing the capacity of fishermen in providing first aid to drowning victims can be done through health education and training. Training activities can be integrated into fishermen's programs or activities so that fishermen's capacity will be more optimal.

Abstract

Hypertension remains a major global health challenge due to its strong association with cardiovascular diseases and premature mortality. Lifestyle interventions, particularly physical activity, play a crucial role in managing hypertension. This systematic review aimed to analyze the effectiveness of concurrent training on blood pressure reduction in hypertensive patients. A systematic literature search was conducted across four databases (Scopus, ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Web of Science) from 2020 to 2025, following PRISMA guidelines. 8 studies (one RCT and seven quasi-experiments) involving 571 participants were included. The interventions ranged from 4 to 30 weeks, with most using treadmill walking or cycling for aerobic training and free weights or machines for resistance training. The results showed that seven out of eight studies reported significant reductions in blood pressure. Additionally, concurrent training was associated with improvements in body composition, functional performance, and health-related quality of life. The physiological mechanisms underlying these benefits likely include improved endothelial function, enhanced nitric oxide availability, and increased baroreflex sensitivity. This review concludes that concurrent training is an effective, safe, and holistic intervention for blood pressure management in middle-aged hypertensive populations.

Abstract

Background: Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) is a common complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and is closely linked to poor glycemic control. However, little is known about how environmental and lifestyle differences between urban and rural settings affect the risk of DPN.Purpose: This study aimed to identify and compare the risk factors of DPN among T2DM patients living in rural and urban areas. Methods: A comparative cross-sectional design with purposive sampling was used to recruit 156 T2DM patients from both urban (Surabaya) and rural (Lamongan) areas of East Java, Indonesia. Data were collected using the Vascular Quality of Life-6 (VQ-6), Diabetic Neuropathy Symptom (DNS), Diabetic Neuropathy Examination (DNE), and Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI). Logistic regression was performed, with a significance level set at p<0.05.Results: The mean age of rural participants was 55.8 years, slightly younger than that of urban participants. Urban residents had higher levels of education (37.7%) but engaged less in regular physical activity (51.9%). The risk of DPN differed significantly between rural and urban participants. Vascular function (ABI, OR = 4.526, range = 0.7–4.00), peripheral nerve symptoms (DNS, OR = 2.838, range = 0–2), neurological deficits (DNE, OR = 1.571, range = 0–5), and neuropathy-related quality of life (VQ-6, OR = 0.663, range = 0–24, p=0.020) were more pronounced among rural participants. Conclusion: Rural T2DM patients are at greater risk of DPN due to vascular and neuropathic complications, combined with sociodemographic disadvantages. These findings highlight the importance of early detection and tailored education programs for rural communities to prevent and manage DPN.
