Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find causative construction in Indonesian and English in the novel Laskar Pelangi and the translation of The Rainbow Troops by Andrea Hirata, analyse and examine in depth the equivalence and grammatical incompatibility of the translation of the causative construction, and describe the shift in grammatical equivalence of the translation of causative constructs from Indonesian into English. The method used in this study is content analysis with a qualitative approach. This method is used to find facts about grammatical equivalence in the form of causative construction. The shift in the word level occurs at a higher level, namely the phrase, at the phrase level there is no shift, and at the level of the clause, there is a shift at a lower level, namely the phrase or higher level, namely the main clause and sentence. In the sentence level, the shift occurs in the type of sentence, into sentences that are wider or smaller, or into clauses. The novelty in this research is the grammatical equivalence of causative constructs in translation and its shift from Indonesian into English.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the potential and the pitfalls of the implementation of hybrid learning in structure class.  The sampling technique used was purposive sampling since there was only one class who experienced hybrid learning in grammar class. The samples were 20 students of class D from the third semester. The research instrument was a questionnaire and also Focus Group Interview. The research method used is mixed method. The quantitative data is taken from experimental research design and is processed by using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) software version 25.0. the qualitative data is taken from the questionnaire and focus group interview.  The results showed the application of hybrid learning affected positively to the students score in structure class since there is significant increase of their posttest score. Based on the qualitative data, it is shown that the application of hybrid learning model has certain aspects that affect their improvement in structure class.  Yet, based on the FGI, the researcher also found out some disadvantages of pitfalls of the implementation of hybrid learning.

Abstract

Teaching skills are one of the key indicators of pedagogical and professional competencies that pre-service teachers must possess. These skills include not only the ability to deliver subject matter but also the ability to manage learning activities, which consist of pre-activity, whilst-activity, and post-activity. This study aims to describe the effectiveness of microteaching learning in enhancing pre-service teachers' competencies. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that microteaching learning conducted over one semester provides adequate theoretical and practical preparation for pre-service teachers to undertake School Field Practice (PLP) 2. Students were able to design and implement lessons aligned with the applicable curriculum and effectively utilize appropriate teaching models and media. However, challenges remain in the development and implementation of lesson plans. Therefore, more intensive guidance from lecturers and mentor teachers is necessary to ensure that pre-service teachers are adequately prepared to teach effectively.

Moreover, the students’ interest of using and exploring conventional teaching materials is also still low. One of the materials given in every level of education now is PLH or Environment Education. The government concerns about environment education should be supported by the availability of appropriate and interactive teaching media. Therefore, this study aims to develop and produce digital teaching media for the subject under the topic of environment pollution as well as improving students’ literacy and understanding of the subject material in PLH subject. The research employed research and development design started with analysis process, designing process, development process, implementation and evaluation process. The result of the research is E-Magazine as one of the Learning resources that contain learning materials that are displayed attractively with more interesting features such as images, videos, and interesting display. The result of the product’s implementation shows that the students’ digital literacy of environmental pollution is increased by the score of 82,11%. Based on results analysis of the students’ understanding of the environmental pollution for the subject, the N-gain score was 0,83 and it was higher than 0,70 as the standard for high level effectiveness.

Abstract

Students’ literacy skill has become pivotal in the era of globalization for both academic and professional success. However, according to the observation, conventional teaching methods often fail to accommodate the cultural diversity of students and do not include essential 21st – century skills. Moreover, lesson plans that integrate 21st - century skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, cultural awareness, and character development are vital for supporting students learning success. Referring to the principles of CRT and 21st century education, this research explores the English teachers’ practices and challenges in integrating culturally responsive teaching (CRT) and digital tools in literacy instructions for senior high school students. The data was collected through a structured questionnaire highlighted current practices, barriers faced, and teachers’ preferences for module design. The interview session was also conducted to confirm the data from the documentation obtained in a form of lesson plan. The findings provide valuable insights for developing teaching materials that address these challenges while fostering critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration among students. Accordingly, the data will be able to provide the possible alternatives to include in teaching module for English teachers

Abstract

Technology has been in active use for a long time particularly in higher educational institutions. Mainly, technology provides various opportunities to enhance students’ performance to language learning. This present paper discusses the implementation and integration a technologyengagement teaching strategy with the aid of PowToon by focusing on students’ vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension. This study presents the teaching practices that occur through such an activity by applying Powtoon as a multimodal learning tool to enhance students’ vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension. In addition, in the second section of this paper, this paper presents the students’ attitude toward the teaching of reading through Powtoon. This paper concludes with comments about both the extent of Powtoon as a multimodal learning tool and about the future of teaching reading comprehension through technology in a multimodal world. Keywords: technology, language learning, PowToon. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v10.i3.202015

Abstract

In the context of Indonesia higher education, English academic reading poses notable challenges for EFL students, particularly due to complex language and limited instructional support. To address this issue, annotation emerges as a critical strategy to facilitate comprehension and engagement with scholarly texts. This study aims to explore the annotation practices employed by eight-semester EFL students when reading academic materials. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through documentation of annotated texts and semi-structured interviews involving six students from an English Language Education Study Program at Pakuan University. The analysis followed Marshall's framework, categorizing annotations into three types: anchor only, content only, and compound. Findings revealed that students predominantly used anchor only annotations-highlighting and underlining- to mark essential information. Some employed compound annotations by integrating text markers with reflective notes, while content only annotations were less frequent but demonstrated deeper processing through independent summaries. These practices indicate that annotation supports not only reading comprehension but also academic writing and critical engagement. The study recommends integrating explicit instruction on annotation techniques into EFL reading curricula to empower students as active readers and knowledge constructors.
