Abstract

: Christian Religious Education (PAK) encourages the inclusion of religious and cultural values in its construction. The presence of cultural values still needs to be met; religion dominates the elements of PAK. This requires the correct pattern of PAK management. Mapalus cultural values and leadership philosophy in Minahasa are part of a promising heritage. But the educational contextualization approach needs to make the right formula. This research recommends a cultural approach model for education that contributes to the Minahasa context. By using an analytical-descriptive approach, this qualitative research takes references from articles, books, and interviews with several sources. As a result, the values of mapalus solidarity and communal leadership are cultural elements that can be incorporated into the construction of PAK with a cooperative-prolective inculturation approach.

Abstract

Education based on local wisdom plays an essential role in shaping students' character in alignment with cultural values. The Tri Hita Karana philosophy, a fundamental concept in Balinese society, emphasizes the balance of relationships between humans and God (Parahyangan), humans and their fellow beings (Pawongan), and humans and nature (Palemahan). This research aims to design and develop an ethnopedagogical concept based on Tri Hita Karana as the foundation of educational values. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with a constructive approach, involving literature studies, interviews with cultural figures and educators, as well as observations of educational practices in Bali. The findings indicate that the implementation of Tri Hita Karana values in education can be carried out through three main approaches: developing a curriculum based on local wisdom, integrating Tri Hita Karana values into existing subjects, and implementing educational programs oriented toward social, environmental, and spiritual balance. By incorporating the Tri Hita Karana philosophy into the education system, students not only acquire academic knowledge but also develop an awareness of the importance of maintaining harmony in life. In conclusion, ethnopedagogy based on Tri Hita Karana has great potential in strengthening character education and shaping a generation with balanced intellectual, social, and spiritual intelligence.

Abstract

The debate between the culture and religion in Minahasa invites attention. The culture considers the existence of religion as a threat and potentially could destroy indigenous cultural identity. On the flip side, the religion regards cultural activities as an ancient legacy that bears no significance to theological worldview and modern civilization. Adventism, a Protestant denomination that shares extra attention to food doctrine, performs inhospitality toward Minahasan culinary identity. Engagement to consuming animal’s flesh, and even extreme food such as pork, rat, bat, dog, cat, spices ingredients, cap tikus, and related festivals that involves potluck, however, against Adventist teaching. Therefore, this essay conducts exploration to grasp how Adventism teaching could perform hospitality toward Minahasan culinary identity. This research occupies a qualitative approach and equips journals, books, and other references to contribute to the tension. In conclusion, Adventism should define the culture as a social bonding and expression of Minahasa. Minahasan culinary identity is not a theological or religious concern; instead, it should be defined as a sociology reflection. By doing so, Adventism will able to perform hospitality toward the culture.

Abstract

Background: Radicalism and extremism have become phenomena that threaten social peace and political stability across various regions of the world. The teachings of Swami Vivekananda—a prominent Indian spiritual leader and philosopher—offer an alternative perspective for addressing these issues. In an increasingly polarized global context, Vivekananda’s thoughts on religious tolerance, pluralism, and the transformative power of education present a meaningful framework for confronting the roots of radicalization and violence. This study aims to explore Vivekananda’s views on radicalization by emphasizing the principle of ahimsa (nonviolence), appreciation of religious diversity, and education as a preventive tool against extremism.  Methods: Employing a qualitative approach, this research conducts a textual analysis of Vivekananda’s works, especially his renowned speeches, to identify core principles relevant to the problem of radicalization.  Findings: The findings reveal that Vivekananda strongly opposed all forms of radicalism and extremism, advocating instead for a deep respect for diversity, peaceful coexistence, and holistic education as a means of cultivating moral character. Conclusion: In conclusion, Vivekananda’s teachings have significant implications for both religious theory and social practice, offering a compassionate, interfaith-based approach to reducing the risk of radicalization in modern society. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study uniquely highlights Swami Vivekananda’s teachings as a humanistic and interfaith-based philosophical framework to counter radicalization through nonviolence, pluralism, and transformative education.
