The number of class III, IV, and V SD Negeri Tuguran have the level of knowledge on oral health good categories as many as 51.7% and level of oral hygiene medium category as much as 55%. The results of the calculation of statistical analysis with Pearson Product Moment test by using a confidence level of 95% (? = 0.05) obtained results of ?-value = 0.000, because ?-value < ? then the Ho rejected and accepted Ha. The number of respondents was 80 students. The sample was divided into 40 respondents in the experimental group and 40 respondents in the control group. The data is obtained through a questionnaire. Data analysis using the Wilcox- on Signed Rank Test to find out repeated tests on two conditions and Mann Whitney Test to find out differences between two group. The knowledge level of the pretest experimental group was 90% in the wrong category. After the intervention, the knowledge level of the post-test increased to 85% in the first category. The knowledge level of the pretest of the control group was 55% in the medium grade, after intervention the knowledge level of the post-test increased to 5% in the excellent category and 95% in the medium category, with pretest and posttest analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showing both groups had significant differences with a value of p = 0.00 (p <0.05). Mann Whitney analysis shows the mean rank of the experimental group > control group, which is 59.03> 21.98. The knowledge level of teeth brushing after being given ed- ucation with flipchart media in elementary school students is increasing

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Missing or lost teeth after tooth extraction may lead to tooth decay and infection. Many cases of tooth loss will not be followed with prosthodontics or rehabilitative treatments. Patients might be aware of partial denture, however no concern to replace the missing teeth. Aims: This study was to determine the relationship between the levels of knowledge and interest in using the partial dentures. Methods: This study was an observational analytic survey with cross sectional design, conducted in October - November 2017. The work involved 60 patients who had pulled teeth at Kanina Dental Clinic, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, who had been selected using purposive sampling technique. Levels of knowledge and interest among the participants were assessed by a set of questionnaire. The data obtained was then analysed using Kendall's Tau test. Results: From the study, we found that 35 respondents had good knowledge and high interest to use partial dentures (58.3%), while the other 22 patients (40%) had been noted with less knowledge and poor maintenance. From Kendall's Tau test, we found a significant relationship between the patient's knowledge and partial removal denture maintenance of p value = 0.003. This study also highlights the role of patients' peer to their decision to use the removable partial dentures. Conclusion: Respondents may consider loosing teeth affected to their physical aesthetics, masticatory system, and speaking comfort. Data shows the higher knowledge to the benefits of partial dentures the higher their interest in using removable partial dentures after tooth extraction. Abstract

Elementary school children possess a high risk of dental caries. Based on the Basic Health Research 2018 data, the percentage of dental and oral health problems in the 10–14 year age group is 41.4%. Efforts to reduce dental and oral health problems in children are conducted by health promotion which can be implemented with flipchart media. Flipchart media can be an alternative; hence, elementary school children are able to better understand the importance of knowledge on maintaining oral health. The objective of this study is to determine the effect of promotion with flipcharts on the level of toothbrush knowledge of maintaining oral and dental health in children. This type of research was a quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest design with control group. The research location is at SD Muhammadiyah Banyuraden, Gamping, Sleman, Yogyakarta. The research sample is 80 children aged 8 to 12 years. The sampling technique employed purposive sampling. The influence variable is promotion with flipchart, and the affected variable is the level of knowledge in maintaining oral health. The treatment and control groups performed pretest and posttest to determine the level of knowledge of dental and oral care in elementary school children. The results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test analysis demonstrated that before and after promotion, the two groups owned a significant difference in toothbrush knowledge level (p=0.00). The results of the Mann Whitney test analysis display that the mean rank of children's toothbrush knowledge level using flipchart media is greater than PowerPoint media, which is 58.03> 20.98 so that it can be stated that the use of flipchart media is more effective than PowerPoint media. The conclusion of the study is that promotion by employing flipchart media can increase the level of toothbrush knowledge on maintaining oral and dental health in children.
