Abstract

Kokoro novel by Natsume Soseki depicts the emotional struggle and loneliness of its characters amidst the pressure of Japan's socio-cultural transformation in the Meiji era, namely the shift from tradition to modernity. The characters' deep sadness is often expressed through the style of personification, making inanimate objects and natural atmospheres seem to have feelings, as a stylistic reflection rich in meaning. This study aims to identify the forms and imagery of personification that reflect the sadness of the main character and analyze the relationship between personification and the socio-cultural context of the Meiji era as a form of response to modernization. The study uses a cognitive stylistic approach (based on Lakoff & Johnson) and a sociocultural approach to see the relationship between language style and the context of changes in community values. The descriptive-qualitative method is carried out through the identification of personification quotes, classification of types, and interpretation of emotional meaning and its relationship to socio-cultural phenomena. The results of the study show that personification appears in nature (wind, sky, rain, fog) and the city atmosphere which emphasizes sadness and alienation. Personification also serves as a medium for emotional expression of characters as well as a subtle critique of socio-cultural turmoil, showing how language constructs and voices emotions in a particular historical context. Through the personification of objects and atmosphere, Natsume Soseki conveys sadness, isolation and anxiety in a society caught in the current of modernization.

Abstract

Bacteria in dental and oral diseases can lead to systemic issues like kidney and heart disease, emphasizing the importance of maintaining oral hygiene. Disclosing solution, a plaque-revealing agent, is pivotal in assessing plaque removal efficacy. The optimal concentration of rose pink food coloring for plaque visibility is 2.5 g/20 ml water. However, the potential impact of this coloring on oral epithelium remains unstudied. Objective: This research aimed to evaluate the effect of disclosing solution food coloring on the gingival mucosal layer in mice. Pure experimental research with a control group design involved 6 mice (Mus musculus) each in treatment and control groups. Erythrocyn, derived from rose pink food coloring, was applied to mice’s gingiva for 2 minutes daily over 7 days. Labio-gingival epithelial cells were then sampled and analyzed using the modified Feulgen-Roseenbeck method. 58.33% of mice showed karyolysis in gingival epithelial cells, contrasting with no karyolysis in lip mucosa. Careful management of food coloring-containing erythrosine as a plaque detection agent is crucial to prevent contact with oral mucosa or prompt cleaning if contact occurs.

Abstract

IL-6 has been shown to enhance collagen synthesis and prolong the fibroblast proliferative phase, potentially contributing to uncontrolled keloid growth. However, despite its frequent mention in the literature as a crucial factor in keloid formation, studies specifically exploring the molecular mechanisms of IL-6 in fibroblast regulation and its interaction with other cytokines within keloid tissue remain limited. This study aims to further investigate the role of IL-6 in keloid matrix formation. This study is an analytical study conducted cross-sectionally. The samples used were patients diagnosed with keloids histopathologically based on microscopic criteria. Clinical data were taken from medical records and microscopic and immunohistochemical assessments using paraffin blocks available in the anatomical pathology laboratory of hospitals in Jambi city. There were 36 cases of keloids, aged between 12 and 42 years, mostly in women (66.7%), occurring in the trunk area (77.8%) 30 cases of recurrence (83.3%). We found 24 cases (77.8%) with strong IL-6 immunoexpression. There were 3 cases (8.3%) with no immunoexpression. There was a strong correlation between IL-6 immunoexpression and gender (p=0.03), age(0.04) and recurrence (p=0.02). The role of fibroblast cells is very important for the process of collagen formation in wound healing. The role of fibroblast cells is very important for the process of collagen formation in wound healing, where interleukin-6 in various theories and studies supports the process of collagen formation.
