Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui seberapa besar minat masuk perguruan tinggi bagi siswa kelas XII program keahlian Teknik Mesin dan Teknik Otomotif di SMK Serang masuk tahun 2016. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kuantitatif. Sampel penelitian diambil dengan teknik Proportional Random Sampling sejumlah 165 siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan angket  (kuesioner). Uji validitas instrument dilakukan dengan construct validity melalui experts judgment dengan metode factor analysis. Uji reliabititas menggunakan Alpha. Besarnya minat diuji dengan statistic regresi ganda dengan bantuan SPSS versi 21. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahawa minat masuk perguruan tinggi di Serang dengan rerata persentase 71.76%. Minat tersebut dipengaruhi oleh faktor dalam diri sendiri, faktor lingkungan keluarga, dan faktor lingkungan sekolah dengan koefisien regresi masing-masing sebesar 0.199; 0.190; dan 0.090. Faktor diri sendiri dan lingkungan keluarga secara bersama-sama mempengaruhi minat masuk perguruan tinggi sebesar 37,6%. Kata kunci: Minat, Perguruan Tinggi, Diri Sendiri, Sekolah, dan Keluarga

Abstract

Abstract - This research was intended to design a supplementary listening material that could help students to meet their needs in improving their listening skill. This materials would be build through an application that could be operated through personal computer or android. This research employed innovative work (R&D). It will follow the models of creating instructional materials which include Needs assessments, Product planning and design, Preliminary product development, Preliminary field testing, Product revision, Main field testing and Final product revision. [1] The objective of this study was to explain and describe the process of designing and using the supplementary listening material. In addition, this research was also aimed at finding out the influence of using the supplementary listening materials for undergraduate students. To answer the research questions, questionnaire and test were used as the instruments of the research to gain the data. Then the data were analyzed quantitatively by utilizing recurrence and rate. The most elevated rate were considered as the representation on the undergraduate condition. After that point, the recommendation and the remarks were dissected descriptively to decide the substance of the listening materials.Keywords – Android, Desktop, Supplementary Listening Materials, Undergraduate Students.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine student perceptions and challenges faced by a teacher when using Kejar.id during the Covid-19 pandemic. This article uses qualitative descriptive methods with interviews, questionnaires, and documentation techniques to collect data. The data have collected from the twelfth-grade students and the English teacher which have learned using Kejar.id in English subject. The researcher himself is the instrument of this research to analyze the data from participants. The research findings showed that mostly students gave good perceptions about Kejar.id. The students said that the use of Kejar.id helped them in terms of student administration, checking learning progress, accessing virtual classes, the learning process and assessment, meanwhile, the problem experienced by students was the network. Furthermore, the results of interviews conducted with the teacher showed that there are four problems arose in using Kejar.id, namely teaching learning styles and culture challenges, pedagogical e-learning challenges, technological challenges, and time efficiency challenges. The results of this research indicated if students gave the positive perceptions in using Kejar.id also the teacher have faced several challanges when using Kejar.id as learning management system in English classroom

Abstract

This study aimed to find out how are the perception of students regarding to the use of role play technique in learning speaking skills and also what are strengths and weaknesses of it according to students’ perception at SMP Negeri 1 Kelapa Dua, Tangerang. The objectives of the research were to comprehend about how are the perception of students regarding to the use of role play technique in learning speaking skills and also to find out about what are strengths and weaknesses of using role play technique in learning speaking skills according to students’ perception. The research employed a case study method. The data were collected by observation, questionnaire, and interview. The results of the research showed that it helped them in English Vocabulary, English Grammar, English Comprehension, English Pronunciation, and also their English fluency. Moreover, it was more fun and helped them to cultivate their knowledge, made them interested and more enthusiastic, more optimistic, more motivated, taught them about teamwork, involved them directly, and more active. However, it still made them shy and afraid when playing roles. It is also proven to be efficient as a technique in learning speaking skills, but less effective in fostering their self-confidence.

Abstract

The research aimed to find out the effectiveness of using Instagram in teaching English pronunciation at SMA Negeri 4 Kota Serang. This study used a method that is quasi-experimental research. This study used a sample of tenth-grade students with a total of 60 students, 30 experimental students and 30 control class students. Both classes received a pre-test at the first researcher entering the class, and a post-test at the last researcher entering the class. The post-test results from the two classes would then be compared to find out the effectiveness of Instagram in teaching English pronunciation. Sig-2 tailed value from the experimental and control class was 0.01 and alpha (a) was 0.05, or 0.01<0.05, according to the results of the Independent Sample T-Test. It indicates that  was rejected and  was accepted. It is possible to conclude that Instagram was effective to improve students pronunciation.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to reveal the process of teaching reading comprehension of narrative texts, and to find out the teacher's problems in applying story mapping techniques in teaching reading comprehension of narrative texts. This study uses qualitative research with a case study method. Data was collected from observation, interviews, and documentation. The participant in this study was an English teacher for class X IPA who taught narrative texts by applying the story mapping technique. The process of teaching and learning reading comprehension is going well, although not optimal. Meanwhile, there are five problems faced by the teacher in teaching reading comprehension, namely the teacher has difficulty if students cannot achieve basic mastery in reading, the teacher has difficulty if students read very slowly the reading text being taught, the teacher has difficulty if students cannot understand and find. conclusions, implications, and main ideas of the reading text, the teacher has difficulties in choosing teaching materials in teaching reading comprehension of narrative texts, and the teacher has problems in designing or modifying questions and exercises to attract students' interest in learning reading comprehension of narrative texts.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to find out the use of Cake Application in improving the students’ listening ability at the seventh grade of SMPN 2 Sepatan. This research used quantitative research with a quasi-experimental approach. The researcher used experimental class and control class for the respondents. The researcher using Cake Application for experimental class while for Control class using conventional method. The population in this study were students of the class VII SMPN 2 Sepatan. The sample of this research were the students of class 7.3 included 35 students and class 7.4 included 35 students. The result showed that the t-test value of sig <0,01, it means that the p value <0.05. It was concluded that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. That means there were significant differences students’ listening ability before and after using the Cake Application. The research conducted shows that the use of Cake Application on students’ listening ability was effective.Keywords: Listening, Cake Application, Mobile Learning

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan video talk show berbahasa Inggris di YouTube terhadap kemampuan menyimak siswa kelas 8 SMPN 5 Cilegon. Desain penelitian kuantitatif yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian eksperimen, dengan sampel terdiri dari 30 siswa di kelas eksperimen dan 30 siswa di kelas kontrol. Peneliti menggunakan pendekatan kuasi-eksperimen untuk pengumpulan data. Berdasarkan temuan, terdapat perbedaan antara kelas eksperimen yang menggunakan video talk show berbahasa Inggris sebagai media pembelajaran dan kelas kontrol yang menerima pengajaran konvensional. Efektivitas pembelajaran di kelas eksperimen lebih nyata dibandingkan dengan kelas kontrol. Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa penggunaan video talk show berbahasa Inggris di YouTube dalam proses pembelajaran menunjukkan efektivitas dalam mengajar siswa kelas 8 SMPN 5 Cilegon pada tahun ajaran 2023/2024. Uji hipotesis dalam penelitian ini, yang dilakukan menggunakan uji Independent Sample T-test, menunjukkan signifikansi (2-tailed) kurang dari 0,05, sehingga hipotesis nol (Ho) ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima. Selain itu, nilai effect size sebesar 1,215 menunjukkan tingkat pengaruh yang tinggi. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan video talk show berbahasa Inggris di YouTube sebagai media pembelajaran memiliki dampak positif terhadap efektivitas belajar siswa di kelas, dan penggunaan YouTube: The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon direkomendasikan sebagai media pengajaran untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menyimak siswa. _________________________________________________________________________________ This research aim to determine of effectivenes of using English talk show video on Youtube towards students listening skills at 8th grade students of SMPN 5 Cilegon. The quantitative research design used in this study is an experimental research method, with sample comprising 30 students in experimental class and 30 students in the control class. The researcher employed a quasi-experimental appoarch for data collection. Based on the findings, there were differences between experimental class were the class that uses English talk show videos as a learning media and the control class which received conventional instruction.  The effectiveness of learning in the experimental class was more evident compared to the control class. The researcher concluded that the use of English talk show videos on YouTube in the learning process demonstrated effectiveness in teaching eighth-grade students at SMPN 5 Cilegon during the 2023/2024 academic year. The hypothesis test in this study, conducted using an Independent Sample T-test, showed a significance (2-tailed) of less than 0.05, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho) and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). Additionally, the effect size of 1.215 indicated a high level of impact. This demonstrates that the use of English talk show videos on YouTube as a learning medium had a positive effect on students' learning effectiveness in class and the use o YouTube: The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in the classroom is recommended as a teaching medium for students listening skills.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to determine the types of the language styles used by Taylor Swift in Her iHeartRadio Speech as the Winner of the Innovator Award. This research identifies the most dominant type of language styles used by Taylor Swift in Her iHeartRadio Speech as the Winner of the Innovator Award. This research also aims to determine the theory of social factors according to Janet Holmes (2013) which influences the use of language style. The method used in this thesis is a qualitative method. The research design in this research is content analysis. The data source is video from official Youtube IheartRadio. The dominant type of language style is consultative style. The researcher found that there were 7 of Consultative Style, 5 of Casual Style, 2 of Formal Style, 1 of Intimate Style, and 0 data of Frozen Style. There are some factors that influence the choice of language style, they are participant, setting, topic, and function. Taylor Swift’s speech at the iHeartRadio Awards shows how using different language styles can make communication more effective and this is also useful in education field. The language style that Taylor Swift uses in her speech can be used in the field of education. Using the appropriate language style at the right moment can significantly enhance the effectiveness of communication.
