Abstract

Success in conveying the essence of learning material is influenced by learning media. In language learning, interesting media tends to improve language skills. Joke videos can improve students' critical thinking skills in picking messages and criticism from jokes and joke texts packaged in pop ups help students improvise in performing jokes. The aim of this research is to use media to improve students' speaking skills in the material of presenting single jokes with the help of pop up media and joke videos. This research is Classroom Action Research (PTK). Research data is presented descriptively. The research subjects were 36 students in class X B at SMAN 3 Kupang. The data presented in this research are 1) the results of teacher and student performance tests, and the results of student speaking tests. In cycle I, classical completion only achieved 69.44%, then it increased in cycle II to 100%. Judging from the data from teacher and student observations in cycle I, it was 42.10% and 45.05%, then increased in cycle II to 80.26% and 84.21%. Based on these achievements, it can be concluded that the use of pop up media and learning videos can improve speaking skills in single joke text material for class X B students at SMAN 3 Kupang.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: 1) teks naratif favorit pilihan siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 7 Kupang; 2) sama-tidaknya teks naratif favorit pilihan siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 7 Kupang per kelompok sampel. Penelitian ini berlangsung di semester ganjil 2024/2025. Populasi penelitian ini adalah para siswa X SMA Negeri 7 Kupang yang mengisi kuesioner di google form yang disebarkan secara acak via guru Bahasa Indonesia berbasis WhatsApp. Mereka berjumlah 129 siswa yang terbagi dari 6 kelas paralel. Sampel ditetapkan 98 siswa; sesuai dengan formula Slavin. Jumlah sampel per kelompok ini ditetapkan secara proporsi yang dirarik secara random sederhana tanpa pengembalian. Teks naratif yang dimaksud dalam artikel ini adalah teks eksposisi topik IPA, teks ekposisi topik matematika, teks prosedur topik IPA, dan teks prosedur topik matematika. Untuk mengumpulkan data teks naratif favorit pilihan siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 7 Kupang digunakan instrumen kuesioner via google form dengan sistem tertutup yang memenuhi syarat validitas isi. Data teks naratif favorit pilihan siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 7 Kupang dianalisis menggunakan korelasi kontingensi melalui penghitungan manual. Daftar cek-ricek digunakan untuk memvalidasi data google form melalui excel dan memvalidasi secara internal hasil penghitungan korelasi kontingensi. Temuan penelitian: 1) teks naratif favorit pilihan siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 7 Kupang adalah teks eksposisi; 2) terdapat perbedaan teks naratif favorit pilihan siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 7 Kupang per kelompok sampel.

Abstract

A qualitative descriptive study conducted at SMPN 20 Kota Kupang aimed to describe, depict, explain, and provide a more detailed answer to the research problem by studying an individual, group, or event as thoroughly as possible. According to Leech, the principles of politeness in language include the maxim of tact, maxim of simplicity, maxim of agreement, maxim of appreciation, and maxim of sympathy. The researcher found 10 data containing 5 forms of compliance with the principles of politeness in language among teachers and students in Indonesian language learning, consisting of 2 data on the maxim of tact, 1 data on the maxim of simplicity, 2 data on the maxim of agreement, 3 data on the maxim of appreciation, and 1 data on the maxim of sympathy. Furthermore, the researcher found data containing 5 forms of violation of the principles of politeness in language among teachers and students in Indonesian language learning, consisting of 4 types of maxims, namely 1 data on the maxim of tact, 2 data on the maxim of appreciation, and 1 data on the maxim of agreement.

Abstract

The death of a person for the Loli community is a social and cultural event. It is not surprising that every person's death is usually mourned for days or weeks. In lamentations, expressions denoting the dead are often used. With the wailing it could be seen that the dead was a baby with the expression tollu 'egg' which had been broken. If a young person who dies is depicted with broken rice, his hair is still black, and his teeth are still white, while an old person is depicted with rotten roots and a rotten tree. That is a metaphor in the socio-cultural Loli community.

Abstract

The ability to write paragraphs in accordance with Indonesian language conventions remains a challenge for Grade II students at SD GMIT Bonipoi 3456, Kota Kupang, highlighting the need for an effective and engaging learning model to improve this skill. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Jigsaw type of cooperative learning model in enhancing students’ ability to write proper paragraphs. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method conducted in two cycles and involved 27 Grade II students. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques, with data collected through observations of teacher and student activities, interviews, learning outcome tests, and documentation. The results showed that the implementation of the Jigsaw model significantly improved students’ paragraph writing skills, as indicated by an increase in the percentage of learning mastery from 51.85% in Cycle I to 96.29% in Cycle II, and an increase in the average score from 55 to 95. Additionally, improvements were observed in the learning activities of both teachers and students. These findings indicate that the Jigsaw model not only enhances writing ability but also promotes active participation and a more enjoyable learning environment. The practical implication of this study is that teachers can apply the Jigsaw model as an alternative instructional strategy to effectively develop writing skills in Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level.
