Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out students’ perception toward morning vocabulary activity at SMP Nurul Ikhlas Padang Panjang. This research used descriptive quantitative methods with questionnaire and interview to obtain the data. Both instruments are divided into three aspects; cognitive, affective and conative that related to students’ perception toward morning vocabulary activity. The sample in this research were 67 students of grade VIII at SMP Nurul Ikhlas Padang Panjang. The researcher used descriptive statistical analysis in SPSS and Miles and Hubermans’s data Theory to analyzed the data from the instrument. Based on the findings from the questionnaire, shows that most of students gave strongly positive perception with the total average was 3,46. These results were strengthened by the results of interview data that almost all students stated that morning vocabulary activity was able to increase students' vocabulary and improve several students' skills in English, which are speaking, listening and reading.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify the effectiveness of FluentU application in improving students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth-grade students. This is a pre-experimental research design. The population of the study was tenth-grade students at SMA N 2 Sungai Limau. The population consist of 171 students that are classified into five classes. X FASE E 5 was selected as a sample through cluster random sampling method. The total number of the students in this class is 34 students. The research is conducted in six meetings. The researcher used pre-test and post-test to collect the data. The instrument of this research is vocabulary test. There are 25 questions with multiple choice questions. The result of the study shows that the significant value of the two-tailed paired sample t-test was less than 0.05. It means that the null hypothesis (H0) in this research was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. It proved that the use of FluentU application to improve students’ vocabulary mastery is effective.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine students' attitude in joining English course. The researcher used descriptive quantitative methods with questionnaire to get answers about students’ attitude. The purpose of this study is to find out what students' attitudes towards joining English courses are. The sample of this research was 30 students at SMAN 2 Painan. There were 30 statements that students had to fill in by choosing answers between strongly agree, agree, disagree, and strongly disagree. The findings show that of the 30 students who were sampled for the English course, most students gave a positive attitude in attending the English course. In particular, the positivity of the cognitive component with ten statements with an average of 3.30 (82.50%), the positivity of the affective component with eight statements with an average of 3.15 (78.85%), and the positivity of statements regarding conative component with twelve statements with an average of 3.18 (79.51%). From the results of this research, it can be concluded that students' attitude in joining English course based on the three components which are cognitive, affective, and conative reveal a positive attitude. Through this research, the findings also concluded that English courses have many benefits, especially for students who have joined English course in improving their English.

Abstract

One of the effective strategies to improve writing skills is Collaborative Writing (CW). In the CW process, group members will engage and interact in the process of writing a text. Hence, student engagement becomes an important point that needs to be studied. Based on the EWT (Engagement with the Task) model from Philip and Duchesne, there are 4 dimensions of student engagement, namely cognitive, affective, attitudinal and social engagement. This research aims to analyze students' cognitive, affective, behavioral and social engagement in learning academic writing using collaborative writing method. Based on this objective, the appropriate research design is qualitative research using observation as a data collection technique and the instruments used are observation sheets and field notes supported by video recording during the learning process. From the results of the analysis conducted, it was found that during Collaborative Writing with peers the majority of participants in this study were involved cognitively, affectively and attitudinally.  In terms of social engagement, the patterns of all pairs were collaborative and expert/novice relationship

Abstract

Loan approval prediction is an important task in the financial sector, which helps banking institutions and lenders make informed decisions regarding loan applications. This research compares the performance of two machine learning algorithms, namely K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) and Random Forest (RF), in the context of loan approval prediction. The research methodology includes data collection, pre-processing, modeling, and evaluation. The analysis results showed that the Random Forest model performed better overall than KNN, with more true positives and true negatives, and fewer false positives and false negatives. In addition, Random Forest recorded higher accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score values. These findings provide valuable insights for financial institutions in improving credit risk management strategies and decision-making regarding loan applications.

Abstract

This research investigates students' perceptions toward the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in English speaking classes among the English Department students at Universitas Negeri Padang in the academic year 2024/2025. The background arises from the need to address the challenges in speaking skills, such as low confidence, fear of making mistakes, and limited vocabulary, and how PjBL may help mitigate these issues through real-world task engagement. The study used a descriptive quantitative method with a questionnaire distributed to 26 students. The instrument was based on three perceptual factors by Robbins & Judge (2013): perceiver, target, and situation, covering 12 elements. The findings reveal that students hold a very positive perception of the implementation of PjBL. The majority agreed that PjBL improved motivation, collaboration, engagement, and speaking fluency. Students also appreciated the practical value of PjBL in developing their communication, group interaction, and confidence. Abstract

Administrasi sekolah dan keuangan merupakan aspek penting dalam mendukung keberlangsungan dan akuntabilitas lembaga pendidikan. Namun, dalam praktiknya masih banyak lembaga pendidikan nonformal yang menghadapi kendala dalam pengelolaan administrasi karena keterbatasan sumber daya manusia, sistem pencatatan yang belum terorganisir, serta kurangnya pemanfaatan teknologi sederhana dalam tata kelola. Yayasan Ahsan Syamil sebagai salah satu lembaga pendidikan nonformal masih menghadapi permasalahan dalam penataan berkas administrasi, penyusunan laporan keuangan, serta pengolahan data siswa. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pendampingan dalam pengelolaan administrasi sekolah dan keuangan sehingga dapat meningkatkan efisiensi dan akurasi tata kelola lembaga. Metode pelaksanaan dilakukan melalui beberapa tahap, yaitu analisis kebutuhan, penataan berkas administrasi, pendampingan rekapitulasi pembayaran SPP, penyusunan daftar gaji karyawan, serta pendampingan pengisian instrumen survei lingkungan belajar. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kerapian dan keteraturan dalam pengelolaan dokumen, efisiensi waktu dalam penyusunan laporan keuangan, serta meningkatnya keterampilan staf dalam mengelola administrasi secara sistematis. Dengan demikian, kegiatan ini memberikan dampak positif terhadap peningkatan efektivitas tata kelola lembaga serta mendukung transparansi dan akuntabilitas Yayasan Ahsan Syamil.

Abstract

Retorika merupakan seni atau teknik penggunaan bahasa yang bertujuan untuk mempengaruhi pendengar atau masyarakat. Dalam konteks debat politik, retorika menjadi salah satu alat utama yang digunakan untuk menyampaikan visi, misi, dan argumen-argumen pendukung calon presiden dan calon wakil presiden. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk 1). Untuk mengetahui retorika yang digunakan oleh ketiga pasangan calon presiden dan calon wakil presiden dalam debat capres cawapres 2024, dan membandingkan dengan gaya komunikasi dan teknik retorika dalam memperoleh dukungan publik. 2). Untuk mengetahui dampak dari retorika yang digunakan ketiga pasangan calon presiden dan calon wakil presiden 2024 terhadap persepsi publik dan preferensi audiens selama debat. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif, dengan teknik pengambilan data berupa menyimak dan mencatat. Penelitian ini akan mengidentifikasi gaya komunikasi, argumentasi, dan teknik retorika yang digunakan oleh ketiga paslon dalam memperoleh dukungan publik. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa, 1). Retorika yang digunakan oleh Paslon pertama, yaitu Anies Baswedan dan Muhaimin Iskandar, memiliki retorika yang fokus pada perubahan dan reformasi. Paslon kedua, Prabowo Subianto dan Gibran Rakabuming Raka, memiliki retorika yang lebih fokus pada stabilitas dan keamanan. Paslon ketiga, Ganjar Pranowo dan Mahfud MD, memiliki retorika yang lebih berfokus pada inovasi dan kemajuan teknologi. 2). Dampak dari retorika yang digunakan oleh setiap pasangan calon memiliki dampak signifikan dalam membentuk opini publik, dengan variasi dalam efektivitas bergantung pada faktor-faktor seperti kejelasan pesan, karisma penyampaian, dan relevansi isu yang diangkat.

Abstract

Sektor pendidikan telah merujuk pada pendekatan Internet of Things di abad ke-21. Faktanya, guru berusaha mengelola dan mengintegrasikan penggunaan teknologi ke dalam pengetahuan pedagogis dan konten di kelas. Pengabdian ini mencoba memaparkan penilaian self-rating guru dalam menerapkan teknologi dalam proses pengajaran mereka untuk meningkatkan kompetensi konten dan pedagogik mereka agar lebih berkembang. Sebanyak 25 orang guru di SMAN 3 Padang Panjang telah mengisi kuesioner TPACK yang diadaptasi dari Schmidt (2009) untuk mengetahui pengetahuan mereka di bidang teknologi, pedagogik, dan konten. Pendekatan deskripsi data qualitative digunakan untuk menganalisis data angket scoring menggunakan likert scale 1-4. Terlihat bahwa skala penilaian diri guru pada TPACK berkembang dengan baik. Kemudian, tersirat bahwa mereka tidak dapat mengembangkan konten dan pedagogi tanpa teknologi. Dengan demikian, teknologi menjadi faktor penting untuk mendukung pedagogi dan pengetahuan konten dalam pembelajaran abad 21.

Abstract

This article discusses the analysis of slang phonology in social media application "X", a social media application that is often used by some people to write and post tweets using slang varieties. This research aims (1) to find out the variety of slang used by the community in the "X" application; (2) to find out the phonological process of slang that occurs in the "X" application; (3) to find out the factors that influence the use of slang. This research uses descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques using observation and screenshots. This research has the result that many people use slang in posts on the X application. Phonological changes in slang found in the form of removal of vowels and consonants and changes in the sound of a phoneme. There are 2 factors that make people use slang, namely internal factors and external factors.
