Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to develop a PISA-type content quantity that uses the context of religious holidays during the pandemic that is valid, practical, and potentially affects mathematical literacy skills. This research uses development research with two stages: preliminary and formative evaluation. This research also uses Inquiry- Based Learning (IBL) model in the learning process. This study involved eighth-grade students aged 13-15 years of various abilities. Data collection and analysis techniques were documentation, walkthroughs, observation, interviews, and tests. The research was carried out offline and online (Zoom and WhatsApp Group (WAG)). In this study, sharing activities were produced as well as a PISA-type jumping task with content quantity characteristics in the context of religious holiday during the pandemic by the PISA 2022 framework where what needs to be considered are mathematical literacy skills and use of language that is by language standards that can be applied and well interpreted by the students. Based on the students' answers, it can be seen that the questions and activities are included in the practical category because they can be solved well by students. From the results, it can be concluded that the developed PISA-like numeracy and activity has a potential effect on mathematical literacy skills and life in the context of religious days during the pandemic. In addition, IBL model can improve students' communication skills in solving PISA-type math problems and activities. DOI: https://doi.org/10.22342/jpm.17.1.17765.37-54

Abstract

This study aims to produce valid and practical PISA-based numerical problems in the context of the pandemic period and to find out the role of the questions in the form of potential effects on the mathematical literacy skills of secondary school students. This research uses developmental research design, which has 2 stages, namely preliminary and formative evaluation (self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one and small group validation, and field test). The participants in this study were students in Grade 8 who were under the age of 15 and different levels of skills. Data analysis was done descriptively by conducting observations, tests, interviews, and document analysis. The research was conducted face-to-face and via Zoom and WhatsApp Group (WAG) to produce valid and practical PISA-like arithmetic questions. Based on the students' responses, it can be stated that the questions presented are in the practical category because they can be completed quickly by students, they can be understood well by students, and they have the potential effect on students' mathematical literacy skills. In addition, there is a diversity of answers between one student and another according to the level of difficulty that is appropriate for Grade 8 students. This proves that a PISA-like numeration problem in the context of the religious day during a pandemic can help improve students' mathematical literacy.DOI : https://doi.org/10.22342/jpm.16.2.16010.157-170

Abstract

AbstractThis research explores ethnomathematics in Limas traditional houses in Anyar Village, South Sumatra Province. Ethnomathematics refers to the application of mathematical concepts in local culture. Limas houses are traditional buildings that not only function as residences, but also have important social and cultural roles for the people of Palembang. The architectural forms and ornaments of this house contain various mathematical concepts, such as geometry, algebra, and trigonometry. This research uses an explorative method with an ethnographic approach to describe and analyze mathematical elements in the construction of Limas Houses. Taxonomic analysis was used to categorize existing cultural symbols. The results showed that the community intuitively applied mathematical concepts in the construction of Rumah Limas, including in the calculation of proportion, scale, and roof slope angle. These findings suggest that Rumah Limas is not only a symbol of local cultural wealth, but also an example of the harmonious and aesthetic application of mathematics in traditional architecture.

Abstract

Technology is something that can help people worldwide as a means to facilitate education. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The research population consisted of students from grades X, XI, and XII at SMA Negeri 1 Kandis, with a sample of three students from each grade. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The interviews aimed to explore students’ perceptions of the use of technology in mathematics learning at SMA Negeri 1 Kandis, specifically through chat and voice notes (VN) on the WhatsApp application. The interview results were described based on the perception factors applied in this study. The findings showed that the percentage of technology use in mathematics learning was as follows: sometimes 56%, often 28%, always 12%, and never 4%. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of technology in mathematics learning is still very low.
