Abstract

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an attempt to restore spontaneous circulation through high-quality uninterrupted chest compressions combined with respiratory support. A 2010 study by the American Heart Association (AHA) reported that adults who received compression-only CPR from a person survived better than those who did not receive any type of CPR. Other studies have also shown that the survival rates of adults who have cardiac arrest and are helped by someone who is not a health worker are similar, both Hands-Only CPR and conventional CPR (AHA, 2017). The purpose of this PkM is to increase knowledge, and skills in helping cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest in lay people before health workers come to help the methods used are starting with registration, pre-test, heart health education, cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest education, hands-only CPR education, and ending with a demonstration of hands-only CPR and post test. In the results of the pre-test and post-test education, the mean pre-test was 64 and the mean post-test was 83. The value added after the training was around 19 points for the seminar. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that this education increased knowledge and understanding of hands-only CPR.

Abstract

Introduction: Hipertention is one of the risk factors of cardiovascular disease in elderly. The purpose of this activity is to provide education about hypertension and conduct health screening which includes height, blood pressure, weight, abdominal circumference, GDS, total cholesterol, and uric acid. Methods: The activity was carried out on March 2023 by conducting health checks, namely measuring blood pressure, height, weight, abdominal circumference, and blood sugar, cholesterol, and uric acid, as well as providing education about hypertension to 52 residents, at the Posbindu RW 05 Bencongan community hall. The level of knowledge of the participants was assessed based on the contents of the test sheet given at the time before and after  intervention. The topic of hypertension is given as it is one of the major contributing factors to cardiovascular disease. While total cholesterol and uric acid are other risk factors that cause these diseases. Results: Participants consisted of 36.5% men, 63.5% women, with the elderly category 48.1% and pre-elderly 38.4%. The results of the IMT examination were fat category 54%, male abdominal circumference (normal) 12.8%, female abdominal circumference (normal) 48.9%, hypertension 65.38%, normal blood sugar 96.07%, high total cholesterol 30.8%, male uric acid (high) 50%, female uric acid (high) 50%. Meanwhile, the participants' pre-test results averaged 52.5%, and post-test 74.1%. Conclusion:  The increase in participants' knowledge about hypertension and the increase in the value of some measurement results are expected that participants can adjust their lifestyle and diet to avoid the occurrence of cardiovascular disease.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Henti Jantung Mendadak, Hands-Only CPR, Pendidikan Kesehatan, Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat.  ABSTRACT Sudden cardiac arrest is a medical emergency that requires prompt and appropriate treatment. One of the proven effective methods is Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), particularly the hands-only CPR technique, which can be performed by the general public without formal training. This Community Service Activity (PkM) aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of the community in performing hands-only CPR to increase the survival chances of sudden cardiac arrest victims. The activity was conducted at the Santa Helena Catholic Church in Lippo Karawaci on January 12, 2025, using methods such as lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and return demonstrations. A total of 57 participants, consisting of 37% males and 63% females, attended this event. Evaluation was conducted using pre-tests and post-tests to measure the increase in knowledge. The results showed an average increase in knowledge scores from 6.03 on the pre-test to 9.14 on the post-test, with an increase of 3.11 points. This training has proven effective in enhancing participants' knowledge about sudden cardiac arrest and their skills in performing hands-only CPR. This activity also demonstrates that health education can increase community awareness and ability to provide first aid to sudden cardiac arrest victims, ultimately aiming to reduce mortality rates due to this condition. Keywords: Community Service, Hands-Only CPR, Health Education, Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Abstract

Batok Village faces challenges in emergency health services, especially related to respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest due to hypoxia. The low understanding of posyandu cadres on first aid techniques such as Hands-Only Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HO-CPR) and oxygen therapy is the main issue in thi Community Service (PkM) activity. The activity was carried out with a service-learning approach, involving lecturers and students of Universitas Pelita Harapan in training cadres from 12 posyandu. The method used was pre-experimental with a pre-test and post-test design to measure the effectiveness of the training. The evaluation results showed an increase in the average knowledge of participants from 62.46% to 77.3%, with a significant increase in the technical aspects of CPR. Although there was a decrease in some aspects, this activity succeeded in improving cadres’ competence in emergency management. This program is expected to strengthen community preparedness in dealing with cardiac arrest and hypoxia cases, and become a sustainable education model for village communities.
