Abstract

Objective: to compare the effectiveness of Tendon and Nerve Gliding Technique (TNGT) exercise with ultrasound diathermy.Methods: Twenty Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) hands meet the inclusion criteria and divided into2 groups: TNGT exercise and Ultrasound group. The subjects’ characteristics in the two groups are homogenous.Results: The statistical analysis results using Friedman test on pain/paresthesia complaint and hand functional status in each group is significant. Using the ANOVA, results of pain/paresthesia complaintbetween two groups shows a significant difference in the 4th measurement and results of functional status between two groups show a significant difference in the 9th measurement.Conclusions: Our study emphasized the TNGT exercise combined with splinting will be a good alternative treatment for CTS beside ultrasound diathermy combined with splinting, since TNGTexercise group has the same effectiveness with ultrasound diathermy group in decreasing VAS and has better effectiveness in improvement of FSS.Keywords: CTS, TNGT, Ultrasound Diathermy, VAS, FSS.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Introduction: Increased aerobic exercise capacity appears to reduce all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality. Aerobic exercise improves functional capacity (FC) is strongly recommended.However, evidence regarding the most efficient exercise intensity for patients post Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (CABG) is still limited. This study aimed to assess the effects of high-intensity intervalexercise (HIIT) compared to moderate-continous intensity exercise (MCT) for increasing FC in patients post CABG. Methods: True experimental pre-post study included 6 men post CABG participating in a phase II cardiac rehabilitation (CR) with age ≤ 65 years old, ejection fraction ≥ 40%, no heart failure, no valve disease.Each group had 3 participants. HIIT group exercise at 80-90% Heart Rate Reserve (HRR) followed by 60-70% HRR active rest periods, MCT group exercised at 60-80% HRR. Both groups trained 3 days/week for 4 weeks. FC measured at baseline and after 4 weeks of rehabilitation. FC was assessed by maximal exercise testing through indirect VO2 max measurement. Results: After training, FC increased significantly in both group HIIT: 0,98±0,48 METs (8.07±1.51 METs to 9.05±1.21 METs), p=0.03 and MCT : 0,79±1,03 METs (5.74±2.24 to 6.53±1.69 METs), p=0.04).Differences in FC improvement between the two groups are p=0.792. Conclusion: HIIT exercise had no difference with MCT in increasing FC in patients post CABG. Abstract

Since this issue on the COVID-19 pandemic started, the entire world is still in the middle of thecrisis, although less intensely so than during the earlier period of tremendous lockdown. We haveall been affected by the crisis in some way and have been forced to adapt. While it remains to beseen whether the markers of social experiences will become part of the “new normal,” one thing iscertain for intellectual work: researchers will need to record and analyze how different societies havebeen managed inability to respond to the COVID-19 problematics, to learn from one another and topinpoint the working logics of various social formations.

Abstract

The COVID-19 outbreak has been declared a public health emergency of worldwide concern by theWorld Health Organization. The direct and indirect effects of COVID-19 on health and well-beingare still being investigated. Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease which decreasedcardiopulmonary endurance and pulmonary function are the clinical manifestations. Inspiratory MuscleTraining (IMT) has never been studied before, but aerobic exercise is commonly studied in SLE patients.This study was conducted to know the combination ef fect of IMT and aerobic exercise in SLE patients.Materials and methods: This study use quasi experimental design with pre and post-test approach.Fourteen SLE patients that included in the Lupus Low Disease Activity State (LLDAS) were givenIMT and aerobic exercise for 8 weeks. Cardiopulmonary endurance is measured by 6-minute walk test(6MWT) and Metabolic Equivalents (METs), pulmonary function by Maximal Inspiratory Pressure(MIP), Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 second (FEV1), and Forced Vital Capacity (FVC).Results: There is significant increase in pre and post intervention data, 397.45 ± 49.34 vs 427.50 ± 48.67for 6MWT; 5.25 ± 1.14 vs 5.84 ± 1.08 for METs; 56.20 ± 14.24 vs 86.36 ± 20.73 for MIP; 68.00 ± 10.71vs 72.90 ± 11.30 for FEV1; and 1.81 ± 1 1.14 vs 77.36 ± 11.80 for FVC.Conclusion: The combination of IMT and aerobic exercise can increase cardiopulmonary endurance andpulmonary function in SLE patients.Keywords: aerobic, inspiratory muscle training, lupus low disease activity state, maximal inspiratorypressure, metabolic equivalents, six-minute walk test.

Abstract

Background: Half of people with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (Type 2 DM) developed diabetic neuropathyat 25 years after being diagnosed and around 75% of the neuropathy were diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN), that associated with balance disturbance. This study aimed to know the effect of combining Indonesiandiabetic exercise (Senam Diabetes Indonesia/SDI) and Indonesian diabetic foot exercise (Senam Kaki DiabetesIndonesia/SKDI) on improvement of diabetic neuropathy and balance score in people with Type 2 diabeticperipheral neuropathy.Methods: Design study was a quasi-experimental study with pre-posttest design. The participants were Type 2DM patients aged 40-65 years old, with DPN confirmed based on Indonesian version of Diabetic NeuropathySymptom (DNS-INA) >1 or Indones ian version of Diabetic Neuropathy Exmination (DNE-INA) >3, who didnot do exercise regularly. All participants had Berg Balance Scale (BBS) score within 41-55, and the randomperipheral blood glucose within 100-250mg/dL. The BBS, DNE-INA, and DNS-INA score were evaluatedbefore and after 12 weeks of excercise.Results: There were 6 women aged 52-65 years. The mean of BBS, DNS-INA, and DNE-INA scores beforeand after intervention were 54.33±1.032 and 55.16±1.329 (p=0.025), 2.50±1.048 and 1.50±0.836 (p=0.063),3.66±1.505 and 1.33±0.816 (p=0.041), respectively.Conclusion: There were improvement of Berg Balance Score and Diabetic Neuropathy Score after thecombination of Diabetic exercises.Keywords: Berg Balance Score, diabetic neuropathy score, Indonesian Diabetic Exercise, Indonesian FootDiabetic Exercise

Abstract

Introduction: Cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and physical activity (PA) in childhood can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases in adults. Further analysis related to the relationship between PA and CRFto prevent an inactive lifestyle is neededMethods: An analytic cross-sectional design in adolescents aged 13-15 years old, who had no cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, with light or medium physical activity, no deformity in thelower limbs and posture disorders. Cardiorespiratory fitness was assessed by the indirect method Bruce Protocol in the Faculty of Sport and Health Education’s library, The University of Pendidikan Indonesiaon September-October 2019. Physical activity was measure by the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Adolescent (PAQ-A).Results: Subjects consisted of 82 adolescents (41 boys, 41 girls), aged 13-15 years old with the Body mass index (BMI) was 18.5-29 kg/m2. The mean value of predicted VO2max (Bruce) for boys and girlswere 46.66 ± 8.765 and 40.06 ± 6.210 ml/kg2, while the value of predicted PAQ-A score for boys and girls were 2.54±0.756 and 2.16±0.416. The correlation between PAQ-A and VO2max in boys and girlswere r=0,190, p=0,234 and r=0.420; p=0.006.Conclusion: There was a moderate association between PAQ-A with VO2max in girls.Keywords: Cardiorespiratory fitness, Physical activity questionnaire, VO2max.

Abstract

Effective and safe swallowing is one of the basic needs for human survival. Dysphagia or swallowing disorders often occur in the elderly and increase with age. Patients often do not complain of dysphagia and compensate by modifying the texture of the food. Frailty is associated with an increased prevalence of dysphagia. Difficulty of chewing, formation and positioning bolus are associated with dysphagia. In addition, dysphagia can cause weakness because there is a disturbance due to decrease nutritional status, muscle function, and can cause recurrent aspiration pneumonia. Frailty and dysphagia can be described as a cycle and affect each other. Several interventions were carried out to overcome dysphagia, either compensatory, rehabilitative, or a combination of both.
