Abstract

Teenager is a transition period from childhood to young adulthood. Teenager girls aged 13-15 years are more risky of suffering anemia than boys, because their early menstrual cycles and follow inappropriate diet patterns. Anemia can cause disruption of oxygen supply, without sufficient oxygen supply brain cells cannot develop and carry out optimal activities, which can thwart cognitive function in teenager.. Therefore, this study aims to examine the relationship between hemoglobin levels and the cognitive function of junior high school students. This cross sectional research was done at SMP Negeri 6 Palangka Raya in October 2023 with 156 subjects sample of size. It is found the average Hb level is 12.8 with 1.4 standard deviation. The lowest score of the Moca-Ina score is 13 and the highest score is 29. After conducting bivariate statistical analysis with Spearman correlation, it is found that there is an insignificant relationship between Hb levels and cognitive function. p value=0.226. This research shows that there is no statistically significant relationship between Hb levels and cognitive function.

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is a health problem that affects the human respiratory system. This study aims to determine the relationship between Basic Immunization Status and Birth Weight with the incidence of ARI in toddlers in the work area of UPT Puskesmas Kurun, Gunung Mas Regency July-September 2023. This study used a type of non-experimental research: Observational analytic, with case control method, with Chi Square statistical test, considering the significance value (p), Odds Ratio (OR), and Confidence Interval (CI) value of 95% or α = 0.05. The results of the Chi square test showed that there was a significant relationship between immunization status and the incidence of ARI among children under five (p-value 0.032). The results of the OR calculation showed that respondents with incomplete basic immunization status were 4,000 times more likely to experience ARI than those with a complete immunization history (95% CI = 1,250-12,804). Chi square test results showed there was a significant relationship between birth weight and the incidence of ARI among children under five (p-value 0.046). The results of the OR calculation showed that respondents with a history of LBW were 4.043 times more likely to experience ARI than those without LBW (95% CI = 1.154-14.164). There is a relationship between basic immunization status and birth weight with the incidence of ARI in toddlers in the working area of UPT Puskesmas Kurun, Gunung Mas Regency.

Abstract

Background: Cirrhosis is the final stage of liver disease characterized by fibrosis and irreversible nodule formation due to chronic inflammation. The most common liver cirrhosis complication is ascites, where pathological fluid accumulates in the peritoneal cavity. In cirrhosis, lymphocytes infiltrate the liver and contribute to stellate cell activation, differentiation, and the fibrogenic response. Many recent studies have not studied a relationship between the absolute lymphocyte count and ascites in liver cirrhosis. Therefore, it is important to investigate the relationship between lymphocytes and ascites in liver cirrhosis.Method: This is an observational study with a cross-sectional design study. Held in August–October 2022 at Dr. Doris Sylvanus Hospital's Medical Record Installation. 64 samples were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Meanwhile, absolute lymphocyte count were measured from the patient's blood tests or by calculation. Ascites were diagnosed by physical examination and radiology. The relationship between absolute lymphocyte count and ascites was analyzed using the chi-square test, with the results considered statistically significant when the p-value 0.05.Result: The medical records from April 2019 to April 2022, there were 64 samples, of which 15 and 49 were without and with ascites. Based on the chi-square test results, there was a significant relationship between absolute lymphocyte count and the incidence of ascites, with p = 0.02.Conclusion: This study concluded that there is a relationship between absolute lymphocyte count and ascites in patients with liver cirrhosis, where absolute lymphocyte count tends to decrease.

Abstract

Cholesterol can be attacked by CCl4 by increasing lipid peroxidation, where CCl4 causes an increase in acetate transport into the liver, resulting in an increase in substrate (acetate) which causes cholesterol synthesis to also increase. Based on previous research, the kalakai plant (Stenochlaena palustris (Burm.F) Bedd) has good antioxidants to ward off free radicals. Objective: To determine the potential of kalakai leaf infusion to prevent the increase in total cholesterol levels induced by CCl4. Method: True experimental research with a post test only control group design, using 24 white male Wistar rats weighing 200-250 g, divided into three treatment groups and a negative (-) group induced by CCl4. Treatment groups I, II, II were given kalakai leaf infusion at a dose of 300 mg/kgBW, 400 mg/kgBW, 500 mg/kgBW. This research was conducted for 15 days. Research Results: In the normality and homogeneity test, the sig>0.05 value was obtained, so it can be concluded that the data is normally and homogeneously distributed. Then the data can be continued for Oneway ANOVA hypothesis testing, and a value of sig>0.05 is obtained. Based on the research results, there was no effect from the kalakai leaf infusion and the hypothesis was rejected.

Abstract

The liver plays a crucial role in the body, including protein synthesis, bile secretion, metabolism, and xenobiotic excretion, making it susceptible to damage from exposure to toxic substances. Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) is a free radical known to cause liver injury. Abundant in Kalimantan, kelakai contains flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids, and tannins, suggesting its metabolites may have hepatoprotective potential. This study aimed to assess the antioxidant content of kelakai leaf infusion for potential protection CCl4-induced liver damage. Kelakai leaves (Stenochlaena palustris (Burm.F) Bedd). were infused at a 20% concentration, then divided into three different doses: P1 (300 mg/kgBW), P2 (400 mg/kgBW) and P3 (5—mg/kgBW). The 14-day study evaluated whether kelakai leaf infusion could prevent the elevation of AST dan ALT enzyme ativities. The results indicated increased levels of AST dab AKT enzymes in each treatment group. Though the statistical analisis showed non-significant differences.
