Abstract

Aims: Dementia represents a critical public health issue. Family caregivers play a vital role in providing care due to limited healthcare resources, yet they face significant bio-psycho-social challenges that impact their resilience. Understanding the factors influencing caregiver resilience is crucial for developing targeted interventions. Objective: This study aimed to analyze factors associated with the resilience of family caregivers of PwD in Bekasi City, Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 42 family caregivers of PwD. Resilience was measured using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). Descriptive and bivariate analyses were performed to examine associations between demographic characteristics, caregiving duration, dementia knowledge, and resilience. Results: The majority of caregivers were female (71.4%), aged 18–59 years (83.3%), and unemployed (71.4%). Most caregivers had a moderate level of resilience (71.4%), while 28.6% demonstrated high resilience. Bivariate analysis showed no significant associations between resilience and demographic factors, including gender, age, education level, employment status, caregiving duration, and dementia-related knowledge (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Resilience among caregivers is not significantly influenced by demographic variables, highlighting the importance of focusing on psychosocial and environmental factors to strengthen resilience. Future efforts should prioritize community-based interventions, stress management programs, and social support systems to enhance the well-being of caregivers and the quality of care for PwD.

Abstract

Background: Peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) insertion is a common procedure performed by nurses for hospitalized children, but phlebitis—an inflammation of the vein—is a frequent complication. The response of the mother, as the child’s primary caregiver, plays a key role in the healing process when phlebitis occurs. Objective: This study aimed to explore mothers’ experiences and perceptions regarding the occurrence and management of phlebitis in their children during hospitalization. Methods: A descriptive phenomenological design was employed for this study, conducted between August and October 2023. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with sixteen mothers whose children had experienced phlebitis during their hospital stay. The interviews were transcribed verbatim, and data were analyzed using content analysis. Each participant validated the transcripts before analysis. Results: Three main themes emerged from the data: 1) Risk factors and causes of phlebitis; 2) Early detection and confirmation of phlebitis; and 3) Management of IV infusion occlusions. Conclusion: Although the causes and risk factors for phlebitis in children cannot be entirely avoided, early detection by mothers can reduce some risks. The study also identified gaps in nursing practice, particularly regarding the management of infusion occlusions, with some practices deviating from standard procedures. To improve outcomes, nurses should adhere to evidence-based protocols for maintaining IV patency and proactively educate mothers on recognizing signs of phlebitis. Strengthening nurse-mother communication and ensuring consistent implementation of best practices are essential for preventing and effectively managing phlebitis in pediatric patients.

Abstract

Abstract

DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.6033445

Abstract

The growth of older adults population is predicted to increase rapidly in the future, especially in developing countries including Indonesia. The increasing number of older adults every year can increase their dependency on productive groups, especially in older adults who experience cognitive and motor disorders. The use of assistive tools in older adults can be one of the right methods in preventing dependence and improving the quality of life of older adults. Virtual Reality (VR) is known to be one of the assistive tools that have the potential to help and have a positive impact on older adults with cognitive and motor disorders. The search method in this article uses a simple literature review using several databases and search websites including PubMed, Google Scholar, ACM Dl digital library, and ScienceDirect. The results of the analysis of 11 selected articles stated that the use of VR can help improve cognitive function, motor function, and can reduce the risk of falling in older adults so that in the end it has a positive effect on the quality of life of older adults. Given the high costs involved in implementing VR technology, the use of this assistive tool can be one of the programs that can be used in the management of care by health workers in the future.
