Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Coastal ecosystems, specifically mangrove trees, safeguard coastal regions against natural disasters like erosion, floods, and tsunamis. Numerical simulations employing the Shallow Water Equation (SWE), encompassing mass and momentum conservation equations, are used to comprehend how mangroves attenuate wave energy. The SWE incorporates Manning's friction term, which is directly influenced by mangrove forests. However, the SWE's complexity and sensitivity to initial conditions hinder analytical solutions. Despite its increasing computational demands, we utilize the robust staggered grid method to address this challenge. Our study examines mangroves' wave-attenuating effects and introduces a parallel computational model using OpenMP to expedite computations. Findings reveal that mangroves can reduce wave amplitudes by up to 33% when employing a Manning's coefficient of 0.3 within confined basin simulations. Furthermore, our parallel computing experiments demonstrate substantial computation speed enhancements; the speedup improves up to a point, with a notable 7.26-fold acceleration observed when utilizing eight threads compared to a single line. Moreover, more than a 10-fold acceleration is observed when the number of threads is greater than 16. This underscores the significance of parallelization in exploring mangrove contributions to coastal protection.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study addresses the decline in students’ empathy, marked by increasing individualism and low social awareness. It highlights the need for a love-based curriculum that emphasizes compassion beyond cognitive learning. The study aims to describe the improvement of empathy among fifth-grade students at MI Nurul Mun’im through this approach.. Methodology: . A descriptive qualitative methodology was employed, and data were gathered via observation, interviews, and recording with 34 students, Islamic Religious Education teachers, and the Deputy Curriculum. Data reduction, presentation, and triangulation validity testing were used to analyze the data and derive findings. Main Findings: The findings show that a love-based curriculum can foster humanistic, interactive, and meaningful learning, as well as raise students’ empathy, including cooperation, compassion, and respect for one another. Teacher readiness, madrasah support, and a variety of teaching strategies contributed to this accomplishment, but challenges, including variations in student character, time constraints, and environmental factors, persisted. In conclusion, through a steady process of habituation, the love-based curriculum effectively increases students’ empathy. In the context of Islamic education in particular, this research advances the development of humanitarian-based character education Novelty/Originality of this study: Madrasahs are advised to expand teacher preparation, increase implementation consistency, and carry out additional research to evaluate this strategy’s long-term efficacy.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country that has many islands and is rich in tourist destinations such as natural tourism, history, religion, culture, and so on. This attracts foreign tourists to visit or travel to Indonesia. One of the leading destinations in South Sulawesi which attracts foreign and domestic tourists is the Rammang-Rammang Karst in Maros which is known as the largest karst in Indonesia and is also a Global Karst Geopark Area approved by UNESCO. Rammang-Rammang Karst is an area that has a unique panorama, namely the type of karst, namely, tower karst with the natural landscape shape (geomorphology) of the Maros-Pangkep Karst area. Increasing the capacity of the Salenrang Village community is urgently needed so that the dissemination of geology-based information is more optimal. Therefore, the Department of Geological Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, in collaboration with the Salenrang Village Government, organized a Laboratory Based Education (LBE) Service to increase the capacity of the people of Salenrang Village, Maros Regency. The methods used in this LBE event are observation, socialization and presenting information on tourist destinations through pamphlets and brochures. The observation method is carried out with the aim of systematically obtaining data on objects that will be socialized at the LBE service location in detail. Socialization was carried out to the Salenrang Village community about the tourism potential and geological conditions of the Rammang – Rammang Karst by distributing brochures and pamphlets to the Salenrang Village community in the LBE event area. Based on the results of the questionnaire, around 63% of visitors understand geological information in the tourist area, making it a challenge to disseminate better information. Through this LBE event, the people of Salenrang Village have proven that scientific information related to geological characteristics is very helpful in managing the geoheritage of the Rammang Rammang Area so that the increase in visitors will increase.
