Abstract

The basic concept of ethics and morality expressed by humans actually originates from the teachings of religion (theology) that view humans as creations of the divine, originating from what is holy. However, the issue of corruption and various forms of ethical and moral violations within the nation pose a significant threat that can destroy the pillars of national integrity in Indonesia, and this must be acknowledged by all Indonesians in order to find solutions to resolve and overcome it. This article is the result of qualitative research that examines the establishment of the ethical and moral dimensions for the future of the Indonesian nation. The data in this research was obtained through a study of literature related to the research theme and analyzed using content analysis. One way to build and maintain the ethics and morality of the Indonesian nation is by developing multicultural education. This will instill nationalism, patriotism, respect for human rights, and democratization. It is crucial to implement this in Indonesia immediately to prevent religious, ethnic, racial, and intergroup conflicts. To prevent various potential conflicts and future terrorism, multicultural education can be implemented starting from the family environment, schools, and society. In this regard, education largely depends on the exemplary behavior of parents at home, teachers at school, religious leaders, and community leaders in their respective communities. This begins with revising the curriculum and teaching materials, ensuring the availability of adequate teaching materials, and enhancing the ability of teachers and lecturers to understand multicultural education.

Abstract

Background: This study explores the religious legacy of Śiwa-Buddha at Kalibukbuk Temple in Buleleng, aiming to highlight the historical and religious aspects that contribute to its significance. The integration of Śiwa and Buddha traditions in Balinese religious culture reflects the island’s parallel religious landscape, particularly during the Majapahit era. Previous studies have discussed the blending of Śiwa and Buddha elements in various Balinese temples, yet there is limited focused research on Kalibukbuk Temple. This study addresses this gap by analyzing historical records and religious texts, shedding light on how the Śiwa-Buddha harmonization shaped local religious practices. Methods: The research utilizes a qualitative method with a historical-analytical approach, combining literature review, field observations, and interviews with religious practitioners. Data collection involved an examination of temple inscriptions, carvings, and architecture to interpret symbolic elements related to Śiwa-Buddha teachings. A comparative analysis with similar temples in Bali was also conducted to emphasize common patterns and distinctive characteristics. Findings: The findings indicate that Kalibukbuk Temple serves as a cultural and spiritual focal point in Buleleng, with Śiwa-Buddha elements prominently reflected in its architectural design, deity iconography, and ritual practices. The temple’s inscriptions reveal a deliberate effort to harmonize Śaivism and Buddhism, which suggests an inclusive religious policy of the era. Furthermore, the study shows that this religious harmonization at Kalibukbuk facilitated greater social cohesion within the local community by bridging religious differences. Conclusion: In conclusion, the study reveals that the Kalibukbuk Temple's religious legacy illustrates a successful integration of Śiwa-Buddha traditions, reflecting Bali’s broader harmonized religious identity. Novelty/Originality of this article: The novelty of this research lies in its focused examination of a lesser-studied temple, providing fresh insights into Balinese religious history. This study contributes to the understanding of how religious harmonization played a vital role in shaping cultural and religious continuity in Bali.

Abstract

Education based on local wisdom plays an essential role in shaping students' character in alignment with cultural values. The Tri Hita Karana philosophy, a fundamental concept in Balinese society, emphasizes the balance of relationships between humans and God (Parahyangan), humans and their fellow beings (Pawongan), and humans and nature (Palemahan). This research aims to design and develop an ethnopedagogical concept based on Tri Hita Karana as the foundation of educational values. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with a constructive approach, involving literature studies, interviews with cultural figures and educators, as well as observations of educational practices in Bali. The findings indicate that the implementation of Tri Hita Karana values in education can be carried out through three main approaches: developing a curriculum based on local wisdom, integrating Tri Hita Karana values into existing subjects, and implementing educational programs oriented toward social, environmental, and spiritual balance. By incorporating the Tri Hita Karana philosophy into the education system, students not only acquire academic knowledge but also develop an awareness of the importance of maintaining harmony in life. In conclusion, ethnopedagogy based on Tri Hita Karana has great potential in strengthening character education and shaping a generation with balanced intellectual, social, and spiritual intelligence.

This study aims to develop a travel package centered on Ancient Balinese Yoga, based at the Hindu State University of I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa Denpasar. The tourism package is designed to highlight Bali's spiritual heritage through yoga practices rooted in Hindu Dharma teachings and the local philosophy of the Watukaru tradition. The research employs an Ethnographic Content Analysis (ECA) approach to qualitative data obtained through in-depth interviews, observation of yoga practices, focus group discussions, and literature review. The findings reveal that Ancient Balinese Yoga possesses distinctive characteristics compared to other forms of yoga, particularly in its integration of movement (yogācāra), pranayama, mantra, and Balinese spiritual teachings. The development potential is reflected in four key aspects: uniqueness and authenticity, aesthetic value, spiritual value and character formation, as well as holistic health benefits. This study concludes that Ancient Balinese Yoga holds significant potential as an international spiritual tourism destination, contributing meaningfully to cultural preservation, the strengthening of Bali’s spiritual identity, and the advancement of educational and sustainable tourism.

Abstract

Background: Radicalism and extremism have become phenomena that threaten social peace and political stability across various regions of the world. The teachings of Swami Vivekananda—a prominent Indian spiritual leader and philosopher—offer an alternative perspective for addressing these issues. In an increasingly polarized global context, Vivekananda’s thoughts on religious tolerance, pluralism, and the transformative power of education present a meaningful framework for confronting the roots of radicalization and violence. This study aims to explore Vivekananda’s views on radicalization by emphasizing the principle of ahimsa (nonviolence), appreciation of religious diversity, and education as a preventive tool against extremism.  Methods: Employing a qualitative approach, this research conducts a textual analysis of Vivekananda’s works, especially his renowned speeches, to identify core principles relevant to the problem of radicalization.  Findings: The findings reveal that Vivekananda strongly opposed all forms of radicalism and extremism, advocating instead for a deep respect for diversity, peaceful coexistence, and holistic education as a means of cultivating moral character. Conclusion: In conclusion, Vivekananda’s teachings have significant implications for both religious theory and social practice, offering a compassionate, interfaith-based approach to reducing the risk of radicalization in modern society. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study uniquely highlights Swami Vivekananda’s teachings as a humanistic and interfaith-based philosophical framework to counter radicalization through nonviolence, pluralism, and transformative education.
