Abstract

Chemistry is often perceived by students as an abstract science disconnected from their cultural heritage. In Lombok, the traditional weaving craft of Sukarara Village contains rich chemical principles, particularly in natural dyeing and mordanting processes. This study aims to investigate the relationship between students' critical thinking perceptions and their cultural literacy within the context of Sukarara’s ethno-chemistry. A quantitative correlational design was employed, involving 47 high school students. Data were collected using validated questionnaires for critical thinking (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.750) and cultural literacy (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.824), which integrated local wisdom indicators from Sukarara weaving. Data analysis using Pearson Product-Moment Correlation revealed a weak negative correlation (r = -0.249) with a significance value of 0.092 (p > 0.05). Furthermore, simple linear regression analysis confirmed that critical thinking did not significantly influence cultural literacy (t = -1.723, p = 0.092). These findings highlight a "literacy paradox," where students' general critical thinking abilities do not automatically translate into an understanding of the chemical principles embedded in their cultural heritage. The study concludes that fostering cultural literacy requires explicit pedagogical integration and specialized ethno-chemistry modules rather than relying solely on general cognitive skills.

Abstract

The importance of motivation is because motivation is the cause and supporter of human behavior so that they are willing to work hard and enthusiastically to achieve optimal results. Motivation is increasingly important in an organization or company because the leader distributes work to his staff to be done well and integrated to achieve the desired goals. The method used in this study refers to the " associative or relationship research method, namely research methods that aim to determine the relationship between two or more variables. The source of data in this study is primary data, namely from distributing questionnaires directly to respondents who became the research sample, namely employees of telecommunications companies in Indonesia, totaling 30 people. To find out what factors dominantly affect work motivation and employee performance. The analysis technique or data processing uses frequency distribution and comparison of the average number of each motivational factor to determine what factors are the most dominant on employee motivation and performance. Based on the results of research that has been carried out through questionnaires and calculated based on the average value of each factor, it is obtained that the dominant factor of work motivation and performance is a harmonious relationship between fellow staff in the company.

Abstract

Teacher performance is a critical determinant of educational quality, particularly in vocational high schools where learning outcomes are closely linked to workforce readiness. This study examines the effects of paternalistic leadership and school facilities on teacher performance by incorporating teaching enthusiasm and job satisfaction as mediating variables. Using a quantitative explanatory design, data were collected from teachers in public vocational high schools in Cilegon City, Indonesia. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was employed to analyze both direct and indirect relationships among the study variables. The results reveal that paternalistic leadership and school facilities have significant positive effects on teaching enthusiasm and job satisfaction. Furthermore, both teaching enthusiasm and job satisfaction significantly enhance teacher performance. Mediation analysis confirms that teaching enthusiasm and job satisfaction partially and sequentially mediate the relationships between paternalistic leadership, school facilities, and teacher performance. These findings underscore the importance of integrating leadership practices, adequate infrastructure, and psychological factors to improve teacher performance. This study contributes to the educational management literature by proposing a dual-mediation SEM model that explains how organizational factors translate into performance outcomes in vocational education settings.
