Abstract

CEFR has become a very significant framework for the design of language curricula and the assessment of language learning outcomes. The purpose of the study is to know the CEFR level of the graduate candidate at the Tertiary Level of Education. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The researchers took the data from Computer Science Faculty graduate candidates Universitas Duta Bangsa Surakarta in the academic year 2021/2022. There were 359 participants, 346 participants took the test, and 13 participants did not take test. The participant took TOEIC-Like test written by Shin’s book (2015) titled Pre-Intermediate Level Taking the TOEIC: Skills and Strategies, practice test one. The study showed that the highest TOEIC score was 930, and the participant was from the Technical Information study program. Based on TOEIC Test Mapping on the CEFR, the participant was at C1 level or mastery level. There were 12 participants at the B2 level or Vantage Level, and there were 35 participants at the B1 Level. Most participants were at the A2 level or Basic user because 241 participants got a 225-545 TOEIC score (A2) and there were 57 participants at the A1 level.

Abstract

This research analyzes maxim violation in the film All the Bright Places (2020). This movie talks about mental health, family, and relationships. The purpose of this research is to find what maxim violations are used in the movie All the Bright Places. The research method used is Descriptive Qualitative by using Grace Theory. The researcher analyzes the data thoroughly, with observations to find data results with explanations that will be compiled in the form of conversational dialogue. This study identifies the maxim violations of quality, quantity, relevance, and manner in the dialog between the main characters, Theodore Finch and Violet Markey. In this study, 9 violations of maxim quality, 3 violations of maxim quantity, 13 violations of maxim relevance and 6 violations of maxim manner were found.

Abstract

Tik Tok is a popular platform for people to influence other by sharing status or short-form videos. the purposes of this study is to explore how visual signs, such as gold jewellery and other luxury items, are utilized in the context of flaunting wealth, and how meanings related to wealth and social status are conveyed and understood by employing the elements of Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotics. The method of the study is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Semiotic analysis is used to analyze captions, video transcripts, videos, post images, and the interpretation of the messages conveyed in the images from the TikTok account @mirahayati91. The result of the study shows that the elements of Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotics comprises three main elements that can be applied to analyse signs within a given content, including the gold flaunting content on Mira Hayati's TikTok account. The videos posted on @mirahayati91 attract significant public attention, as each upload elicits responses from online communities, resulting in both positive and negative comments. This dynamic showcases how Mira Hayati’s portrayal of wealth sparks diverse reactions, reflecting broader societal views on success, luxury, and social status. The conclution is Through semiotic analysis, the researcher successfully revealed the meanings behind the images and videos uploaded on the TikTok account @mirahayati91.
