Abstract

Abstract

The suitability of metal-ceramic fixed partial denture with the adjacent teeth is something that must be concidered in prosthodontics. To produce a good color match there are 3 factors : the color determination factor in the clinic, the communication between the operator and the laboratory, and the color adjustment factor in the laboratory. Many studies have been done but there are still many colors of metal-ceramic fixed partial dentures that do not match the adjacent teeth. The main purpose of this study to find out the result of color matching of metal-ceramic fixed partial denture to adjacent teeth in patient at RSGM Prima Mean. This research is a descriptive observational with cross- sectional design. The results showed that of the 50 patients who used metal- ceramic fixed partial denture in RSGM Prima Medan there were 13 patients (26%) who had the colors that match adjacent teeth and 37 patients (74%) who had colors that did not match the adjacent teeth. The conclusion of this study was that of 37 patients (100%) who had the colors of metal-ceramic fixed partial denture did not match with adjacent teeth, 26 patients (70.3%) errors occurred during color determination in the clinic, 7 patients (18.9%) errors in communication between the operator and the laboratory, and there were errors when determining color in the laboratory as many as 4 patients (10.8%).

Abstract

This research analyzes healthcare service quality and its impact on inpatient satisfaction among National Health Insurance-Contribution Assistance Recipient (JKN-PBI) participants at Muyang Kute Regional General Hospital, Bener Meriah Regency, Indonesia. Employing a descriptive-analytical survey design with a cross-sectional approach, data was collected from 69 randomly selected JKN-PBI inpatients using questionnaires. The study examined five service quality dimensions: tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, empathy, and assurance, and their relationship with patient satisfaction. Bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test revealed that reliability (p=0.003) and assurance (p=0.000) significantly influenced patient satisfaction, while tangibles, responsiveness, and empathy did not show statistically significant relationships (p>0.05). Reliability and assurance, reflecting consistent service delivery and staff competence, were crucial in fostering patient trust and satisfaction. Empathy, though not statistically significant, showed a trend towards positively influencing satisfaction, indicating a need for improvement in patient-centered care. The findings highlight the importance of reliability and assurance in enhancing JKN-PBI patient satisfaction. Recommendations include implementing training programs to improve staff empathy, maintaining high standards in reliability and assurance, and continuous patient feedback monitoring.

Abstract

Background: Metal-ceramic crowns remain a primary choice for dental restoration due to their adequate mechanical strength and relatively low cost. However, their esthetic success depends on the color stability of the porcelain, particularly the opaque layer that masks the underlying metal. Nanosilica derived from rice husks is an environmentally friendly material with potential as a reinforcing agent, but data on its effect on color changes in metal-ceramic crowns remain limited. This study aimed to analyze the effect of adding 0.5% rice husk nanosilica to the opaque layer on color changes in metal-ceramic crowns. Methods: An in vitro experimental study used Co-Cr metal samples coated with porcelain, with color evaluation based on the CIELAB system (L*, a*, b*) via colorimeter before and after nanosilica addition. Nanosilica was synthesized from rice husks and characterized using particle size analysis and scanning electron microscopy. Data were analyzed with Shapiro-Wilk test, Levene test, Welch t-test, and paired t-test.  Results: Characterization results showed nanosilica particles in the nanoscale range with two main distribution peaks and amorphous, spherical morphology with agglomeration tendency. L* values increased significantly, whereas changes in a* and b* values showed no significant differences.  Conclusion: These findings indicate that adding 0.5% rice husk nanosilica to the opaque layer increases brightness and total color change in metal-ceramic crowns, requiring esthetic control in its application.

Abstract

Complete dentures made from heat-polymerized acrylic resin are widely used for their good esthetics and biocompatibility, but their porous nature can promote the growth of Candida albicans and lead to denture stomatitis. While chemical cleansers such as alkaline peroxide are effective, long-term use may damage the denture material, highlighting the need for safer natural alternatives, including the ethanolic extract of areca nut (Areca catechu L.) with antimicrobial properties. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the inhibitory effectiveness of 32% and 40% areca nut ethanolic extracts against the growth of Candida albicans on heat-polymerized acrylic resin denture bases. This research was an in vitro experimental laboratory study with a post-test only control group design. A total of 24 acrylic resin specimens were divided into four groups: 32% areca nut extract, 40% areca nut extract, alkaline peroxide as a positive control, and distilled water as a negative control. After treatment, the number of Candida albicans colonies was counted and statistically analyzed. The results showed a significant difference among groups (p < 0.05). Both concentrations reduced fungal colonies, with the 40% extract showing greater inhibitory effectiveness than the 32% extract, although its antifungal activity remained lower than alkaline peroxide. In conclusion, the ethanolic extract of areca nut, especially at a 40% concentration, shows potential as a natural denture cleanser to inhibit Candida albicans growth
