Abstract

Forests are the largest natural wealth owned by Indonesia, which contains thousands of species of living things, both animals, plants and the human race. Forests must be protected and preserved by the caliphs of the earth for their survival. But the greedy attitude of humans makes forests in Indonesia arid because the environment does not have enough water absorption so that disasters occur everywhere and become a problem in Indonesia every year. The purpose of this research is to collect information based on data from the location and provide insights so that the public is aware of and understands the importance of preserving the beautiful natural environment in the Kendeng Mountains area which frequently occurs flash floods and landslides. This research method uses a literature study research method from two references, namely the primary reference, namely data collection which is carried out directly without intermediaries and secondary references obtained from documents, books, journals, etc. The results of this study indicate a relationship between environmental damage that occurs with human actions who lack awareness of environmental preservation. The Wonosoco people who live in the foothills of the Kendeng mountains still need socialization about the importance of preserving nature. The need that makes their excuse to cut trees so that the forest becomes deforested, but there must be an effort to replant it to reduce major risks.

Abstract

This research focuses on the application of ethnoecology-based environmental management in social studies learning as well as students' understanding of ethnoecology-based environmental management. Research data was obtained using observation, interviews, documentation and questionnaire methods. The research was carried out at SMP Negeri 4 Bae, Kudus Regency, with informants from the school principal, social studies teacher and students. The research results show that: 1) ethnoecology-based environmental management in social studies learning has implemented two habits; namely morning exemplary activities in the form of morning pickets which are carried out before learning begins by students according to the picket schedule, as well as learning in nature in the form of planting activities, making drainage and managing waste which are tailored to learning outcomes; and 2) students' understanding of ethnoecology-based environmental management, including: aspects of wisdom, independence, religion, creativity and healthy living. Wisdom can be seen through the application of 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle); independence through students being able to carry out class pickets without having to be instructed; Religious is seen from students being able to take advantage of the environment by upholding religious values; student creativity in managing used goods in craft activities or class competitions; and healthy lifestyle. With motivation and good examples from teachers, students will be created who understand and care about environmental management.
