Abstract

Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) is a neurological deficit condition caused by an acute focal injury of the central nervous system by cerebral infarction or intracerebral hemorrhage. CVA patients who do not reduce risk factors after the first attack have an 8.7 times higher risk of CVA recurrence. The effect of a recurrent CVA is six times greater than the risk of a first CVA in the general population of the same age and sex, and nearly half of them remain alive but are physically disabled. This case report illustrates the process of recurrent CVA and disability experienced by a 69-year-old Malay woman, a patient at a private hospital in West Kalimantan. The nursing strategy of two post-CVA physical rehabilitation exercise programs for patients during hospitalization will be explained according to the stages in nursing theory. Abstract

Covid-19 is a disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus and has become a global pandemic due to it’s rapid spread. Every citizen is required to limit mobility to prevent the spread of disease. The learning system from home is one of the government’s strategies to prevent the spread in the age group of children and adolescents. Changes in the learning system have positive and negative impacts on students. The negative impact that can arise is feelings of stress in adolescents and if not managed properly it can escalate into a state of severe anxiety to panic. SMP Budi Mulia fully applies online learning methods for students. The solution that we can offer so that students can learn effectively is education to prevent anxiety and stress. This community service aims to improve the knowledge and skills of SMP Budi Mulia students to manage the anxiety and stress. The method used is a persuasive participatory method with education and practice activities through the Zoom Cloud Meeting platform. The results that have been achieved are increasing knowledge of the concepts of anxiety and stress, identifying anxiety levels using SRQ and HAM-A instruments and increasing stress prevention skills in adolescents. This education is very important for adolescents focusing on mental health to support their physical health and quality of life.

Stunting is a condition of failure to thrive in children under five due to chronic malnutrition, especially in the first 1000 days of Life. Stunting is closely related to the growth and development of the brain and the risk of suffering from chronic diseases in adulthood. Multi-factors that caused stunting include nutrition intake, toddler health status, maternal characteristics, parity, breastfeeding history, and the environment sanitation. This study aimed to identify the factors associated with the incidences of stunting in children under five years. This study was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach. This study was conducted from April to October 2019. This study involved 220 toddlers aged 1-5 years with their mothers. Study revealed that number of children were statistically correlated with to the incidence of stunting (p-value 0.005). There were three factors associated with the incidence of stunting in children under five years of age These factors are parity, history of exclusive breastfeeding, and mother's knowledge. The parity factor or the number of children is the most related factor with the incidence of stunting in children (p-value 0.007). Mothers of toddlers must be motivated to provide adequate nutrition in accordance with the needs at the age of growth and development. Government programs to overcome stunting need to start from family planning and the quality of performance of nutrition programs, one of which is intensive nutrition education for pregnant women and mothers of toddlers.

Abstract

Psychosocial support plays an important role in improving the quality of life of cancer patients, especially through assistance by lay workers. This study aimed to explore lay workers' experiences in providing psychosocial support to cancer patients. This study used a qualitative approach with an in-depth interview method with 14 participants selected by purposive sampling. Participants were lay workers who had attended basic and advanced palliative training, as well as cancer awareness guidance, and had experience in providing palliative assistance to cancer patients for more than one year. The data collection technique used was deep interviews, which were conducted directly with participants. The data collected were thematically analysed through interview transcription, coding, pattern identification, theme review, and research report preparation. The research identified four main themes: (1) forms of psychosocial mentoring, (2) challenges in mentoring, (3) support and collaboration during mentoring, and (4) strategies and development of psychosocial mentoring. Lay workers used various approaches, including emotional presence, relaxation techniques, moral support, and education to help patients overcome anxiety, fear, and loneliness. The main challenges faced included difficulties in building patient openness, limited lay worker skills, and lack of family support. Support from health workers and collaboration with families play a role in optimizing assistance. Further training is needed to improve lay workers' skills in dealing with complex psychological problems. A more personalized, empathy-based and integrated approach can strengthen support and increase the effectiveness of psychosocial assistance.

Abstract

Caring is the core of nursing practice, reflecting a nurse's approach to expressing genuine concern for the patient. Caring behavior of nurses is a form of caretaking that facilitates patients to achieve an optimal improvement in the quality of their recovery and health. Caring is driven by the self-confidence and work motivation of an individual nurse. This study aims to explore the correlation between nurses' self-efficacy, work motivation, and the caring behavior at Military Hospital in South Jakarta. This study used a cross-sectional design to explore the relationship between the variables of self-efficacy, motivation, and caring behavior. The study population included nursing staff from both inpatient and outpatient units. A total sample size was 122 nurses and was collected through a e-questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and bivariate correlation analysis. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between self-efficacy (p value 0.001, R = 0.295) and work motivation (p value 0.012, R = 0.236) with nurses' caring behavior. The correlation coefficient showed that both self-efficacy and work motivation had a positive correlation with nurses' caring behavior. Self-efficacy and work motivation significantly influence nurses’ caring behavior, highlighting the need for interventions to enhance these factors among nursing staff to improve patient care.
