Abstract

Abstract

This research study aims to investigate the strategies employed by English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners to overcome speaking anxiety in the classroom. Speaking anxiety is a significant challenge faced by EFL learners, hindering their development of fluency and confidence in speaking. However, there is limited understanding of the specific strategies used by EFL learners to cope with and overcome this anxiety in the classroom context. This study adopts a qualitative research design, utilizing interviews and observations to gather in-depth data from EFL learners. The findings reveal a range of strategies employed by participants, including cognitive strategies (positive self-talk, visualization, and reframing anxious thoughts), preparation and practice, a supportive learning environment, gradual exposure and desensitization, and emotional regulation techniques. These strategies contribute to the effective management of speaking anxiety and the promotion of speaking proficiency among EFL learners. The insights from this study provide valuable implications for educators and practitioners, enabling the development of targeted interventions and instructional approaches to support EFL learners in managing their anxiety and enhancing their speaking skills. By addressing speaking anxiety effectively, language teaching and learning practices in the EFL context can be improved, fostering a positive and inclusive environment for EFL learners to develop their speaking abilities with confidence.

Abstract

Food safety is an important issue in Indonesia that is often associated with cases of food poisoning, one of which is due to the use of banned Food Additives (BTP) such as formalin. The people of Tanjungpinang City consume a lot of processed chicken meat, such as Hainanese chicken rice, so it is important to ensure its quality and safety. This study aims to identify the organoleptic physical quality of chicken meat and detect the presence of formalin in Hainanese chicken rice. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with an observational approach. The study population included all Hainanese chicken rice traders in Tanjungpinang City as many as 51 people, and all were sampled (total sampling). The physical examination of chicken meat was conducted organoleptically, while the formalin content test used potassium permanganate solution (KMnO₄). Results showed that formalin-positive chicken meat is characterized by its off-white color, pungent odor, and chewy texture. Of the 51 samples tested, 11 showed positive results for formalin, indicated by a change in color to cloudy yellow or brown. Meanwhile, negative samples showed a pink color with no significant color change. These findings emphasize the importance of monitoring the use of formaldehyde in ready-to-eat food.

Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore students' perceptions of the use of Character AI in improving English speaking skills and to identify the limitations or problems encountered by students when practicing speaking with this technology. This study used a qualitative descriptive method conducted in the English Education Study Program at the Prima Bangsa Institute in Cirebon. The participants were eighth-semester students who had used Character AI. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and speaking test. The results of the study show that students have a positive perception of the use of Character AI because it helps improve fluency, pronunciation, and confidence, while also providing more opportunities for practice. However, there are also problems such as technical issues, limited response accuracy, and a lack of natural communication nuances compared to direct interaction. In conclusion, this study confirms that Character AI has great potential as an innovative learning medium for improving speaking skills.
