Abstract

ABSTRACT Postpartum mothers with twin babies are in a critical condition in terms of maternal health because of their need to adapt to the presence of two babies at once. To describe nursing processes in five cases of postpartum mothers with twin babies. We reported nursing processes in five cases of postpartum mothers with twin babies, addressing the nursing care and self-care applied and referring to the theory of unpleasant symptoms. The five mothers presented to two hospitals in Jakarta, Indonesia.  During three days of treatment, the postpartum mothers were able to perform regular self-care without assistance, even though their self-management and time management were not optimal. However, they suffered unpleasant symptoms, including postpartum discomfort, breast engorgement, lack of support from husbands, and anxiety. Interventions were conducted via relaxation techniques, lactation management, and health education related to maternal and infant care for twin babies, together with family involvement and the provision of support from health-care providers and assistants. Time and self-management skills in postpartum mothers with twin babies need to be strengthened. Health-care providers are recommended to facilitate family assistance while the mother is in the hospital postpartum ward and to provide home visits as a form of follow-up. Keywords: Postpartum, Self-Care, Twin Babies, Unpleasant Symptoms

Abstract

Postpartum mothers with twins are more prone to mental health problems, particularly anxiety. However, research regarding the appropriate interventions to overcome anxiety in postpartum mothers with twins is limited. Anxiety has an impact on the health of both mother and baby. We conducted a pilot study to minimize the risks to mothers and babies, which was supportive postpartum care (SPC). The study was performed to five postpartum mothers with twins during hospitalization. SPC was employed by providing physical support, which was in the form of breast care and oxytocin massage, psychological support in the form of relaxation techniques, information support in the form of education, and advocacy support in the form of husband involvement. This method was effective for postpartum mothers with twins in reducing anxiety, increasing breastfeeding effectiveness, increasing knowledge, and improving the husband’s involvement in care. This study showed that SPC can reduce postpartum anxiety among postpartum mothers with twins effectively. A very good increase of LATCH score and knowledge were reported in 3 out of 5 mothers. Families, especially husbands, were advised to continue providing care support through the role division at home.

Abstract

Background: One of the most effective strategies for preventing cervical cancer is screening. In developing countries, the implementation and utilization of cervical cancer screening programs remain low. Educational interventions represent one strategy to increase participation in cervical cancer screening. Objective: This review aimed to identify educational interventions used to increase participation in cervical cancer screening. Methods: The inclusion criteria comprised studies that employed educational interventions to increase participation in cervical cancer screening. Literature searches were conducted in three databases—PubMed, Scopus, and ProQuest—and one search engine, ScienceDirect, for publications from 2020 to 2025. This review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Methodological quality was assessed using the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist for Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs). Results: A total of 10 studies involving 3,882 women who participated in educational interventions for cervical cancer screening were included. All included studies reported that educational interventions—delivered through face-to-face or digital approaches, and based on behavioral theories, community-based education, and couple-based education—were associated with improvements in knowledge, attitudes, risk perception, self-efficacy, and participation in cervical cancer screening. Based on the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist for RCTs, most studies demonstrated moderate to high methodological quality. Conclusion: Couple-based education and counselling demonstrate high potential for implementation in Indonesia. This educational approach may help address cultural barriers and limited family support, which are known to hinder participation in cervical cancer screening.
