Abstract

Gus Yaqut's statement regarding Surat Edaran Nomor 5 Tahun 2022 tentang Pedoman Penggunaan Pengeras Suara di Masjid dan Musala garnered controversy. The reason is that the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia is considered to be comparing the call to prayer with the barking of dogs. The public reacted: the chairman of GP Ansor was accused of blasphemy against Islam. This study examines the statement of the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia using the Piercian semiotic approach. Using Morris's scheme of sign systems, this study examines verbal-linguistic facts that are considered fatal. The research method used is qualitative with a note-taking technique. The results of the data analysis are described descriptively. The research data in the form of syntagms were tested as semiotic facts, both grammatically and pragmatically meaningful. The results showed that from the three categories of Morris semiotics (syntax, semantics, and pragmatics) which were operationalized in the statement of the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, there was no fact of blasphemy. The syntactic relation between “adhan” and “dog barking” is a grammatical construction as an analogy which in public rhetoric is used to express “audiotive noise” in society. The analogy is not a comparison (binary) to make an alignment but concretizes a statement so that the message is understood easily by the recipient of the message. The analogy is carried out so that the substance of the Circular Letter of the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia is accepted by the public. Meanwhile, the facts that have happened show that the opposite confirms that the language entity in the community is very dynamic, wild, and sometimes acrobatic from the initial goal.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the figure of feminine resistance by depicting a wife's life in Catatan Hati Seorang Istri (Notes of a Wife's Heart). In Asma Nadia's prose, the narrative highlights domestic problems often experienced by third-world women who usually are faced with a dilemma between matters of domestic space and access to public space. This article refers to Naomi Wolf's view that feminism must fulfill if it is to be called a resistance movement: independence, altruism, persistence, courage, resilience, and willingness to sacrifice. The results of the study show that Wolf's view of power feminism is in the form of women's resistance figures, namely: (1) awareness of the power of women as independent women; (2) the way of thinking and acting of female characters who prioritize the interests of their husbands and children rather than their interests as strength; (3) firm and sure of the chosen decision; (4) dare to voice opinions on their choices; (5) the struggle of a woman when faced with a dilemma in the domestic and public spheres; and (6) sacrifice for the decision of the path of his own choice of life.

Abstract

This article explores personality dynamics in Indonesian literature by taking the theme of death in the novel Ziarah by Iwan Simatupang (1969). The concept of 'Thanatos and Eros' from Freudian psychoanalytic research is understood as the relationship between instincts in human behavior, which are described as conflicting settings, namely the death instinct and the life instinct. This research uses a qualitative description method and a content analysis method in the form of presenting data in the form of words and sentences taken from the novel Ziarah by Iwan Simatupang (1969) on the aspects of Thanatos (death instinct), eros (life instinct) and anxitas (anxiety). The research techniques used are literature review, note-taking, and data processing techniques. Thus, research into personality dynamics in the novel Ziarah by Iwan Simatupang obtained six data on Thanatos (death instinct), five data on eros (life instinct), and one data on anxitas (anxiety). Thanatos (death instinct) data emphasizes the death instinct in the form of aggression and suicidal actions in the Painter character, the Young and Old Operative character, and the Mayor character. The eros data (life instinct) emphasizes the sexual instinct in the painter's characters and the non-sexual instinct (lamentation poetry) in fulfilling physical needs such as feelings of hunger, thirst, work, and others. Anxiety data emphasizes the anxiety of death in the painter's character.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas representasi Suroboyoan dalam tayangan yang bertajuk Lara Ati yang diekspos secara luas oleh Bayu Skak melalui lokadarama. Budaya Arekan yang menjadi fokus dalam tontonan tidak hanya dianggap sebagai elemen pelengkap, tetapi sebagai unsur integral yang membentuk keutuhan karya dengan unsur-unsur kulturalnya. Suroboyoan dalam konteks tayangan ini diartikan sebagai pergeseran orientasi sineas Indonesia yang awalnya sangat Jakartasentris, beralih menjadi karya-karya yang mengakomodir keberagaman lokal sebagai wajah sejati Indonesia. Selain itu, Suroboyoan dalam Lara Ati  juga diinterpretasikan sebagai representasi budaya Arek, mencerminkan kekhasan budaya Jawa Timur, yang ternyata diterima dengan positif oleh penonton sinema di Indonesia. Kondisi ini dianggap sebagai sinyal positif bagi masa depan tontonan Indonesia, berkontribusi pada pengayaan khazanah tontonan yang diharapkan dapat idealnya menampilkan keberagaman karya. Dalam penelitian ini, tontonan dianggap sebagai bentuk representasi melalui citra visual, di mana konsep representasi berfokus pada penyampaian pesan melalui citra visual dalam setiap adegan. Dengan menggunakan paradigma Stuart-Hall tentang representasi, artikel ini mengaitkan representasi warna lokal (budaya Arek) dalam Lara Ati dengan tiga elemen konseptual: (a) reflektif, (b) intensional, dan (c) kontruksionis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Bayu Skak secara reflektif menyoroti latar penceritaan (Surabaya) melalui budaya ludruk dan rujak cingur sebagai simbol ikonik. Pada tingkat intensional, eksplorasi sudut-sudut Surabaya yang jarang terlihat, seperti kampung Peneleh, dijadikan latar utama peristiwa. Pada tingkat konstruksionis, terlihat dalam konstruksi linguistik pelakon, seperti penggunaan vocal “u” sebagai penekanan kata yang menjadi ciri khas bahasa Arek Suroboyoan, dan penggunaan kosakata serta logat campuran linguistik yang dihasilkan oleh Bayu Skak dalam karyanya.

Abstract

AbstrakMeski membawa dampak buruk bagi mentalitas seseorang, nyatanya pelaku pelecehan seksual makin merajalela. Alih-alih memikirkan kondisi korban yang amat terpuruk dengan beberapa kemungkinan bisa saja terjadi: trauma, introver bahkan bunuh diri. Artikel ini membahas fenomena catcalling dalam Dear David yang mengangkat isu orientasi seksual tiga remaja sekolah. Peran usia remaja mendominasi adanya berbagai tindakan seksual serta pengeksplorannya. Dalam perkembangannya, film juga menjadi cermin realita kehidupan bermasyarakat seperti Dear David memberikan wajah bahwa pelecehan tidak hanya berupa sentuhan fisik. Selain itu, Lucky Kuswandi juga mengangkat karakter laki-laki yang bisa menjadi korban pelecehan. Film tersebut dianalisis menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan paradigma kritis untuk mengetahui catcalling sebagai bentuk pelecehan verbal menggunakan teori semiotika John Fiske. Rumusan masalah yang diangkat peneliti adalah bagaimana bentuk penerapan level semiotika yang diungkapkan Fiske dalam objek visual film Dear David. Fiske menyebutkan tanda terdiri dari tiga level: level realitas, level representasi, dan level ideologi. Hasil penelitian dengan teknik dokumentasi dan observasi menunjukkan bahwa film yang rilis pada Februari 2023 ini merepresentasikan bentuk catcalling sebagai pelecehan verbal berupa bercanda, tatapan mata menggoda, menyampaikan atau menanyakan, mengkritik atau mengomentari fisik lawan maupun sesama jenis yang mengarah pada seksualitas sehingga membuat orang tidak nyaman di depan publik.

Abstract

Abstract: This article discusses the news coverage of the Gaza conflict presented in Arabic. News narratives are understood as ideological, political, non-neutral discourse practices and so on. This study is a critical discourse analysis of news from two mainstream news agencies representing the Middle East (Al-Jazeera Arabic) and the West (BBC Arabic) regarding the war that has been going on since October 7, 2023. The paradigm used in this study is socio-semantics initiated by Theo van Leeweun. News narratives, for van Leeweun, are a field for social actors to seize the public discourse stage. There are two main strategies called (a) exclusion and (b) inclusion that are always carried out by the editorial team in their journalistic work. The findings that can be concluded are that BBC Arabic, as a representation of Western society, tends to side with Israel and ignores Palestinian civilians. On the other hand, Al-Jazeera Arabic is more proportional (balanced) in telling the story of the events involving Palestine-Israel. Al-Jazeera Arabic is also more humanistic as seen from how they focus more on the weak side, namely the Gaza civilians who are the real victims of the war.Keywords: Gaza, BBC Arabic, Al-Jazeera Arabic, Critical Discourse Analysis, Theo van LeeweunAbstrak: Artikel ini membahas pemberitaan konflik Gaza yang disajikan dalam bahasa Arab. Narasi berita dipahami sebagai praktik wacana yang ideologis, politis, tidak netral dan sebagainya. Penelitian ini merupakan analisis wacana kritis (critical discourse analysis) terhadap pemberitaan yang bersumber dari dua kantor berita arus utama yang mewakili Timur Tengah (Al-Jazeera Arabic) dan Barat (BBC Arabic) seputar perang yang berlangsung sejak 7 Oktober 2023 silam. Paradigma yang diteladani dalam studi ini adalah sosio-semantik yang digagas oleh Theo van Leeweun. Narasi berita, bagi van Leeweun, adalah medan aktor-aktor sosial merebut panggung publik wacana. Terdapat dua strategi utama yang disebut (a) eksklusi dan (b) inklusi yang senantiasa dilakukan oleh redaksi dalam kerja jurnalisme mereka. Temuan yang bisa disimpulkan BBC Arabic, sebagai representasi masyarakat Barat cenderung berpihak ke Israel dan mengabaikan warga sipil Palestina. Sebaliknya, Al-Jazeera Arabic lebih proposional (berimbang) dalam mengisahkan peristiwa yang melibatkan Palestina-Israel tersebut. Al-Jazeera Arabic juga lebih humanis dilihat dari bagaimana mereka lebih menitikberatkan pada pihak yang lemah, yakni masyarkat sipil Gaza yang menjadi korban sesungguhnya dari perang tersebut.Kata Kunci: Gaza, BBC Arabic, Al-Jazeera Arabic, Analisis Wacana Kritis, Theo van Leeweun

Abstract

This study describes several stories in the mystical land of Java and are still a distinctive culture of people's lives during the colonial period in the Story of the Land of Java. The land of Java has many mystery stories that will not be finished overnight. Mysterious figures, mystical rituals and haunted places, always make us curious. This research uses the fantastic theory of Tzvetan Todorov and the important thing from what Todorov says is that the readers' doubts in the two camps of doubt are before the first condition in fantastical. This phenomenon can be felt by the reader in the two estuaries of imagination and reality.According to Djokosujatmo (2005) fantastic is a doubt that is felt by humans who only know natural law, when facing a phenomenon that looks supernatural in life. we can draw the conclusion that the work is able to show the existence of dominant fantastical stories from motifs, plots, themes, characters, space, time and realistic decor. All of these elements move towards a single element that unites a fantastic story that manifests its phenomena illogically and under the expectations of its readers.

Abstract

This article discusses the shift in the image of robes from Muslim clothing (sacred or religious) to casual clothing (profane or everyday). In the context of this article, the robes produced by Zaafer Indonesia represent a change in the orientation of Indonesian Muslim OOTD from initially tending to be conservative to becoming fashionable and stylish. In this research, clothing is considered a complex sign system. On a piece of clothing, there is a message that the wearer wants to convey. By using the Saussurean semiology paradigm, this article understands that in clothing there is a system of signifiers and signifieds. Clothing is a language (language of fashion) that is built from the language and parole system. The research results show several semiotics in the robes of Zaafer Indonesia products. There is Saussure's synchronic linguistic concept, which is related to several dichotomies, such as signifier, signified, parole, and langue

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis konsep integral dalam kalkulus serta penerapannya dalam kehidupan sehari-hari melalui pendekatan tinjauan pustaka kontekstual-tematik. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi literatur yang didasarkan pada berbagai sumber ilmiah relevan, termasuk jurnal nasional dan internasional serta buku ajar kalkulus terapan. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa konsep integral tidak hanya penting dalam konteks akademik, tetapi juga memiliki peran praktis di berbagai bidang seperti transportasi (menghitung jarak dari grafik kecepatan terhadap waktu), ekonomi (akumulasi keuntungan), ilmu lingkungan (mengukur limbah atau polusi), dan kesehatan (menentukan dosis obat berdasarkan laju penyerapan). Kebaruan dari penelitian ini terletak pada pendekatan klasifikasi tematik dan aplikatif yang belum banyak dibahas secara sistematis dalam literatur sebelumnya. Tinjauan ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan literasi matematis fungsional dan memberikan ilustrasi konkret bahwa konsep integral bersifat kontekstual dan aplikatif dalam kehidupan modern.

Abstract

This study examines how nine Indonesian online outlets transformed the 20 August 2025 Taman Flora–Bratang traffic accident in Surabaya into stabilised news narratives. Using Theo van Leeuwen’s socio-semiotic framework and a mixed-methods Critical Discourse Analysis, we ask: (1) how actors, actions, time–space, purposes, and legitimations are added or removed; (2) how victims, the car/driver, police, and “road/space” are portrayed (naming, genericisation, activation/passivation, inclusion/exclusion); and (3) which authorisation, moral evaluation, rationalisation, and mythopoesis assign responsibility under breaking-news uncertainty. A parallel, convergent analysis treated sentences (including headlines) as units across nine same-day reports. Quantitatively, we tracked inclusion/exclusion, activation/passivation, gender marking, and legitimation types per sentence; qualitatively, we traced outlet-level patterns via a CDA Matrix, joint displays (actor × legitimation), and a recontextualisation flow. Double-coding (Cohen’s κ template) audited heuristic labels, with discrepancies resolved interpretively. Three recurring narrative packages emerged: (i) a police-led “two-motor” template that simplifies causality and backgrounds the car/driver; (ii) a BPBD-led procedural timeline that individualises the driver yet defers legal judgment; and (iii) a defensive naming-then-denial pattern specifying the car (even plate/model) while disassociating it via surface forensic cues. Early texts privilege authorisation (police/BPBD voice) and rationalisation (procedural/technical accounts); moral cues and mythopoetic framings surface subtly in headlines. Social-actor design personalises/feminises the deceased and functionalises authorities, pre-structuring responsibility maps.
