Abstract

In the context of this discussion, research was conducted to understand the challenges in understanding basic mathematics among students majoring in civil and mining engineering. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews and tests to provide a comprehensive view. The questionnaire results revealed that most students felt confident in some aspects of basic mathematics, but some felt insecure with obstacles such as difficulty understanding concepts, difficulty remembering formulas, and lack of rigor. Interviews provided additional insights by revealing the reasons behind the level of confidence or lack of confidence. Test results showed that the majority of students still needed to improve their understanding of basic mathematics, and none were able to answer all questions correctly. In addition, there was a relationship between school of origin and test results, although most students came from senior high schools. Therefore, improvements in learning strategies and additional support are needed to help all students improve their understanding of basic mathematics, regardless of their school of origin, with the aim of improving their success in civil and mining engineering studies. As such, these results provide a foundation for improvements in the learning of basic mathematics, involving improvements in the way the material is taught, special attention to the most difficult-to-understand concepts, and support for students facing difficulties, to ensure better understanding of basic mathematics for all students.

Abstract

Peperangan dunia melawan pandemi covid-19 masih belum usai. Untuk menyiasati hal ini, dalam bidang pendidikan pemerintah memberikan terobosan baru berupa Hybrid learning (blanded learning). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan Hybrid learning terhadap hasil belajar kognitif mahasiswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Politeknik Negeri Ketapang. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester 1 Jurusan Teknik Sipil. Waktu penelitian dilakukan pada semester ganjil tahun akademik 2021/2022. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode eksperimen yang berupa one group before after-design. Perhitungan hasil analisis uji t yang diperoleh thitung = 3,176 sedangkan ttabel dengan α = 5% dan df = 62-1 = 61 diperoleh nilai ttabel = 1.67022. Melihat hasil perhitungan tersebut, thitung > ttabel maka Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada pengaruh Model Pembelajaran Hybrid terhadap Hasil Belajar Kognitif Mahasiswa Semester 1 Jurusan Teknik Sipil Politeknik Negeri Ketapang

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the main competencies that must be possessed by students in facing the challenges of an increasingly complex and dynamic world of work. One method that can be used to measure and improve students' critical thinking skills is by using HOTS questions. The use of Google Forms as a medium for HOTS quizzes provides various advantages. The objectives of this research are: 1) To determine the level of critical thinking skills of Gen Z students in the Hydraulics course, and 2) To determine the effectiveness of using HOTS (High Order Thinking Skills) quiz based on Google Forms in measuring and improving students' critical thinking skills in Hydraulics course. This research is a quantitative descriptive research. The number of samples was 54 students. The research instrument was in the form of HOTS questions. The average score for each quiz is as follows: Quiz 1 has an average of about 70.3, Quiz 2 with an average of about 64.8, Quiz 3 shows an average of about 65.7, and Quiz 4 has an average of about 84.5. The level of critical thinking skills of Gen Z students in the course varied, with some students showing high skills from the start, while others needed time to adapt. The use of Google Forms-based HOTS quizzes was effective in measuring and improving students' critical thinking skills. The variation in scores on each quiz reflects the different critical thinking skills among students. The increase in scores from Quiz 1 to Quiz 4 shows that students were able to adapt to this evaluation method and improve their critical thinking skills. Google Forms also provides consistent grading and quick feedback, which helps in the learning process.
