Abstract

Abstract

Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi is the main foundation for universities in Indonesia in carrying out their functions and responsibilities. One of the activities that is part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education is Community Service (CS). PkM activities have the aim of improving the welfare of the community by providing solutions to various problems that exist in the community. One solution that can be provided is to provide training to the community with the aim of increasing knowledge, skills or competencies of human resources (HR).  One of the important communities to improve competence is school students, especially vocational high schools (VHS) majoring in medical laboratory technology (MLT). This activity is important so that the graduates produced are in accordance with the needs of the world of work such as hospitals, clinics and research institutions. This activity was given to students majoring in medical laboratory technology, VHS Yarsi Medika Tangerang. The topic raised in this activity is training in the identification of enterobacteriaceae using the Enterosystem 24R kit. The data in this activity was obtained with a Quiz instrument (Pre-Test and Test) using Google Form.  The results obtained from PkM activities show that there is an increase in student knowledge related to PkM material by 35%.

Abstract

Batok Village faces challenges in emergency health services, especially related to respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest due to hypoxia. The low understanding of posyandu cadres on first aid techniques such as Hands-Only Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HO-CPR) and oxygen therapy is the main issue in thi Community Service (PkM) activity. The activity was carried out with a service-learning approach, involving lecturers and students of Universitas Pelita Harapan in training cadres from 12 posyandu. The method used was pre-experimental with a pre-test and post-test design to measure the effectiveness of the training. The evaluation results showed an increase in the average knowledge of participants from 62.46% to 77.3%, with a significant increase in the technical aspects of CPR. Although there was a decrease in some aspects, this activity succeeded in improving cadres’ competence in emergency management. This program is expected to strengthen community preparedness in dealing with cardiac arrest and hypoxia cases, and become a sustainable education model for village communities.

Abstract

This study aims to see the antibacterial activity of ethanol extracts of garlic and turmeric in single and combination against Propionibacterium acnes. This type of research is an experimental study, which involves testing the antibacterial activity of ethanol extracts of garlic and turmeric, both singly and in combination, against Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. The research process included extraction, antibacterial activity testing using the pitting method, and data analysis to see significant differences between treatment groups. Garlic bulbs and turmeric rhizomes were macerated with 70% ethanol solvent and tested for antibacterial activity on each of the ethanol extracts of garlic (5%; 7.5%; 10%) and turmeric (2.5%; 5%; 7.5%) as well as the concentration of Garlic:Turmeric Extract Combination (5%:2.5%; 7.5%:2.5%; 5%:5%; 7.5%:5%). The results showed that (1) the results of antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of garlic were 8.20 ± 0.08; 9 ± 0.26; 10.43 ± 0.25 mm (included in the moderate category); (2) the results of antibacterial activity of turmeric extract were 3.19 ± 0.23; 3.56 ± 0.35; 4.43 ± 0.52 mm (included in the weak category), respectively; (3) the results of antibacterial activity on the combination of extracts 2.86 ± 0.72; 3.64 ± 0.08; 4.42 ± 0.16; 5.31 ± 0.76 mm (included in the weak category); (4) the results of data analysis obtained are that there are significant differences in antibacterial activity between treatment groups.Â
