Abstract

The differences in thought between Abraham Geiger and Al-Ghazali in understanding Islam reflect two contrasting approaches to the Qur’an and the influence of tradition in religious education. This study aims to analyze how their intellectual perspectives have shaped theological development within their respective traditions and their impact on the broader study of religion. The research employs a qualitative method, focusing on an in-depth analysis of Geiger’s and Al-Ghazali’s works, alongside a comprehensive literature review to contextualize the historical and philosophical dimensions of their arguments. The findings indicate that Geiger, through his historical-critical approach, presents a more flexible interpretation of sacred texts, whereas Al-Ghazali upholds the authority and wisdom of the Qur’an as the primary foundation of Islamic knowledge. This intellectual discourse highlights the tension between rationalism and traditionalism in Islamic studies while illustrating the dynamic interplay between radicalism and religiosity within the Muslim world. Furthermore, this controversy underscores internal debates across various religious traditions and offers valuable insights into how interfaith dialogue can enhance the understanding of Islam and spirituality in the modern era. Ultimately, this study aims to contribute to a broader academic discourse on the interaction between religious tradition and critical thought in a global context.

Abstract

This study explores the comparative efficiency of Islamic general insurance providers in Indonesia, focusing on full-fledged companies versus Islamic business units (UUS), particularly in light of the mandatory spin-off policy. Covering the period from 2017 to 2022, we adopt a two-stage analytical approach. First, we apply a non-parametric method — Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) — to measure efficiency levels, using assets and business expenses as input variables, and net profit along with operating income as output variables. In the second stage, we employ Tobit regression to investigate the key drivers of efficiency, using the DEA scores as the dependent variable and Return on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), Current Ratio, and Risk-Based Capital (RBC) as explanatory factors. Our findings reveal that Islamic business units consistently outperform full-fledged Islamic insurers in achieving higher efficiency. Furthermore, ROA emerges as a significant positive determinant of efficiency, while the Current Ratio shows a significant negative impact. In contrast, ROE and RBC do not exhibit significant influence on efficiency levels. These insights contribute to the discourse on the operational dynamics of Islamic insurance, offering practical implications for regulators and industry stakeholders navigating the evolving Sharia insurance landscape in Indonesia.

Abstract

Breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) is a local fruit that has high productivity because it is spread in various regions, especially Indonesia. Parts of the breadfruit plant can be utilized as medicine. One of the developments of breadfruit leaves is the manufacture of granules. Granule is a product resulting from the granulation process which will then be used as a tablet preparation. The purpose of this study was to design and evaluate breadfruit leaf extract in granule form as a preparation that is practical, stable, and effective in providing therapeutic benefits derived from the bioactive content of breadfruit leaves. The method used in this research is experimental. The results of the physical characteristics of the water content test obtained a value of 4%, the stationary angle test obtained a value of 24 °, the flow velocity test obtained a value of 2.72 grams / second, the compressibility test obtained a value of 20%. It can be concluded that the test results of the physical characteristics of the granule and the granule physical stability test meet the requirements.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the legal aspects concerning the online sale of homemade food and beverage products without distribution permits from the Indonesian National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM), particularly in the city of Medan. This study employs a mixed legal research method, combining normative juridical and empirical approaches by reviewing relevant legislation and conducting interviews with small-scale business owners, BPOM officials, and representatives of the Medan Health Department. The findings indicate that the majority of homemade food and beverage entrepreneurs do not possess BPOM distribution permits due to a lack of understanding, limited financial resources, and the belief that such permits are unnecessary. Consequently, consumers are vulnerable to the safety of the products they consume. The state, through BPOM and local governments, must play an active role in providing both preventive and repressive legal protection, as well as in offering education and assistance to entrepreneurs to ensure the protection of consumer rights.

Abstract

Singkawang City is a city located in West Kalimantan Province, known for its significant population of ethnic Chinese residents, making it one of the largest ethnic Chinese communities in Indonesia. Cultural heritage from the ethnic Chinese community is easily found in Singkawang City, ranging from traditions, cuisine, to buildings with a distinct Chinese flair. This has led to Singkawang City joining the Indonesian Heritage Cities Network (JKPI), prompting the Singkawang City Government to begin planning areas that can be used to preserve Chinese cultural heritage. The planning of Chinese cultural areas in Singkawang City is a solution to existing issues. The existence of this design is intended to develop and preserve the existing Chinese cultural heritage in the urban area. The design method used is J.C. Jones' (1989) design method, which consists of ideas, information, analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and optimization. The design of this cultural center area will utilize the concept of a living museum. The results of the design will be divided into three spatial hierarchies: main spaces (traditional Chinese houses, performance buildings, thematic pedestrian paths), supporting spaces (public and green open spaces, informal economic zones, temporary festival zones), and complementary spaces (art and cultural installations, cultural facades for buildings, city parking, river bridges, public toilets). This design is realized by integrating existing cultural heritage into the area in accordance with the current physical conditions of the site, thereby creating an area that can interpret Chinese cultural values within it.
