Abstract

Writing is the process to bring concentration to the real situation, how the students focus on the ideas and elaborate in the real context. writing is not only arranging words into good sentences, but also knowing the function, meaning, and components of each word. this technique can help students develop their knowledge, think critically, and create ideas in the sentences. Students need a technique to improve their writing skills. Following this, the mind mapping technique is used to help students to improve their writing skills. The quasi-experimental research method involved two groups, namely the experimental and the control class. Both classes were given a pre-test at the beginning. Then, the experimental group was taught using mind mapping techniques while the control group was taught without mind mapping techniques. Then, this research gave the instrument in the last session of this study, both groups were given a post-test. Then for data collection, researchers used a written test and data analysis using a t-test. It proves that there was a significant score on the t-test and the mean score of the experimental class and control class. In the experimental class score is 3.0 and the mean is 28.25. While in the control class, the t-test score is 3.0 and the mean score is 25.00. It proves that mind mapping techniques are an effective way to help students to overcome problems such as nervousness and not being confident to improve their writing skills, it also helps the students to organize systematic ideas and make them easy meaning to understand.

Abstract

The phenomenon of online gaming is certainly a concern for all parents. Not only in Indonesia but also around the world. Ternate North Maluku is one of the cities in Indonesia that became the site of this current study, which explains the phenomenon of online games taking place and their role in children's autonomous English learning. This study is located in Jerbus Village, South Ternate. To provide more honest and accurate data, the interviews were semi-structured with 11 children aged 7 to 12 years old. Employing a descriptive qualitative design, the data analysis and interpretation used raw data, preparing data for analysis, collecting the data on the computer, coding data, relating themes, and interpreting the meaning of themes and descriptions (Creswell, 2009, p. 185). The results of this study explain that online games encourage children to learn English independently without any coercion from others. It also helps them learn English naturally and contributes to children's English acquisition. This research conclusion is that online games have so far only been considered to bring negative influences to children who have been addicted, such as the absence of socialization, lack of social interaction, affecting the quality of learning, and many other negative influences. This current study proves that online games also have a positive side. The positive role is to replace lost face-to-face social interaction with online interaction. Abstract

The study aims to obtain empirical data on the effectiveness of using the Snake and Ladder game in teaching English to second-grade students at SMAN 1 Kota Tidore. The study was conducted in experimental and control classes. There were 60 participants. The study was administered over three treatments. During the treatments, classes were taught English with the same content in different ways; the experimental class was taught using the Snake and Ladder game, while the control class was taught using the conventional method. The instrument used in this study was an oral test with a speaking rubric. The result stated that the post-test mean score of the experimental class was 80.43, while the post-test mean score of the control class was 70.73. The result of statistical hypothesis testing by using an independent sample t-test found that at the degree of significance of 5% (α = 0.05), the t-value was 2.247 while the t-table was 2.001, or t-value > t-table. Therefore, H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. Furthermore, Cohen's formulation was used for the effect size of the Snake and Ladder, and the result was 0.24. Therefore, it is concluded that teaching English using the Snake and Ladder game is effective in teaching English.

Abstract

Writing is a skill to express ideas and thoughts to make a message explicit. To arrange an idea in written text the students’ need soft skill in completing a text; grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary are the most important aspect in the writing skill that should be mastered by the students organizing the ideas. To attain the students' comprehend and overcome the obstacles in the writing skill, the researchers implementing a roundtable technique in the teaching process.The research aims to investigate the efficacy of the roundtable technique on EFL students' writing skills. Then, the researchers implement quasi-experimental design, Totally 46 students in each class. In addition, the researchers implement writing test as research instrument. The finding showed that the Roundtable technique is an effective way to improve students' writing skills and can stimulate students' attention to the writing skills. In addition, students found their identity and were more confident in elaborating the good ideas.  The two classes proved that the significance of the experimental class is higher than the control and the significant score is 0.0. This means that the roundtable technique is an effective way to implement in the classroom. It can encourage students to more focus on the issue and update the new information to improve their writing skills. Moreover, it is an enjoyable technique to implement in the classroom to create a good atmosphere and can improve students' attention in the writing process. Roundtable As a recommended solution to the English teachers and lecturers in prioritize to students writing skills. These is design to specifically improve students' grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary mastery in writing skills.
