Abstract

This article uses discourse analysis to examine dolanan songs such as Sluku-Sluku Bathok, Cublak-Cublak Suweng, Lir-Ilir, Gundul-Gundul Pacul, and Kloso Bedah. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method so that the data can be described as clearly and objectively as possible by the researchers' subjective views. To avoid bias on the validity of the research results, triangulation was carried out by comparing the researchers' interpretations with some supporting literature. The result of this research is that five dolanan songs contain many meanings. The songs offer a deep meaning about the condition of the environment that grows around it to increase the value of character, good behavior, the environment - especially cleanliness, health, and religious life. The character values are conveyed through satire or humor. Dolanan songs have meanings, both explicit and implicit, about this life. These songs are neatly arranged both in terms of structural both physically and mentally. Javanese children's songs contain poetry filled with language games, such as alliteration, assonance, poetry, and rhythm.

Abstract

The sociolinguistic paradigm forms the background of this study. Code switching in advertisements is an interesting thing because it actually shows the interrelation between major and minor languages which are in Indonesian and Javanese. On the other hand, code switching is a linguistic phenomenon that is closely related to certain social situations. The object in this study is the Tokopedia advertisement "Berani Tentukan Mimpi: Lanjutkan Mimpi atau Ubah Mimpi". The method of the study is qualitative based on video advertisements in the Youtube channel. Based on the results of the analysis, it is concluded that the linguistic event (code switching) is Tokopedia's strategy in imaging itself, increasing the interest of producers and consumers in making transactions in the marketplace at once.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines how nine Indonesian online outlets transformed the 20 August 2025 Taman Flora–Bratang traffic accident in Surabaya into stabilised news narratives. Using Theo van Leeuwen’s socio-semiotic framework and a mixed-methods Critical Discourse Analysis, we ask: (1) how actors, actions, time–space, purposes, and legitimations are added or removed; (2) how victims, the car/driver, police, and “road/space” are portrayed (naming, genericisation, activation/passivation, inclusion/exclusion); and (3) which authorisation, moral evaluation, rationalisation, and mythopoesis assign responsibility under breaking-news uncertainty. A parallel, convergent analysis treated sentences (including headlines) as units across nine same-day reports. Quantitatively, we tracked inclusion/exclusion, activation/passivation, gender marking, and legitimation types per sentence; qualitatively, we traced outlet-level patterns via a CDA Matrix, joint displays (actor × legitimation), and a recontextualisation flow. Double-coding (Cohen’s κ template) audited heuristic labels, with discrepancies resolved interpretively. Three recurring narrative packages emerged: (i) a police-led “two-motor” template that simplifies causality and backgrounds the car/driver; (ii) a BPBD-led procedural timeline that individualises the driver yet defers legal judgment; and (iii) a defensive naming-then-denial pattern specifying the car (even plate/model) while disassociating it via surface forensic cues. Early texts privilege authorisation (police/BPBD voice) and rationalisation (procedural/technical accounts); moral cues and mythopoetic framings surface subtly in headlines. Social-actor design personalises/feminises the deceased and functionalises authorities, pre-structuring responsibility maps.
