Abstract

Reading comprehension is one of the essential language skills that elementary school students need to master, yet in practice many students still struggle to grasp the meaning of texts they have read. This study aims to examine and analyze the effectiveness of picture story media in improving elementary school students' reading comprehension skills through a systematic literature review approach. Article searches were conducted through Google Scholar, Garuda, and SINTA databases using relevant keywords, limited to publications from 2022 to 2026. The selection process followed the PRISMA flow consisting of identification, screening, eligibility assessment, and final article determination stages, resulting in 15 articles that met the inclusion criteria. The articles were analyzed qualitatively and descriptively by comparing research objectives, methods, subjects, and findings across studies. The results showed that picture story media consistently proved effective in improving reading comprehension across various research approaches, including classroom action research, experimental studies, and research and development. Significant improvements in learning outcomes were recorded in nearly all studies reviewed, with effect sizes ranging from moderate to very large. Several factors were found to influence the effectiveness of this media, including design quality, teacher guidance during the learning process, and the appropriateness of the content for students' grade level and characteristics. This study concludes that picture story media, whether in printed or digital form, is a relevant and effective choice for supporting reading comprehension learning in elementary schools, and recommends its broader implementation alongside further longitudinal research to assess long-term impacts on student literacy development.

Abstract

Elementary school science learning often faces obstacles due to abstract concepts that are difficult for students in the concrete operational phase to comprehend, which is further exacerbated by the high cost of factory-made instructional media. This study aims to map out the effectiveness and typology of utilizing organic and inorganic waste materials as alternative learning media in elementary science education. The method employed is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) by synthesized 29 accredited scientific articles published between 2021 and 2026 extracted from Google Scholar and DOAJ databases. The results indicate that recycling waste into science props offers multi-dimensional benefits. Economically, it provides a low-cost and independent solution to laboratory facility shortages. Pedagogically, concrete recycled media successfully reduces verbalism in teaching, enhances retention, and boosts students' cognitive comprehension. Furthermore, integrating waste into learning activities triggers an ecological impact by fostering environmental awareness and the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) habits from an early age. Professionally, this approach enhances teachers' motor skills and creativity in designing sustainable school waste management. In conclusion, the optimization of waste materials functions effectively as a strategic, interactive, and sustainable media alternative for science instruction in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study presents a literature review on the development of manipulative learning aids for Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) at the elementary school level, utilizing waste and recycled materials. The review synthesizes findings from 23 relevant articles to identify needs and assess the effectiveness of waste-based learning aids in enhancing fundamental movement skills specifically throwing and catching as well as the learning motivation of third-grade elementary students. Findings consistently indicate that modified aids made from waste materials (such as soft balls crafted from fabric scraps, foam, and waste paper) significantly increase student participation, reduce the fear of injury, and improve basic motor skill outcomes. The novelty of this research lies in its emphasis on a project-based participatory approach, wherein students act not merely as users but as active participants in assembling the learning aids from these waste materials. This approach is grounded in constructivist theory (Piaget, Vygotsky) and experiential learning theory (Kolb), positioning the process of developing the media itself as a meaningful learning experience.

Abstract

The literature review aims to analyze and synthesize research findings on the use of game-based learning media to increase elementary school students' interest in learning. The research method used is a systematic literature review that identifies, evaluates, and interprets relevant research findings from 25 indexed articles and other credible academic databases from 2021 to 2026. The analysis shows that game-based learning media, especially board games and digital game-based learning, are consistent and significantly improve learning interest, learning motivation, and student engagement in elementary schools. Games create an interactive, enjoyable, and contextually meaningful learning experience that triggers intrinsic motivation in students. Board game variations such as Snakes and Ladders, adventure board games, and map board games have proven effective across various subjects, including IPS. The conclusion is that game-based media is a highly recommended learning strategy for elementary school teachers, especially in the implementation of the Merdeka curriculum, which emphasizes active, joyful, and student-centered learning

Abstract

This study addresses the low mastery of basic basketball skills, especially shooting, among elementary school students caused by limited coordination, inappropriate equipment, and conventional learning methods. The purpose of this research is to analyze effective strategies for improving basic basketball movement skills in elementary schools. This study used a research and development approach and a systematic review of 13 relevant scientific articles. The findings show that audiovisual media, video tutorials, and innovative learning models such as manipulative movement, Direct Instruction, Project Based Learning, and Group Investigation are effective in improving students’ interest, understanding of basic techniques, learning completeness, and motor skills. In addition, coordination exercises and modified equipment support better skill development in accordance with elementary students’ motor characteristics. The study concludes that improving basic basketball skills in elementary school requires an integrated and holistic approach combining learning media, instructional models, and physical task modification.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the Inquiry Learning model on students’ learning motivation in IPAS instruction at the elementary school level. The study employed a qualitative approach using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, analyzing 15 scientific journal articles published between 2021 and 2026. Data collection was carried out using the documentation technique by selecting articles based on inclusion and exclusion criteria related to the Inquiry model, learning motivation, and IPAS learning in elementary schools. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of Inquiry Learning has a positive effect on increasing students’ learning motivation, particularly in IPAS lessons in elementary schools. Students become more active, enthusiastic, and highly curious, and are directly involved in the learning process through investigative activities, observation, experimentation, and problem-solving. Additionally, the use of supporting media such as videos, interactive media, and digital simulations helps strengthen students’ learning motivation. However, several challenges were identified in its implementation, such as time management, teacher readiness, and differences in student characteristics. The Inquiry Learning model can serve as an effective alternative approach to enhance student motivation in IPAS learning at the elementary school level.
