Abstract

Anemia is a non-communicable disease that is one of the main causes of insufficient iron reserves or a component that forms red blood cells or hemoglobin (Hb). One factor suspected to influence anemia is the duration of menstruation. This study aims to determine the relationship between the duration of menstruation and hemoglobin levels in female students of the Faculty of Medicine at Palangka Raya University from the 2020, 2021, and 2022 cohorts in the year 2023. The study was conducted on 74 female students selected through random sampling. Menstrual duration data were collected online in the form of a Google Form, and Hb level data were obtained directly from the Hb Test Meter MHD-1. This research is an Analytical Observational study with a Cross-Sectional approach that will be analyzed using the Spearman test. Respondents were aged 18-22 years, and out of 74 respondents, 72 respondents (97.3%) had a normal menstrual duration, while 2 respondents (2.7%) had an abnormal menstrual duration. In the examination of Hb levels, 46 respondents (62.2%) did not have anemia, while 28 respondents (37.8%) had anemia. Based on the results of the Spearman test, a p-value of 0.724 (p>0.05) was obtained, indicating that the hypothesis is rejected, and there is no relationship between the duration of menstruation and hemoglobin levels.

Abstract

Pneumonia can be defined as a condition when a microorganism triggers inflammation of the lung parenchyma. The bronchioles and alveoli will be filled with inflammatory leukocyte exudate and fluid, causing respiratory difficulties and symptoms such as coughing, dyspnea, chest pain, and shock in severe cases. Pneumonia infections caused by bacteria can be treated with antibiotics. Bacterial patterns and sensitivity test results available at the hospital are used as a guide in selecting empiric therapy given to patients. Diagnostic limitations in differentiating viral and bacterial pathogens in pneumonia have led to increased use of antibiotics and contributed to the growth of antibiotic resistance. This research aims to determine the rationality of antibiotic use in pneumonia patients' resistance at RSUD dr.Doris Sylvanus Palangka Raya in 2022. A descriptive observational approach using a cross-sectional method was used to examine the medical records of pneumonia patients. Antibiotics commonly used by patients diagnosed with pneumonia at RSUD dr.Doris Sylvanus Palangka Raya in 2022 is Moxifloxacin with 153 patients (22.53%), then Levofloxacin with 143 patients (21.06%), and Ceftriaxone with 137 patients (20.18%). The total defined daily dose/100 days of antibiotics for pneumonia patients is 88.85 and according to the Gyssens criteria, the use of antibiotics is 82.62% rational.

Abstract

It is very important for every individual, especially adolescents, to acquire knowledge about reproductive health. The general public still considers issues of reproductive health taboo, particularly concerning personal hygiene during menstruation. This results in a lack of knowledge and attitude regarding proper personal hygiene during menstruation. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitude with personal hygiene behavior during menstruation among adolescent girls at SMP Negeri 1 Palangka Raya. This research is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The sample used consisted of 91 students from grades VII, VIII, and IX at SMP Negeri 1 Palangka Raya. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using the spearman correlation test. The research results showed that (p=0.000; r=0.624) and attitude (p=0.003; r=0.309) are associated with personal hygiene behavior during menstruation in adolescent girls. The strength of the relationship is considered strong between the level of knowledge and personal hygiene behavior, but the strength of the relationship is weak between attitude and personal hygiene behavior. The conclusion of the study is that there is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and attitude towards personal hygiene behavior during menstruation in adolescent girls at SMP Negeri 1 Palangka Raya.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) often causes bleeding, increasing disease severity and mortality risk due to inadequate oxygen supply influenced by thrombocytopenia, elevated hematocrit, and hemoglobin levels. DHF severity is classified into four stages: fever and plasma leakage (stage 1), spontaneous bleeding (stage 2), circulatory failure (stage 3), and severe shock (stage 4). This study examines the relationship between hemoglobin levels, hematocrit values, and platelet counts with DHF severity in 51 pediatric inpatients at dr. Doris Sylvanus General Hospital, Palangka Raya, from January to December 2023. Using a cross-sectional design and simple random sampling, data from medical records were analyzed. Normality tests revealed significant correlations between hematocrit values and platelet counts with DHF severity, while hemoglobin levels showed no significant correlation. These findings highlight the importance of hematocrit and platelet monitoring in DHF management
