Abstract

Character education has become a crucial issue in the context of modern education, where schools are expected not only to produce intellectually competent graduates but also individuals with strong character. This study aims to analyze the impact of the Christian Religious Education (CRE) curriculum and teaching methods on character formation among students in Christian secondary schools. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects were CRE teachers and students selected purposively, while data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s model with source triangulation techniques to ensure validity. The findings indicate that the CRE curriculum has a significant influence on the development of students’ moral, spiritual, and social character. Participatory, contextual, and project-based teaching methods proved to be more effective in internalizing character values compared to lecture-based methods. The synergy between curriculum and teaching methods serves as a key factor in realizing transformative character education, enabling students not only to understand Christian values conceptually but also to embody them in daily life. The study recommends strengthening school policies, enhancing teacher competencies, and providing supportive facilities to ensure that character education based on CRE can be implemented more optimally and sustainably.

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of Christian values through Scout activities and its influence on students’ emotional intelligence and prosocial behavior. Employing a quantitative correlational design, the research involved junior high school students who actively participated in Scout programs embedded with Christian teachings. Data were collected through Likert-scale questionnaires measuring the levels of value integration, emotional intelligence (self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills), and prosocial behavior (helping, caring, and cooperation). The findings reveal that the integration of Christian values in Scout activities positively correlates with students’ emotional intelligence. Students who consistently engaged in value-based Scout practices demonstrated higher scores in emotional regulation and empathy. Furthermore, emotional intelligence was identified as a mediating factor that strengthened the relationship between value integration and prosocial behavior. Students with higher emotional intelligence exhibited greater willingness to help peers, cooperate in group tasks, and participate in community services. These results highlight the importance of integrating spiritual-ethical values in extracurricular activities as a holistic approach to character formation. Scout activities not only enhance technical and leadership skills but also foster emotional growth and moral motivation, enabling students to act prosocially as an expression of faith and service to others.

Abstract

In the context of urban church development, cell groups play a vital role in reaching souls and building a strong faith community. This study aims to explore the contribution of cell groups in urban church development strategies amidst complex social, cultural, and spiritual dynamics. The method used is the library research method. The results of the study indicate that cell groups are not only a place for individual spiritual growth, but also function as a bridge connecting the church with the surrounding community. Cell groups are able to create a supportive environment for members to share their faith, facilitate Bible studies, and carry out social service activities. In addition, the existence of cell groups contributes to improving the church's vision, so that evangelism and missions can be carried out more efficiently. This study also identifies challenges faced in implementing development strategies through cell groups, such as lack of member commitment and differences in vision between groups. However, with ongoing training and church support, cell groups can overcome these obstacles and become more effective in reaching new souls.
