Abstract

The rise of online learning during the pandemic era has changed the educational field. Through e-learning, learning is no longer limited by space and time. In response to significant demand, many free online learning platforms emerge in supporting teaching and learning in the virtual classroom. Realizing this phenomenon and based on the needs of the students, the researchers conducted a study aimed at enhancing students’ access to learning medical vocabulary materials through a web-based application, namely Wix-Site.  The research design was RD, with five steps or stages namely need analysis, studying recent theories, developing the product, validating the product to experts, and field testing the product. The subject in this study was medical records students in the first semester of the 2020/2021 academic year. The data collection method was implemented by distributing questionnaires to the students and then analyzed quantitatively. The finding of this research indicated that the implementation of the Wix-site as a means to facilitate students’ access to learning English medical vocabulary was considered effective

Abstract

Code-switching is a common linguistic phenomenon that occurs because of the need for two or more languages when communicating directly in general or specific expressions in the world’s multilingual society. The research aimed to find out and to describe code-switching in the frequently used English vocabularies among college students of non-native speaker.  The research used qualitative focuses on phenomenological research. The research involved the first until third-year students of the English Language Education Department of STKIP PGRI Trenggalek in the 2021/2022 academic year as the subject. The research instruments were questionnaires and documentation was analyzed using Likert scale and qualitative descriptive way. Research findings show students mostly agree with the use of code-switching in their daily communication and their social media such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. From 95 vocabularies presented in the questionnaire, 85 vocabularies are the most frequently used in students’ daily communication. Moreover, given the findings, discussions, and conclusion elaborated above, it is suggested for college students, lecturers, college and next researchers may find benefits in this research.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to develop A Thematic Integrated English Vocabulary Glossary for EYL In Trenggalek as a book/guideline for English language learning based on the 2013 curriculum of PAUD at PAUD level. This research uses R&D research design, a research design aimed at developing educational products, such as curriculum, syllabus, books, instructional media, etc. The B class student of BA Aisyiyah Suruh in 2018/2019 academic year consist of 12 students; 5 students of female and 7 students of male students. The researcher used questionnaire and interview as instrument of the research. The data obtained from questionnaires are analyzed quantitatively, while interview data is analyzed qualitatively. The products have been developed based on the needs of students, teachers, and parents, studying theory of R&D, studying theory of thematic learning, studying theory of vocabulary, studying theory of glossary and studying theory of EYL. The product has been developed through five steps of development. Based on the result of students' needs, its score was 78%, then student parents score was 774, and the result of teacher interviews showed that the teachers needed this product. It shows that all respondents agree that they need this product as a book/guideline in thematic English learning complying with the 2013 curriculum of PAUD. Meanwhile, the result of field testing the product of the students showed a percentage of 92%, 785 scores of students’ parents’ feedback, and positive responses to the teacher’s interviews. It indicates that the product of this research results is feasible to be used as a book/guideline for English language learning based on the 2013 curriculum of PAUD at PAUD level.

Abstract

Teaching and learning is an interaction between teachers and students, which is the teacher provides explanations or knowledge to students, while students do something according to the instructions given by the teacher. The research was aimed to find out and describe the English Teachers of Senior High School teaching activities in Trenggalek during the covid-19 pandemic. The research used qualitative focusing on phenomenological research. The research involved the English teachers of Senior High School in Trenggalek as a subject. The research instruments are questionnaires that were analysed using Likert scale and qualitative descriptive way. Research findings show English teacher teaching activities, it shows that English teachers continue to carry out their obligations to teach students during the Covid-19 pandemic, despite the many obstacles they face. They utilize technology-based learning media to support the teaching-learning process during the Covid-19 pandemic. Moreover, given the findings, discussions, and conclusion elaborated above, it is suggested for the government, schools, and next researchers may find benefits of this research.

Abstract

A scientific approach is a learning process that is designed in such a way that students actively construct concepts, laws, or principles. Meanwhile, a STEAM approach is an integrated approach that combines science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics as a means of developing student skills in the 21st century. The research aims to investigate and describe the crucial changes from the scientific approach in the 2013 curriculum to the STEAM approach in the Merdeka Curriculum. The research used is qualitative and focuses on documentary studies. The research instrument used observational field notes sourced from literature such as books, scientific journals, and reference books. The data were analyzed in a qualitatively descriptive way. The research Findings showed that there are several crucial changes from the scientific approach in the 2013 curriculum to the STEAM approach in the Merdeka Curriculum, namely in terms of objectives, principles, and learning stages.

Abstract

Kampus Mengajar is a program that offers college students the opportunity to engage in off-campus learning for a duration of one semester. As part of this program, students become teaching partners, contributing to innovative and creative strategies and models in targeted educational units. The primary focus is on enhancing students' literacy and numeracy skills within the designated schools. The research's objective was to uncover and describe the perspectives of English college students who participated in the Kampus Mengajar program. Employing a qualitative research approach, the study centered around phenomenological studies. Data analysis was conducted using the triangulation theory and the likert scale. The study's subject pool consisted of 20 English college students enrolled in the Kampus Mengajar program. Validation of the research instrument was achieved through Pearson Correlation and Cronbach's Alpha. Research findings underscored that English college students attending elementary schools expressed strong agreement with the Kampus Mengajar program. Similarly, participants from the junior high school level also conveyed their agreement with the program. Moreover, the study identified several issues faced by English college students upon joining the national Kampus Mengajar program

Abstract

Students of the eighth basic level must have an A1 level. After developing their speaking skills, a speaking assessment needs to be given to students in the class to know how good their speaking skills are. This research aimed to compare the gamified and non-gamified speaking assessments to the speaking scores of students. This research used an experimental design with a quantitative approach. The participants of this research were the students of STKIP PGRI Trenggalek English Language Learning Students chosen by purposive sampling technique. The instrument of this research used pre and post-test to determine the increase and difference between the two groups. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS software. The results showed that when the students’ speaking skill was assessed utilizing gamified speaking assessment, it was easier for students to increase their score. This research result could provide a contribution to the basic literature on utilizing gamified speaking assessments to motivate students. Thus, they can enhance their speaking skill, leading to an increased speaking score.

Abstract

The research is intended to apply local wisdom story in reading learning. Local wisdom nowadays is one of recommended material to teach many subjects such as in reading subject. The research was conducted for third semester students of English Language Education Study Program of STKIP PGRI Trenggalek who were joining Extensive Reading on Fiction. Local wisdom story was used as material in learning. Qualitative research was used in the research. The students were assigned to comprehend the local wisdom story and analyzed it based on several components, such as the point of view, character’s traits, the role of each character and character based on the function and types. To know the students’ responses, questionnaire about the implementation of local wisdom story was distributed. The result of questionnaire showed that the student gave good and positive responses about the implementation of local wisdom story in learning Extensive Reading on Fiction class. They stated that the story given was interesting and attracted them to analyze some components of it.
