Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini ditujukan untuk meningkatkan pembelajaran STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) di sekolah dasar di Kabupaten Klaten melalui konsep engineering design dan eksperimen. STEM diarahkan sebagai pembelajaran terintegrasi antara beberapa bidang ilmu, terutama terkait matematika, sains (fisika, kimia, biologi dan ilmu lingkungan) serta IT (Information Technology). Pembelajaran dilakukan dengan mengenalkan beberapa teknologi yang menggunakan sumber energi angin. Kegiatan engineering design process dilakukan melalui modul dan kegiatan pembelajaran melalui: (1) memahami konteks permasalahan; (2) melakukan eksplorasi mengenai bentuk dan jenis turbin yang mampu menangkap energi angin; dan (3) melakukan eksperimen turbin angin. Modul pembelajaran dibuat tim pengabdi bersama guru. Guru memberikan pendampingan kepada peserta didik selama pelaksanaan kegiatan. Peserta didik didorong untuk menggunakan kemampuan STEM dalam eksperimen turbin angin. Pada akhir kegiatan diharapkan diperoleh luaran berupa modul pembelajaran yang mengintegrasikan pendidikan berbasis lingkungan hidup pada pembelajaran STEM

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan (1) mengetahui keaktifan siswa di kelas saat memanfaatkan aplikasi Nearpod pada siswa SMK Negeri 1 Sawit, serta (2) mengidentifikasi pengaruh penggunaan aplikasi Nearpod terhadap hasil belajar mereka. Penelitian menggunakan metode kuantitatif Kuasi-Eksperimen dengan subjek kelas XI TKRO 2 tahun ajaran 2022/2023, yang terdiri dari 18 siswa di kelas kontrol dan 18 siswa di kelas eksperimen, dipilih menggunakan simple random sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes, observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara, dengan validasi instrumen dilakukan oleh dosen, guru pengampu, dan software Microsoft Excel 2019. Analisis data menggunakan software statistik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, pertama, terdapat perbedaan keaktifan antara kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen, dengan kelas eksperimen lebih aktif dalam kategori keaktifan sedang. Kedua, hasil uji T menunjukkan nilai signifikansi (2-tailed) sebesar 0,000, yang lebih kecil dari 0,05. Hal ini membuktikan adanya perbedaan signifikan dalam peningkatan hasil belajar siswa antara pembelajaran konvensional dan penggunaan media Nearpod, sehingga H0 ditolak dan Ha diterima.

Abstract

Motivation is crucial in education, driving the learning process. Cooperative Problem-Based Learning (CPBL), an extension of Problem-Based Learning (PBL), enhances critical thinking and student motivation, especially in mechanical engineering education. However, research on CPBL’s motivational impact is limited. The MUSIC Model—comprising Empowerment, Usefulness, Success, Interest, and Caring—provides a framework to boost motivation. This study examines the synergy between CPBL and the MUSIC Model in mechanical engineering education. A mixed-method approach with a Sequential Explanatory design was used, involving students from a public university in Surakarta, Indonesia, enrolled in a sustainability-related course. Quantitative data were collected through MUSIC-based questionnaires, and qualitative data were obtained from semi-structured interviews. Descriptive statistics (SPSS) and the Miles & Huberman method analyzed the data. Results show that 60-90% of students report very high motivation across all components. The study suggests CPBL fosters motivation and develops essential 21st-century skills, preparing students for future challenges.

Abstract

In a developing country like Indonesia, where the majority of the population is working in the informal sectors, there is a need for ergonomic tool intervention, which is low cost, and easy in terms of manufacturability with locally available materials.  The rapid growth of motorcycle sales in Indonesia has stimulated the growth of motorcycle repair workshops. However, some of the non-authorized repair workshops ignore the occupational safety of the mechanics. This study aims to develop a motorcycle workbench as a tool for maintenance work to reduce musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). The present study used Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model combined with an ergonomic approach. The research subjects were 4 mechanics from one private workshop. Data was collected using interview, observation, and questionnaire techniques. The MSDs data was analyzed using Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ). The ergonomic risk factors were analyzed using Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) and Ovako Work Posture Analysis System (OWAS).  The result showed an improvement in the work posture of mechanics. The MSDs complaint decreased based on NMQ Score. Furthermore, the RULA score and OWAS score also decreased. Thus, the development of the motorcycle workbench succeeded in reducing the MSDs complaint and improving mechanics’ occupational safety.

Abstract

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for teachers includes self-development activities, scientific publications, and innovative works. Scientific publications are often an obstacle to a teacher's career. Therefore, the skill of writing a scientific paper is a competency that must be possessed by teachers. This community service aims to provide assistance and improve scientific writing skills for Vocational High School (SMK) teachers. The method used consists of a classical approach of holding workshops and individual post-workshop assistance until submitting participant articles to scientific journals. Based on the results of the program, it was found that: (1) the teachers showed high enthusiasm in participating in the program; (2) there is one participant who successfully published his article in the Indonesian Sinta indexed journals; (3) participants who are still in the process and who have already had draft articles still need individual assistance until they can publish into scientific journals. The mentoring program is still needed on an ongoing basis so that writing culture is formed as a part of the CPD program.

Abstract

Various welding positions and extended durations of welding practice sessions can contribute to Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) complaints among Vocational High School (SMK) students. MSDs encompass conditions that manifest symptoms affecting muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments, joints, cartilage, and the spinal cord. The implementation of an ergonomic welding table may assist welding operators in working on projects for prolonged periods with a reduced risk of MSDs complaints. This article reports on the community service activities conducted by the Vocational and Mechanical Engineering Education research group at Universitas Sebelas Maret in developing and implementing an ergonomic welding table at SMK Negeri 1 Purworejo. Ergonomic parameters used for reference include the Nordic Body Map (NBM), Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA), and Rapid Under Limbs Assessment (RULA). The pre and post experiment analysis indicates a decrease in NBM, REBA, and RULA scores following the implementation of the ergonomic welding table, suggesting the potential for minimizing MSDs complaints.
